Community College of Baltimore County School of Applied and Information Technology Computer Information Systems Department October 22, 2006 SAIT announces this new certificate that was approved by the Maryland Higher Education Commission in February 2006. If you have been taking software application courses and have not decided on a major or you already have a Bachelor's degree and are looking to re-tool your information technology skills you may be interested in this new certificate. I have included a brochure that contains the details of this 13 credit certificate. Important to note is that Credit by Examination can be awarded for the following three courses required of the four course certificate: CINS132 Comprehensive Spreadsheets CINS134 Comprehensive Databases CINS146 Authoring Web Pages If you feel you have prior knowledge in any of these courses you should consider Credit By Examination. You can contact me for further information about Credit by Examination; the fee is one half the full course tuition . CINS132 Comprehensive Spreadsheets provides a comprehensive study of spreadsheets for professional and personal applications; using MS Excel, study spreadsheets, database and graphic features, and macro development. The course employs the integration of this package with other microcomputer packages, data security, and data integration techniques.

CINS134 Comprehensive Databases provides an introduction to databases and database management systems (DBMS) and an opportunity to design, create and modify a database using MS Access, including information retrieval by creating queries, reports and forms.

CINS146 Authoring Web Pages introduces web page design techniques using an authoring tool such as Macromedia Dreamweaver. Topics include effective use of graphics, fonts, colors, navigation tools and design techniques. Additional topics include markup language elements and an overview of web page authoring products. Upon completion, the student creates a functional template driven web site.

CINS233 Information Management for Decision Making introduces students to the multidimensional data analysis techniques of Business Intelligence in order to retrieve and present information for decision-making and problem-solving. Techniques will be applied to various industries. Technologies include Data Visualization, QBE, SQL, Report Writers, Pivot Tables, Pivot Charts, MS Office, Web Pages and Adobe Portable Documents (PDF). Students complete case projects that require them to retrieve information from various data sources and present that information in various formats.
