Internship Expectatio n s/ Grading Procedure To receive course credit for COM 650, the student will: 1. Complete the application on pages 3, 4, and 5; return to Dr. Keyton via [email protected] a. Consult with your advisor before deciding to take COM 650. b. After Dr. Keyton receives the application, I will contact your advisor for approval that the internship can be taken as course credit and that it fits with your plan of study. You should have already talked to your advisor about accepting an internship in your course plan before applying for COM 650. c. Dr. Keyton will provide instructions for enrolling in COM 650 by return email. You cannot enroll in COM 650. Do not contact Maya Stephenson to enroll in an internship. Do not drop courses to allow room in your schedule to take an internship. Maya Stephenson, at the instruction of Dr. Keyton, will take care of this. 2. Complete, with appropriate adjustments when needed, the agreed upon projects as outlined in the contract/learning objectives and negotiated with the internship supervisor and Dr. Keyton; 3. Adhere to the agreed upon guidelines in the contract. 4. Meet with Dr. Keyton if needed. 5. Turn semester project in on time. Extensions are not granted. 6. Complete end of semester evaluation on time. Extensions are not granted. Dr. Keyton will determine the grade for COM 650 (pass/fail) based upon the following: 1

Internship Expectatio n s/ Grading Procedure To receive course credit for COM 650, the student will:

1. Complete the application on pages 3, 4, and 5; return to Dr. Keyton via [email protected]

Portfolio Checklist

1. Updated resume indicating the skills acquired during the internship2. Completed Daily Internship Journal for each day worked3. Letter to the internship supervisor4. One of the following, appropriate to the internship tasks and organization:

• Presentation to internship sponsor illustrating completed tasks or internship products

• Portfolio of sample work completed in the internship• White paper• Research paper

The expected internship work schedule for 3 credit hours of COM 650 is (a) up to 9 hours per week if a TA or RA, or (b) up to 12 hours per week if self-funded. If you are being paid by any NCSU (teaching assistant, research assistant, hourly) or other state-affiliated agency, you can only work 9 hours per week). Your work schedule cannot interfere with the courses you take or with your teaching/research assignment if you are a TA/RA.
