This guide reviews the basic elements and structure associated with the CRCDS Online Classroom, also
referred to as Moodle. Not all classes have an online component your professor will inform your if you
will be utilizing this site as a resource. Site registration and class enrollment for CRCDS and SCL students
is taken care of by the New Models group.
For blended learning classes students will have access to the online classroom for their specific courses
no later than the first day of classes and/or the first day the access is needed. For 100% online classes
access will be provided the week prior so you can review the syllabus and course work prior to the start
of class.
LogginginFrom you internet browser visit http://learn.crcds.edu/
Click on the “Log in” in the upper right of the page.
On the left half of the page enter your Username and Password.
o New CRCDS Online Classroom users will be assigned a username and password
o Standard usernames will be based on your fist initial and full last name. (ex John Smith =
jsmith) Unless otherwise notified via email.
o Default passwords are set as changeme and you will be promoted to change it upon
your first login.
Log in information will be provided as follows:
o Blended Learning format (Online and in‐class) – Monday prior to the first day of classes
o Online students – Frist day of the semester
Accessing“MyCourses”&CourseOverview
Once logged in you’ll see your enrolled courses in two places
o At the top of the page under <My Courses>. (Fig. 1)
o On the main page directly under the three link blocks, under the “My Courses” heading.

Within the online course you should know the following:
o Left side of the page is each week of the course, and access to the syllabus.
o Right side of the page is the specific “tasks” for the selected week.

Click on the discussion forum title next to the icon. (ex. Weekly Discussion (Aug 29))
Read over the specific instructions noted on the page, this area is specific to each class.
To enter the forum click on “Weekly Reflection” under the discussion header.

o The question from the professor is what you are answering within a Q&A forum, this
could and open‐ended question or a reflection on the readings for the week.
o When you’re read to respond click “Reply”.
Discussion posts are graded as part of class participation.
Note: You won’t be able to see other students posts until you reply with your own post & the 15 minute
edit period* has past.
*After you submit a post you have 15 minutes where you can go back and modify what you wrote, after
the 15 minutes the post is permanent.
After you click reply, the “Text Editor” will open, you can either type directly in this window or
copy and paste from Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
Note: Moodle forums don’t have a built‐in spell checker so typing out the posts in Word or Google
Docs is recommended.
After you’ve completed your post click “Post to Forum”.
Reminder: After you submit a post you have 15 minutes where you can go back and modify what
you wrote, after the 15 minutes the post is permanent.
PastingfromWord
Click on the “Paste Special” icon in the top bar of the text editor.
Paste your text into the box on the left side and choose what program your text came from.
Look over the preview on the right side to be sure your formatting was copied correctly and
then click the “Paste” button.
Now you’re back at the main Text Editor for the forum. When you’re ready you can click “Post to
Forum” to complete your post.
