POSITION DESCRIPTION Position: Communications and Public Relations Officer Contract: 3 days a week with the potential of full-time after twelve months Salary: $30,000 pro-rata + superannuation Location: SolarBuddy Head Office located in Newstead, Brisbane Reports to: General Manager Commencement Date: 1 July 2020 ___ POSITION PURPOSE Reporting to the General Manager, this role will be the main copywriter for the organisation working across all areas of SolarBuddy, playing a major role in the development of key messaging for internal and external communications, writing across all mediums and responding to enquiries from the public and media outlets. This position requires an individual who is a strong and creative copywriter with outstanding interpersonal communication skills, providing timely and professional communication and public relations’ support to the organisation, proactively seeking, developing and maintaining relationships with media contacts and key stakeholders to position SolarBuddy as the authority on energy poverty. ABOUT SOLARBUDDY An Australian charity dedicated to educating and empowering the next generation to change the lives of children living in energy poverty via its innovative education, corporate and festival programs. Since launching in 2016, SolarBuddy has seen significant growth across its engagement programs and has gifted 125,000+ solar lights to children around the world. RESPONSIBLITIES - Collaborate with all areas of the organisation to identify and draft key messages for internal and external communications across specific projects, programs, campaigns, and initiatives. - Work with other team members across the areas of digital content and marketing to research, draft and edit web copy for SolarBuddy’s website and social media channels. - Assist other departments and teams within the organisation with copy writing needs for collateral, website and EDMs as needed. - Coordinate copy, edit, write, and distribute SolarBuddy’s monthly newsletter. - Develop and write clear, persuasive, and original copy for various collateral as needed. - Assist the General Manager and CEO as needed to draft organisation responses to media requests. - Work closely with other departments to draft communication plans and copy for key projects or initiatives, including community engagement materials for the organisation’s various projects. - Develop and continually monitor the organisation’s communications style guide and assist other teams to ensure all materials follow SolarBuddy’s language and style. - Adhere to budget and deadline requirements.

outlets, education / corporate / festival partners. - Work on several projects at once, sometimes under pressure and often to tight deadlines.- Undertake any other general communications duties as requested by the General Manager and CEO.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

1. Innovate and implement new ways to communicate internally and externally.2. Work effectively across all SolarBuddy’s departments and precincts to ensure key messages are communicated in a

timely manner and manner that reflects our values, character ad guiding principles.3. Develop and implement cutting-edge and effective communication strategies for SolarBuddy’s projects.4. Manage and deliver key communications outcomes such as copy for programs and social media channels.

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Tertiary qualifications in a communications or media discipline. 2. Minimum two years practical experience in a copywriting or media role (experience working within the charity or not

for profit sector is desirable but not essential).

3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.4. Proficient in Microsoft Office, media databases, EDM publishing software and social media platforms5. Proven ability to prioritise, problem solve and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
