Welcome

New Temple Chambers is a Commercial, Chancery and

Construction set of Barristers’ chambers, providing

first class legal advice, drafting and advocacy.

Chambers has significant legal expertise and

knowledge in all aspects of commercial law.

Chambers provides expert legal advice, drafting and

advocacy in all aspects of commercial law including

advising on company law, partnerships, trusts,

Team

New Temple Chambers is led by the Head of

Chambers, Charles Edwards, who is a first class

Barrister, called to the English Bar in 2002 by Middle

Temple, an accredited TECBAR Adjudicator and is a full

member of the Chancery Bar Association which is an

association for Barristers undertaking commercial law

and property law work associated with the Chancery

Division of the High Court in England. Charles holds a

Master’s Degree from the University of Cambridge

and also Master’s Degree from King’s College London.

Instructing Chambers

Chambers accepts instructions from business

organisations, directors, companies, partnerships, sole

traders, limited liability partnerships, corporate

clients, international organisations, investors and

individuals. Charles is an accredited Public Access

Barrister and who accepts instructions directly under

the Public Access Scheme as well as from instructing

Solicitors. Chambers is situated in the heart of legal

Commercial Law Experience

A selection of Chambers’ previous commercial law

experience includes:

Company

Acted for and advised a company director regarding a

dispute between directors over the company’s assets.

Insolvency

Acted in a cross border insolvency matter before the

Bankruptcy and Companies Court (High Court)

involving judgment, costs issues and seeking leave to

Appeal.

Acted in insolvency and proposed winding-up petition

in the Chancery Division (Companies Court) against a

large UK public limited company.

Partnerships

Acted in a partnership dispute for a business owner in

the County Court involving ownership of two different

businesses. This matter involved disputes over the

terms of the partnership agreement, breach of

contract, loss of profits and a forensic expert

accountant’s report.

Costs

Acted in an appeal in the High Court on behalf of a

firm of solicitors regarding wasted costs.

Arbitration

Acted for an international company with regards to

Applications in the High Court (Queen’s Bench

Division) under section 9 of the Arbitration Act 1996

to stay legal proceedings commenced against the

company in the High Court. This matter involved the

oil and gas industry, international commercial law,

the validity of an arbitration agreement, breach of

contract and the jurisdiction of the High Court in

England and Wales.

Insurance

Acted for a firm of solicitors in a proposed arbitration

involving an insurance dispute involving the firm. This

matter involved material non disclosure,

interpretation of the terms and conditions of the

insurance policy and the circumstances in which the

policy holder may be denied cover by the

underwriters.

Professional Negligence

Acted in a permission to Appeal matter in the County

Court against a firm of solicitors for breach of

fiduciary duty, failure of the solicitors to account for

monies received, breach of contract and damages.
