THE FUTURE OF TECHNOLOGY

In the last 10 years we have seen technology advance at an exponential rate and it is only growing faster as creators continue to look for newer technology.

In the last 10 years we have seen the introduction of:

• Smart phone

• Tablet

• Touch screen capability

• Virtual classroom

• The cloud

Technology will continue to grow at an even faster rate than it was 10 years ago and we will continue to see technology change and advance.

What once was a vision or a dream will become a reality.

AUGMENTED REALITY GLASSES

With Augmented Reality Glasses the person wearing the glasses sees the real world but has computer generated images overlaid on the users real world view.

In other words this is a wearable, hands-free computer that is controlled by your voice.

This technology will allow the user to do their day-to-day tasks and not have to be interrupted by typing in information.

The leader of this technology is Google who developed and is improving their “GOOGLE GLASSES”

Page 4: Communication Technology in 2024

THE FUTURE OF GOOGLE GLASSES The consumer will be able to:

• Navigation through the glasses

• Send messages

• Play Google music

• Take a picture of video

• Translate languages

• Search feature

• Share information through Social Media

Allows athletes:

• Keep track of heart rate and speed

• Record video of game(s)

ROGER’S DIFFUSION INNOVATIONS

Google Glasses or Augmented Reality Glasses can follow this theory based on the following:

• Relative Advantage – How is this better than using a smart phone, tablet, or PC?

• Compatibility – Is this really needed by all consumers?

• Complexity – How easy are the glasses to use and how difficult will it be to adjust to a computer generated overlay on your reality?

• Triability – This has already been tested by the Innovators and the Early Adaptors.

• Observability – The tangible results is the adoption of the Google Glasses by surgeons at Stanford University.

The Cloud is a virtual server that is available through the Internet instead of storing it onto a hard-drive.

Allows information to be stored in one area and to be synced and accessed across multiple devices.

There are already multiple applications that use The Cloud:

• Apple

• Amazon

• Microsoft

CLOUD COMPUTING

Page 8: Communication Technology in 2024

THE FUTURE OF THE CLOUD

Consumers information will be stored in one place regardless of what brand of technology is being used.

The Cloud will be come encrypted for better security.

Businesses will use their own cloud technology to decrease costs and allow them to focus on other aspects of the company.

Retailers will use The Cloud to know their consumers better and integrate their information across retail channels.

USES AND GRATIFICATION THEORY

Uses and Gratification Theory is used when talking about the future of The Cloud due to the theory talks about consumers using different types of media.

Consumers are used to storing their information into a hard-drive.

Businesses store their information into a computer operating system that links all their data together.

The Cloud is relatively new and the security features are questioned when it comes to securing data for a business.

What needs to be identified through this theory is:

• What will consumers and business obtain from using The Cloud?

• Why is The Cloud needed?

• What are the expected outcomes of using The Cloud?

• What are the positives and negatives from using The Cloud?

EDUCATION IN 2014

Today’s education is a one student fits all model.

Students attend in a classroom setting.

Books are still provided.

Desks are still used.

Tablets or PC’s are used by the students to learn on and submit assignments.

Teachers use blackboard/whiteboard to deliver content.

EDUCATION IN 2024

Virtual learning will be used.

• Pre-recorded lectures

• Videos from field experts

Teachers will be able to more individually with students to replace the one student fits all model.

Teachers will have the capability to interact with other teachers outside of their school district.

Augmented glasses to help the learning experience.

• Used for geography, history, science.

Books will no longer be used, learning material will be available via tablet.

Assignments will be turned in digitally through an assignment database or Cloud.

Students will no longer be taught how to write due to all information will be typed into a tablet.

Tests will be computerized instead of paper.

Lower education costs.

CRITICAL MASS THEORY

Critical mass theory can be used to discuss the future of education as the impact of school districts and states using advanced technology in their classroom see success and it becomes socially acceptable and incorporated by more and more school districts and states.

This would be called “collective action” due to the actions of the schools and the benefits of the students.

Using technology in education would provide universal access as they could speak to a classroom in another state or even country.

Tipping point would be where the momentum to incorporate technology into all classrooms could not be stopped.
