COMMANDER’S COMMENTS ReturnonInvestment.Ifyouarestillofworking-agelikeme,youconsiderthismeasurementeveryday.But,eveninyoureverydaylife,youconsiderthisaswell.WhatwillbethereturnifIinvestresourcesinsomething-resourcessuchasmoney,time,effort,emotions,etc.?AstheBoardforyourLegionPost,wehavetoevaluateROIconstantly.IfwepurchaseanewpieceofequipmentorinvestinbeautifyingtheLegion,willitreturnmorerevenue,orwillitenhancethememberexperienceenoughtohavethemstaylongerorinviteafriend?Manytimes,peoplewilldonateitemsthattheynolongerwant.WestillhavetoevaluatetheROI.Eventhoughwegotsomethingatnocost,theremaybecostinstoring,maintaining,oroperatingthis“free”item.Willthereturnofrevenueorcustomerexperienceoutweighthecosts?Tosome,thismightseemrathercold.But,theprofitsfromtheoperationsofthisPostarewhatfundourcommunity&veteranoutreach;soahealthyROIisvitaltoourmission. It’snodifferentthanwhatyouasamemberwouldthinkaboutthisPost.IfIinvestmytime,talentand/ortreasureintothisPost,whatwill Iget inreturn?Manyofourvolunteersservebecausetheyfeelacallingtohelptheveterancommunity,andgetapersonalsatisfactionfromdoingso.Somedoitforthecamaraderie.Sometowardofftheennuiofretiredlife.
