    XIX Commonwealth Games 2010 Delhi. One ofthe legacies of

    the event will be that it will leave behind a city much more

    beautiful and charming than it currently is. The colonial city-

    centre and Delhis main shopping area, Connaught Place, hasbeen given a new faade and is already experiencing a

    resurgence. Rajpath, the main avenue in Lutyens Delhi, is being

    rejuvenated. The citys monuments, an integral part ofthe rich

    heritage ofDelhis past, are being cleaned and revitalised.

    estimated that the 2010 Commonwealth Games is the

    most expensive Commonwealth Games ever held. As

    million, and Melbourne 2006 - approx. US$ 1.1 billion,

    developing as India is not yet developed. Ironically,

    while on the other hand is spending millions on the

    Common wealth games.

    The new terminal will give the airport acapacity of37 million passengers a year.

    The new terminal will have road accessvia a new six lane road from NH-8 andwill also have a high-speed metro line tothe city (metro line (Delhi Airport raillink) with special city check-in facilities.There will also be an integrated multi-storey carparkat the terminal.

    BATONRELAY

    The Relay was introduced at the 1958 British

    Empire andCommonwealth Games inCardiff,

    Wales. Through the 1994 Games, the Relay

    only went through England and the host

    nation. The Relay for the 1998 Games in

    Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia was the first to travel

    toothernations ofthe Commonwealth. The

    2002 Relay coveredover 100,000 kms and

    went through 23 nations.

    Similar to the Olympic Torch Relay, is a relay around

    the world heldprior to the beginning ofthe

    Commonwealth Games.

    The baton contained 71 lights on the front, representing

    the 71 member nations of the Commonwealth Games

    Federation. A video camera built into the front of the

    baton recorded continuously as the baton traveled, and a

    GPS tracker was fitted; so that the baton's location could

    be viewed live on the Commonwealth Games Website.
