TODAY’S WEATHER HIGH: 53 LOW: rising to 56 By FRED SWIFT Hamilton County Commissioners made their annual appoint- ments Monday. The importance of these appointed officials cannot be underesti- mated, they are the folks who are respon- sible for overseeing the operation of such institutions and agen- cies as Riverview Hos- pital, the county health department, community corrections, parks department and the airport authority. The appointees are citizens who mostly serve without pay and have expertise in the area of their service. In addition, commissioners appoint several department heads which come under their jurisdiction, and of course commission- ers' own officers for the year. Board presi- dent is now Christine Altman, and vice president is Mark Heirbrandt. Altman will also serve as chairman of the Drainage Board, and Heirbrandt will preside over the County Board of Finance. All department heads were reappointed including the county attorney, Mike Howard, administrative director Dan Ste- vens, highway director Brad Davis, Building and Grounds director Steve Wood, Human Resource director Sheena Randall, Veteran Service officer Lynn Epperson and Weights and Measures inspector Cary Woodward. But, commissioners announced Wood- ward will retire on March 31, and be replaced by Steve Negy. On the county's various boards and commissions, Alan Albright was reap- pointed to the Airport Authority, Dr. Raymond Kincaid was given a new term on the Board of Health, and Larry Roudebush retains his seat on the Park Board. On the Riverview Hospital Board of Trustees, Steve Holt and Greg Murray were reappointed to new four-year terms. And, Doris Beason, Jeff Juday and Daniel Maynard were reappointed to one-year terms on the Tax Assessment Board of Appeals. Four members of the Community Cor- rections Advisory Board were reappointed: Stephenie Gookins, Ed Offerman, Steve Dillon and Dan Stevens. Nancy Massey was named to the County Cemetery Commission replacing Herald Demaree who is retiring. He becomes an honorary member. Scott Willis was named as the county representative to the Westfield Library Board taking the place of Paul Catlin who resigned. And, Sean Fleck was reappointed as commissioner representative on the County Alcoholic Beverage Board. Commissioners make annual appointments On Tuesday, WISH-TV 8 reported Noblesville resident, Indiana Senator Luke Kenley, was taken to the hospital from his Statehouse office. WISH-TV's website indicated Kenley was alert when he left his office and walked into the hospital under his own power. Kenley is the Appropriations Committee Chairman and has served in the Senate since 1992. Kenley Kenley hospitalized The Westfield City Council approved three new developments at Monday night’s meeting. The Depot at Spring Mill Station, located near 161st Street and Spring Mill Road, was approved unanimously. The Depot project is a commercial development that was the result of years of community input and planning. Two other developments, Aurora and Scofield Farms, passed 5-2. The Aurora development is both residential and commercial, and will be located near the intersection of Grassy Branch Road and State Road 38. Scofield Farms is a housing development that will be located south of 196 th Street, between Shady Nook Road and Moontown Road. Council members also elected Jim Ake to serve as president for 2017. Westfield City Council approves developments, elects new president The city of West- field announced that that Angela Smither- man has been named the new assistant director of public works. Smitherman will assist the public works director with opera- tions and management of the department. An Indianapolis woman was killed early Sunday morning in a car accident near 96thStreet and Gray Road in Carmel
