New Products/Services (cont.)

• Taxonomy vs. Folksonomy

• Lots and lots of SP is still on-premise

and likely staying that way for a while

as the future space for data.

• There is a time and place for SharePoint folders

• Build separate views for consumers and creators (or

consuming and creating)

• Lots of focus on compliance,

auditing and reporting

• Cloud security focus should

be on end user credentials

and vendor management.

O365 SharePoint &

Exchange

Security• Scary topic. Experts suggest expectations for AV should be reduced.

• Lots of new Devices

• SharePoint Management Tools

• Thycotic

Vendor Hall

We couldn’t help being impressed by Microsoft

• How big they are

• How international they are

• How ambitious they are

• How talented they are (or appear to be)

• Not how gender balanced they are

Reflections

Community IT clients are in many ways

ahead of the curve in cloud adoption.

Reflections

• Microsoft’s Direction

• Pace of innovation & development is rapid

• Continuous updates instead of major versions

• Azure is growing dramatically

• Emphasis on implement only what’s needed

• Lots of end user training

Reflections

Utility and adoption of newer tools like Delve and Yammer

is TBD. Microsoft is heavily invested in the Office Graph

Reflections

What to Use When• MS wants to build a cloud that meets all your needs an

incents you to use their cloud (see machine learning)

• MS isn’t prescriptive about which tool works best; there are

different ways to be productive in an MS world.

Reflections

Little takeaways

• Window Pane Rule

• Calendar syncing problems between

multiple devices plague everyone

• Publish Your Calendar in O365

• Need to check out PowerMap,

PowerQuery and PowerPivot in Excel.
