Communication Skills Reflection This artifact titled Where I Stand: Developing a Personal Mission Statement is a presentation I developed as part of my duties as the Graduate Assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). In collaboration with other members of the CAS Advising staff, we have worked to develop an ongoing workshop series entitled “CAS Around Campus,” in an effort to provide students with additional support beyond one-on- one advising. Vocational discernment is something I am personally passionate about and therefore was excited for the opportunity to integrate this passion into my work in such a way. Supporting students in identifying, and being able to articulate their greatest passions, interests, and values through a person mission statement can help guide them in integrating these things into their academics, future career plans, and in all aspects of life. This presentation is inspired by an assignment that Crystal Norwood, a recent graduate of this program, and I developed in the Curriculum course. I am also grateful for the help I received from Brody Tate, a fellow student in the program

Communication Skills ReflectionThis artifact titled Where I Stand: Developing a Personal Mission Statement is a presentation I developed as part of my duties as the Graduate Assistant in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). In collaboration with other members of the CAS Advising staff, we have worked to develop an ongoing workshop series entitled CAS Around Campus, in an effort to provide students with additional support beyond one-on-one advising. I am also grateful for the help I received from Brody Tate, a fellow student in the program and current intern in our office, who shared some ideas as this was created. While only one student attended this presentation, he and I were able to fully engage in a conversation regarding discovering our why. As a soon to be graduating senior, this student is searching for ways to find meaning in his major and future career. In using the presentation to guide our conversation, we were able to engage in a meaningful conversation, drawing on the connection that we are both currently job searching. I believe this presentation experience demonstrates effective interpersonal skills. While some may have seen this presentation as a failure because of its low attendance, being able to engage with a student on a deep and meaningful level showcases a different, yet important measure of success.
