with the Pledge of Allegiance following.

Minutes Approval: Emily moved to approve the July 7

Regular Meeting Minutes after one spelling correction

was made. Mitch supported. Carried (3-0).

Treasurer’s Report: $707.50 was received from the

State of Minnesota (Township Aid) and 8,634.62 was

transferred from the Building Fund to Fire Fund. Total

disbursements: $32,656.48. Russ accepted the report

gravel is being pushed into the ditches. Russ will call

our Commissioner to discuss the matter.

Old Business: Commissioner Tom Rukavina has

assured us that the steel has been purchased by St.

Louis County for replacement of Kaunonen Lake Road

Bridge. Mitch attempted to contact Mr. Rukavina but

hasn’t heard back from him yet. One of the visitors

commented that the road grader has broken up some of

the cement on the bridge.

The replacement of the cemetery sign was tabled.

Mitch purchased a door for the town hall to replace the

old interior door leading to the stairway and will install

it soon.

New Business: Sandy reported that training has been

completed for the Election Judges, the AutoMark will

be tested on Monday and the Primary Election will

take place on August 9. The filing period began on

August 2 and ends August 16 at 5 p.m. One town

board supervisor and the treasurer seat are open.

Tables and chairs will be borrowed by Russ on August

13.

A written price quote of $0.959 was received from

Lakes Gas for propane for the 2016-2017 heating

season. It was approved at the July meeting.

Cemetery vandalism was reported recently to the

Clerk. Cemeteries should be respected and vandalism

will not be tolerated. The sheriff was notified and

assured Sandy that patrolling will be done frequently.

Correspondence: All mail was read and filed.

Adjournment: Emily moved to close the meeting at

7:50 p.m. and supported by Russ.

ULTIMATE REDUNDANCY

How dismal were

The demigods,

That filled grim days

With ancient frauds,

In early times

When minds were fraught

With primal fears

And little thought.

Yet I would hope

There is a chance,

Such imprudence

Will not advance,

Even though it

Still seems to be,

The ultimate

Redundancy.

MAGIC THINKING

I’ve always thought,

And still believe,

Religion is

Just like a sieve,

Insisting doubts

Will drain away,

Although such thoughts

Lead one astray.

It’s obvious

Many are fraught,

With diatribe

Religion wrought.

Yet happily

Many do glow,

Relieved of doubts,

They thought were so.

For truth is not

When preachers say,

That magic thought,

Will make your day.
