Greetings!

It’s hard to believe one third of 2013 is nearly behind us. As the Spring months continue to set in, there’s lots of adventures still to come and we’re here to help you along with them.

Last month we introduced you to our ‘Local Gas Prices’ tool which helps you to fi nd the best price of gas in your vicinity. It’ll surely come in handy for your day trips and even vacation trips. Our ‘Local Gas Prices’ tool can be accessed right from our homepage (YourCommunityInsider.com).

This month we have two special new tools for you.

The fi rst is our ‘Community Library’, which will have a completely FREE downloadable featured book each month. Every month we’ll be adding 1 more featured book to our library and you’ll be given access to download it absolutely FREE. You could fi nd this month’s featured book on a later page along with information about how to download it. The topics will range widely, but will generally be within mainstream special interests.

The second tool we’ll be introducing (starting next issue) is our ‘Expert’s Advice’ column. Speaking to a number of community members, we’ve found a lot of disconnect between residents and local businesses. Primarily, our community members would like a place where they could ask questions about topics that interest them without receiving an intrusive response.

Since we are Your Community Insider, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to answer your call and provide a fun and informa-tive column where you could ask us questions you’re interested in and we’ll go out and fi nd the answer from your local expert on the topic. So feel free to ask away! Send your questions to [email protected] and we’ll hunt down the answer for you!

Finally, if you haven’t signed up to our weekly newsletter which is full of all the events and special things to do in Morris County then you’re missing out on lots of excitement. There’s so much going on in Morris County each and every week, let us help you ‘Stay In The Loop’. Who knows... you just might fi nd one or two things you could explore that really inter-est you, then it would be totally worth it!

Signing up is simple, just go to YourCommunityInsider.com and fi nd the sign up form in the right hand column of the page. Plug in where you’d like us to send the weekly newsletter and POOF! You’re connected!

We’ll talk again in May. Have a great month everyone!

Digital Public Library of America Launchesby Elliott Harmon - creativecommons.org

Creative Commons would like to congratulate the Digital Public Library of America ( http://dp.la/ ) on its offi cial launch today. The DPLA, which has been in planning since 2010, brings together millions of digital resources from numerous libraries, archives, and museums.

From DPLA:

The Digital Public Library of America will launch a beta of its discovery por-tal and open platform at noon ET today. The portal will deliver millions of materials found in American archives, libraries, museums, and cultural her-itage institutions to students, teachers, scholars, and the public. Far more than a search engine, the portal will provide innovative ways to search and scan through its united collection of distributed resources. Special features will include a dynamic map, a timeline that allow users to visually browse by year or decade, and an app library that provides access to applica-tions and tools created by external developers using DPLA’s open data.

In January, DPLA announced that all of its metadata would be in the public domain under the CC0 Public Domain Declaration.

The Open Knowledge Foundation’s Joris Pekel applauded that announcement:

The decision to apply the CC0 Public Domain waiver to the metadata will greatly improve interoperability with Europeana, Europe’s equivalent of the DPLA. Now that more different initiatives start publishing digitised heri-tage and its metadata, interoperability becomes more and more import-ant in order to create a linked web of cultural heritage data, instead of new data silos. By both choosing the CC0 Public Domain waiver, Euro-peana and the DPLA take a great a step forward in achieving their goal.

We applaud DPLA’s commitment to open data and are excited about the launch of such an important resource.

Mystery Book ReviewBy Your Community Insider

Have you ever wondered...

Why is crunchy food so appealing? Why is it so hard to fi nd words for fl avors and smells? Why doesn’t the stomach digest itself? How much can you eat before your stomach bursts? Can constipation kill you? Did it kill Elvis?

Now your curiosity of the digestive puzzle can be quenched completely... literally.

Our April Mystery Book comes from a wildly humorous author that “push[ed] aside disgust or fear or whatever it is that so reliably defl ects mind from body” to bring you, the reader, a memorable and methodical top-to-bottom tour of the digestive system we all rely on so much.

You’ll “travel the world, meeting murderers and mad scientists, Eskimos and exorcists (who have occasionally administered holy water rectally), rabbis and terrorists—who, it turns out, for practical reasons do not conceal bombs in their digestive tracts.”

The questions explored in this book are TABOO, provocative, and gutsy. Take a ride down the alimentary canal with the unwavering curiosity that only a 5 year old could match.

--“Fans of lively writing will be delighted... boldly goes where no author has gone before, into the sciences of the taboo, the macabre, the icky, and the just plain weird... all with a perfect touch: warm, lucid, wry, sharing the unavoidable amusement without ever resort-ing to the cheap or the obvious. Yum!”

-- Steven Pinker, author of How the Mind Works and The Better Angels of Our Nature“[She] put her hand in a cow’s stomach for you, dear reader. If you don’t read [this book], then that was all for nought. Plus, you’ll miss out on the funniest book ever written about guts.”

-- Carl Zimmer, author of Evolution: Making Sense of Life and Parasite Rex“As probing as an endoscopy, [this book] is quintessential... supremely wide-ranging, endlessly curious, always surprising, and, yes, gut-wrenchingly funny.”

-- Tom Vanderbilt, author of Traffi c: Why We Drive the Way We Do (and What It Says About Us)

--“... grounded in science, but the virtuosic author rarely resists a pun, and it’s clear she revels in giving readers a thrill—even if it is a queasy one. Adventurous kids and doctors alike will appreciate this fascinating and sometimes ghastly tour of the gastrointestinal system.” (Publishers Weekly )

At the All Children’s Theater, children age 6-17 actively participate at the 12 two-week summer programs in the performing arts at air-conditioned locations through-out Morris County.

The theater camps provide participants with activities including acting, comedy, singing, dancing, scene design (painting or collage) and one, two or three public per-formances on the last evening of the camp experience. This is a great opportunity for your budding theater enthusiast!

Starting on July 8th, the Morris County Art Association is hosting a summer art program for children that include classes in drawing, painting, cartooning, print-making and sculpture.

New Designated Driver Program Promotes Safety Across Morris County by Your Community Insider

StearClear, a designated driver program provides a sober ride home for both you and your vehicle after you’ve had a few drinks on your night out.

After being successfully introduced to Morristown in January, StearClearis expanding its lifesaving services to the entire Morris County area, Joshua Heffl er, StearClear of Morristown franchise owner said.

“Everyone involved in StearClear shares a common concern about the health and safety of our communities,” Heffl er said to the source. “We are hopeful that through this busi-ness venture we can help reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road and save lives.”

To use the StearClear service, all you need to do is schedule a ride by either calling (862) 345-6340 or logging onto your StearClear smart phone app. StearClear dispatches a drive team of two people to your location. One drives you home in your car while the other follows behind to return the driver to the next assignment.

The mileage and cost is calculated so you know how much will be charged. StearClear services costs $25 per pickup with an addition $2.65 per mile.

“Through our StearClear service, you can schedule a driver and a ride home for you and your vehicle either before…or while… you are out,” said Stephen Chassen, vice presi-dent of sales for StearClear of Morristown. “Our service is unlike a taxi service in that you are driven home in your own vehicle so you don’t have the headache and inconve-nience of going back the next day to get your car.”

To access the StearClear service, download the free application located direct at www.Stearclear.com and click on the App Store or Google Play icon.

Or call (862) 345-6340 for more information or to schedule your ride today.

beneath us.'
