MONTHLY COMMUNION JUNE 2013 St. Luke’s will welcome the Africa University Choir to worship on June 9. We have had a long history of supporting AU through the years. Ten years ago, St. Luke’s funded a dormitory on the AU campus. Since then, St. Luke's continues to be the greatest giving congregation in Indiana to the University. We are excited to have the choir join us for worship, fea- turing students from various African countries. As part of their U.S. tour, the choir is serving as ambassadors for the University as they lay the foundation for a successful campaign to raise funds for AU to endow a faculty chair in Agriculture and to endow several student scholarships. On June 9, we will take a special offering to help achieve this goal. We look forward to a blessed morning of worship with the Africa University Choir. Africa University Choir St. Luke's partnership with Fox Hill Elementary School has made us aware of the great need for school supplies and support services by students in the surrounding Wash- ington Township schools, not just Fox Hill. Seventy-five percent of the students in the four Washington Township elementary schools closest to St. Luke’s qualify for free or reduced lunch. That is over 2,000 students in the area surrounding the church. In an effort to address this need, St. Luke’s will be hosting a “Back to School Extravaganza” on August 4. This event will provide schools supplies, clothing, food and other services to children in need. The goal is to provide a one- stop shop where these families can find many of the items they need to get the school year off to a great start. Chil- dren get a huge boost to their self esteem when arriving at school the first day with a backpack full of supplies as opposed to being handed supplies by a counselor once they arrive. The kids in Washington Township are not supported by any of the other fundraising/school supply drives in the city. This is a large undertaking to collect schools supplies for over 2,000 students. So for our Summer Outreach project, we will "Stuff a Bus" in July! A Washington Township bus will be here to collect all the school supplies needed for the students. You can get involved by picking up a tag on Sunday morning starting June 16 (or in the church office) for one of the 2000 stu- dents who will not have a backpack to start school. If you work for a business that would like to participate, please let us know and we will bring the bus to you! Questions? Contact Buffy Perkins at [email protected] or Jamalyn Peigh Williamson at [email protected]. Stuff a Bus Summer Outreach Effort CAR WASH On the morning of Sunday, June 16 teens from our Youth Ministry will run a Car Wash at St. Luke’s to benefit the Peru Mission Trip. Teens and adult leaders will be washing cars for ANY donation. You can drive your car through a washing station OR park it in the “wash while I worship” section to have it washed while you go to the church service! We hope to see you and your wheels on June 16. 64620_monthly16:Layout 1 5/21/13 11:00 AM Page 1

May at The TrackThis summer we’re heading back to Base Camp where we’lllearn from the life of Jesus, his teachings, and his example. These are the basics: Wisdom—I need to make the wisechoice; Faith—I can trust God no matter what; Friendship—Ishould treat others the way I want to be treated. When we return to these ideas, we can begin to discover what God isdoing in us to change the world around us.

The monthly memory verse is: “And Jesus grew in wisdomand stature and in favor with God and men.” (LUKE 2:52,NIrV) When we respond to God, we will see ourselves develop in wisdom, faith and friendship.

May at the Mini-TrackThe theme for June at the Mini-Track is “Made by God.”God made everything. Everything! Pretty exciting, isn’t it?It’s that excitement, wonder and awe that we want to sharewith our preschoolers this month. Each week they will hearabout another part of creation. The memory verse is, “Godcreated the heavens and the earth.” (GENESIS 1:1)

“Take Five”A great deal of reflection and discussion among St. Luke'sChildren's Ministry team is spent on ways to better connectto the parents in our church. We want to take every oppor-tunity to not only inform you of what your children are learn-ing, but also to encourage you in your role of spiritualleaders in your homes. At the same time, we know whatbusy lives you lead and we want to be very respectful ofyour time. Therefore, we've created "Take Five," a midweekblog which will only take around five minutes to read. Theblog, delivered via email around lunchtime on Tuesdays, will be a concise reflection of how you can help your childconnect Sunday morning's virtues to what happens in theirlife the rest of the week and beyond. If you're a parent inour email database, you'll automatically begin receiving theTake Five blog.
