Before you connect with your community,
Take the following steps:
Know exactly what you want professionally and personally
Follow a few people and organizations
After your profile is set, begin sharing resources that will add value to the people
connected to you.
Accuracy
Grammar
Spelling
Respect
Verify All Deaths
Check relevance
Give credit where credit is due
Be Tasteful
Remember your audience
Respect others
Avoid religious jokes
Avoid jokes that divide
Use humor that is inclusive
Be ready to clarify
Understand some people won’t get it. Ever.
If you want to increase the exposure of your information, make it easy on your followers
CATS Connect with two to
three people from each position you have held.
Connect with 5-10 people from your organization.
Connect with 5-10 people that are from organizations or causes you support.
Add a couple each week.
LIONS If you have your
activity hidden to connections, unhide your activity
Connect with all the “friendlies” that you have worked with
Connect with people across departments in your organization.
Import your email directory.
Look for virtual of extensions of the organizations you belong to in the “real world”
If you join a group and it is not active enough, too active, or not what you thought …LEAVE. It is better to leave than to just be a fly on the wall for years on end.
If you are a lion, you might want to change your digest of notifications to be emailed to you weekly instead of daily or real time.
