● Data is gathered and sent to a gateway or hub, that retrieves information from all devices and connects them to Internet via Ethernet or GSM mobile network.

● Cloud platform to monitor, control and configure the deployed equipment.

● Offline standalone mode available.

RS-232/RS-485 over Wireless Mesh:This device acts as a bridge between the wired RS-232 or RS-485 bus of standard industrial equipment and a Wireless Mesh Network.

Allows data gathering and actuation over a wide range of industrial devices.

Main features:● 5V to 28V DC Power Supply, with

external 220/110V approved AC power supply .

● DIN Rail mounted.● Wireless radio interface, ISM band

868 / 915MHz. Also available at 2.4GHz, IEEE 802.15.4.

● Coverage range of up to 200m per hop (standard range) in real outdoor escenarios. High-power model available for increased communication range of up to 2Km per hop.

● Mesh network operation with routing protocol to increase global coverage area. Automatic multi-hop without broadcasting.

Integration highlights:Gathered information is available at any time via open API’s.

Easy network integration with other systems and IoT-M2M platforms.

The solution is composed of the following elements:

● RS-232/RS-485 to Mesh device, attached to the energy meter, and able to route data between nodes to a gateway.

● Gateway or hub with information gathering capabilities, connected to the Internet via Ethernet or GSM mobile network.

● Platform As A Service (PAaS) solution provided by Carriots, specifically designed for M2M and IoT solutions. Carriots offers a highly available cloud platform used to monitor, control and configure the wireless devices.

M2C has recently undertaken a pilot project to deploy the system in Spain. The system is currently gathering data from energy meters in power generation plants and integrates readings in the Carriots platform, where the Key Performance Indicators and any critical customer variable can be visualized.

One of the most common application scenarios for the RS-232/RS-485 to Mesh communication device is energy metering in wind and solar power plants.

Nowadays, energy metering in these facilities is performed via wired networks or Modbus to GSM converters. However, these solutions are not viable mainly because of two facts:

● The large number of energy meters deployed in the facility: up to one energy meter per windmill in the case of eolic power plants, and one energy meter per group of solar panels in the case of solar power plants.

● Reduced GSM coverage issues, often present in these kind of facilities, prevent the usage of 3G direct communication in each metering device.

M2C offers an innovative solution in Spain, based on the wireless reading of Red Eléctrica Española (REE) approved counters and the data transmission to a gateway or hub.
