Rowans Hospice has been caring for

people with life-limiting illnesses in

Portsmouth and South East Hampshire

for nearly 25 years. All of our services

are provided free from discrimination

and free of charge. Thanks to

the amazing support of our local

IT WILL COST £7.5MILLION TO REFURBISH OUR HOSPICE

In 2017, the care we provide was rated

as Outstanding by the Care Quality

Commission and this is something that

we are very proud of; however the

hospice building is now showing signs of

age, particularly when contrasted with

our Living Well Centre which opened in

2016. New technologies are also now

available which can be incorporated

into the in-patient bedrooms to

enhance the patient experience by

increasing their independence and self-

control.

Hospice care is so much more than a

building, however the building remains

fundamental in the delivery of care as it

is the home of our professional teams,

in-patient ward and therapy areas

for patients, relatives, carers and the

bereaved.

Our ambitious Silver Jubilee Appeal will

create a hospice that continues to offer

a place for tranquility and sanctuary,

and will allow our care to continue and

progress for the next 25 years.

To achieve our ambitions, we need

the support of our community and

people just like you.

INTRODUCTION

Rowans Silver Jubilee Appeal aims

to raise £7.5 million to completely

renovate Rowans Hospice. The project

has been split into three phases and

embraces every aspect of the service

offering. We are taking a phased

approach to make sure that every

element of this project is completed

to the ultimate in quality and design,

whilst minimising the impact on our

patients and their families.

The first phase will transform our

in-patient experience, lightening and

brightening all bedrooms and ensuite

facilities. Quiet external patio areas for

families and friends, along with new

internal seating areas and secluded

spaces where people can relax and

take comfort from the peaceful

environment will be added.

Phase two will develop a ‘winter

garden’ where patients and families

can rest and recuperate; an indoor area

attracting natural light from above and

living plants to bring the outside in.

This new extension will also provide

dedicated therapeutic space for

children and young people when their

family is affected by significant life

changes including bereavement.

The third and final phase will include

adult bereavement services and

psychological services for patients and

family members, with a separate and

discrete entrance where people can

access therapies and support.

Can you turn one of your hobbies into a fundraising event?

Organising something that you enjoy doing will help you to keep motivated and you can be enthusiastic when you encourage others to join in.

WHEN?

It is best to avoid dates when other large events are taking place, but you could use these to your advantage by planning an event that links in with it, like a Eurovision party!

If you want families to attend, make sure the event isn’t too late on a school night.

WHY?

Make sure you tell everyone why you are raising money for our Silver Jubilee Appeal.

We support people from your community – if they don’t know about us, tell them all about the work that we do.

We can provide leaflets about our appeal that can help you explain what need to achieve and why.

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR FUNDRAISING

ADVERTISE

We have poster templates that you can

download, add information about you

event and print to make sure people

GIFT AID

If you are collecting sponsorship

money, you could raise 25p more for

every £1 you receive. If your sponsors

are tax payers, ask them to tick the

Gift Aid box and provide their address

on your sponsorship form to make the

donation go that bit further.

MATCH FUNDING

Some companies offer matched

funding so if you reach your fundraising

target, they will double it! Speak to

your employer to find out if they do.
