    of thesis defences. Dominique obtained her Bachelor of Tourism Management in 2016 andcompleted her Masters of Science in Environmental Science this summer at TRU. Shecombined her interest for the environment and events by focusing her research onenvironmental sustainability of music festivals in B.C.

    Undergraduate Research Apprenticeship

    There was an overwhelming response to the call for applications for this program. We wishto thank all those who applied for this opportunity, and thank the adjudication committeewho is in the final stages of notifying successful applicants. The competition is now closed,to reopen in September 2019.

    The Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund

    Deadline: Oct. 31Value: Up to $25,000Fund is a significant philanthropic endowment established to: i) Provide targeted grants toindividual species conservation initiatives; ii) Recognize leaders in the field of speciesconservation; and iii) Elevate the importance of species in the broader conservation debate. The Fund’s reachis truly global, and its species interest is non-discriminatory. It will potentially supportprojects focused on any kind of plant, animal and fungus species, subject to the approval ofan independent evaluation committee. In addition, the Fund will recognize leaders in thefield of species conservation and scientific research to ensure their important work is giventhe attention it deserves and to elevate the importance of species in global conservationdiscourse.

Thesepartnerships are meant to respond to immediate needs and time constraints facingorganizations in non-academic sectors.     Research Training Recognition Fund

    Deadline: Oct. 15 for winter 2019 releaseThe Research Training Recognition Fund (RTRF) reflects TRU’s ongoing commitment tostudent research training. Those regular faculty receiving or currently holding multi-year Tri-Agency research grants are eligible to receive a reallocation of workload to facilitate theirdirect involvement in the enhanced research training of undergraduate and graduatestudents. Those faculty applying for Tri-Agency grants are encouraged to consult with theResearch Office about citing this fund as possible institutional support on their applications.

    Internal Research Fund

    Deadline: Jan. 15, 2019Value: $3,000 - $5,000The Internal Research Fund (IRF) is a small seed fund with the principal aim of scaffoldingfaculty development, especially in terms of tenure and promotion. Completion of an IRFproject should significantly widen the applicant’s sphere of influence in terms of his or herresearch and/or teaching. Use the Romeo portal to fill out and submit applications.

    Community-Driven Research Fund

    Deadline: Continuous intake until October 2019, up to 10 awards availableValue: $2,500. Matching Contributions of up to $2,500 in cash and/or in-kind supportis required from the community organization

    Funds are still available through the Community-Driven Research Fund, which is designedto support research that responds directly to community needs, builds researchpartnerships with community organizations in the Thompson Nicola Cariboo region,provides opportunities for students to become involved in community-based research, andhelps faculty and their community partners become more competitive for external funding.
