COMMUNITY EDUCATION CLASS SCHEDULES FALL REGISTRATION is now open The Community Education office offers a variety of after school and evening classes for children and adults of all ages. These classes were created to provide students with a positive outlet to explore their creativity, expand their knowledge and find new interests and hobbies. Community Education classes are taught by a staff of qualified instructors. Schedules for students' classes may vary from a one-day class to monthly or several week sessions. Classes such as art, dance, gymnastics, karate, piano, soccer, Snapology, Taekwondo and tennis are on-going classes that are held on a continuing basis throughout the year. In select classes a recital, exhibition or concert will be planned at the end of the school year. Early registration is encouraged since all classes have a maximum enrollment. Students will be notified of class start dates after all registration sessions and class schedules are completed. GYMNASTICS & TUMBLING Gymnastics classes offer a progressive training program emphasizing safety, solid gymnastics basics, and enjoyment. The classes are taught by Deborah Hager-Luebbert, an experienced gymnastics teacher who has coached gymnastics/tumbling in the Bryan County Community Education program for over 28 years. Weekly classes are a progressive training program emphasizing safety and building knowledge of the sport. Gymnastics training develops physical abilities, enhances gymnastic skills and promotes self­confidence in a fun and learning environment.

Training on all apparatus including beam, uneven bars, floors, vault, mini-tramp and parallel bars. Classes are for boys and girls. Ages 2 through grade 12

Tumbling specializes in perfecting floor skills. At least one year of gymnastics training required for this class unless approved by instructor. Classes for boys and girls.

All classes are one-hour with the option of more than once-per-week

TENNIS This is an introduction to tennis class, designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. It's the fast, fun way to get kids into tennis and keep them playing. The instructor is Linda Sun, a member of the Richmond Hill Area Tennis Association, where she serves as an instructor. A maximum of 10 students can be accepted for each class. These are year-long classes. Students will need a 21 , 23 or 25-inch racket, available from any sporting goods outlet or discount store. If you do not have a racket or do not know what size your child needs, the instructor will provide a sample for your child to try before you make a purchase.

PIANO Private piano lessons are offered to children and adults. Lessons are offered on a weekly basis for thirty minutes and are available for beginners as well as those who have piano experience. Minimum age requirements for enrolling in piano lessons will be determined by each instructor. Four qualified instructors will be teaching piano for the Community Education program.

Students learn the basics of guitar using simple chords and easy songs to sing. All students will need their own guitar or baritone ukulele with strings in good condition.

TAEKWONDO Taekwondo is translated into "the way of the hands and feet" and is designed to enhance balance, agility and flexibility. Courtesy, respect, perseverance, self­control and positive thinking are the foundation to achieving success in martial arts training. Bradd Flemmings has 39 years experience in martial arts instruction. Master Flemmings is a 6th degree black belt and he has additional martial arts instruction in Karate, Mudukwan, Hapkido, Jujitsu, Krav Maga (Israeli Self Defense) and Hwa Rang Do. SOCCER - BUILD BASIC SKILLS Great class for boys and g irls who want to build basic soccer skills. Coach John E. Hungerford has coached youth soccer in Richmond Hill and the greater Savannah area for 6+ years. His passion for coaching began as a teen while working as a gym assistant for the Boys and Girls Club in Fort Worth. From his youth days playing soccer, Coach Hungerford 's passion for soccer continued during his service in the United States Army, where he played in various int ramural leagues and commanders' cup tournaments. Coach Hungerford is current ly a Savannah United Academy coach, where his two oldest kids p lay. Each student should bring their own soccer ball, appropriate shoes and shin guards for t his class.

BABYSITTING & FIRST AID/CPR WORKS The focus of this course t eaches st udents to meet the basic needs of children in a care-t aking environment with a focus on safety. The training will help students develop leadership skills, start a babysitting business and learn how to communicate with parents while keeping themselves and others safe. Students will also learn child feeding and d iapering techniques. Students who successfully complete t his course will receive a certificat ion card, st arter kit and pocket ref­erence guide. This class also incorporates a Pediatric First Aid Course t hat inst ructs students on how to

deal with first aid issues to include medical emergen­cies, the use of an Epi-pen injector, injury emergen­cies, and how to handle environmental emergencies. Also covered are adult/child/and infant CPR proce­dures as well as how to react to a child or infant who is choking. The course will be taught by Linda Vaccaro, owner of CPRAED Training in Richmond Hill. She is a certified instructor with the American Heart Association and the American Health & Safety Institute. Fifteen participants can be accepted for this course, so early registration is encouraged. NOTE: Students must attend all classes in order to receive certification.

KIDS IN THE KITCHEN COOKING CLASS Help your kids learn to make informed decisions for a lifetime of health and wellness! Kids get busy in the kitchen in this engaging, hands-on healthy cooking course. Each session will focus on a special theme and each class begins with a nutrition activity, followed by a two or three recipes prepared by the students. HEALTH AND WELLNESS FOR FAMILIES Instructor Jen Shimalla's workshops will show you how to develop a healthy lifestyle which includes exercise, attitude and nutrition. Sessions 1 and 3 are designed to give parents and caregivers a better understanding of nutrition as well as the ability to express to children the importance of what we eat and how we move. The session will provide the par­ents and caregivers with tools needed to teach chil ­dren to make better choices and empower them to choose a healthy body and mind. They will be moti­vated to assist their children in becoming healthier and leaner while developing a positive attitude. Session 2 is designed for adults who want to feel younger and live longer. They will be taught to cor­rect old habits and learn new healthy living tips for feeling good. This course will be great for adults who want to maintain and improve their health. Mrs. Shimalla is certified with Dr. Sears' Wellness Institute for L.E.A.N. and Prime Time programs.

DANCE- PEMBROKE Teresa Merritt is the owner and director of Life Moves Dance Studio in Richmond Hill since 1999, with over 40 years of experience in teaching dance. Mrs. Merritt has been a resident of Bryan County since 1994. She will be offering classes in ballet, tap, hip-hop, and aero in Pembroke through the Bryan County Community Education Program. Lisa Wood will be teaching Aero, Cheer Dance, Hip Hop, Jazz and Contemporary. She began her training at a young age in upstate New York. At the age of 9, she was assisting in as many classes as her teacher would allow her. At age of 15, she started her teaching career. Once she had her own class, she knew she wanted to be a dance teach­er for the rest of her life.

DANCE - BALLET TAP & JAZZ Instructor Cheryl Brett returns to teach the ballet, tap and jazz dance program again this year. Mrs. Brett is a long-time Community Education teacher who owns a successful studio in Hinesville. She has studied and performed with numerous artists including the Pittsburgh Ballet. Ms. Brett is certified and affiliated with the Dance Makers of America, Professional Dance Teachers of America and Dance Educators of America. Classes for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students will include ballet and tap instruction. A combination ballet, tap, and jazz dance class will be offered. DRIVERS' EDUCATION FOR TEENS Georgia law requires mandatory driver education before teens can obtain their Class D license. All 16-year-olds applying for a Class D driver's license must complete an approved driver education course that includes 30-hours classroom or virtual instruction and six hours of instruction behind the wheel training with a qualified instructor. Parents who live in the Pembroke/Ellabell area must transport their students to Richmond Hill Center Education Center. Driving times will be scheduled after the first class session. All registration forms will be timed and dated to assure placement of students. A copy of the student's learner's license is required prior to the beginning the
