Community Placement Brief Here at Middlesex University we want students to be at the heart of our local community and for the local community to see the University at its heart. We are excited to be offering Community Placements across the borough. These are paid placements rather than volunteering opportunities, as we are dedicated to providing paid placements for our students. They give our students the chance to develop their academic studies in a real world setting. They also give our students the chance to give something back into your area. MDX Home Supervisor (Community Partners & Logistics) – Hours: Every first Saturday of the month, plus 4 hours per week, with a flexibility to work more hours if necessary if agreed with the placement supervisor Salary band: London Living Wage Supervised by: Campaigns & Projects Coordinator, MDXSU Location: Based at MDX House, with outreach work into the local area across Barnet

The MDX Home Community Kitchen is a student-led initiative that was set up in autumn 2017. The project

aims to provide the homeless community and others in need in Barnet with a hot meal, a space to feel safe

and a community that they can feel safe and develop in.

In our first year we have seen the project grow and attract funding from various generous donors, be it

through food, money or time volunteering. We are now entering the second year of this project and are

looking for someone to fill two exciting roles.

We are looking for proactive, motivated person with a passion for tackling social issues, as well as

experience in building relationships and event organisation. This role will focus on working with businesses

and organisations in the local area to create new opportunities for the project to run, grow and develop

over the year. This role will work with the MDX Home Supervisor (Volunteers) to create and assign roles to

ensure the smooth running of the kitchen on a monthly basis, as well as the organisation of local donations.

Previous experience in similar roles would be helpful but is not essential as this role is all about you and

your enthusiasm. Join us in making a positive difference in the local community!

Role description MDX HOME SUPERVISOR (Community Partners & Logistics)

Accountable to: Campaigns & Projects Coordinator Responsible for: MDX Home Volunteers Salary: London Living Wage (@ £9.75 per hour) Contract: September 2017 – June 2018 Hours: Every first Saturday of the month, plus 4 hours per week, with a

flexibility to work more hours if necessary if agreed with the placement supervisor

Location: MDX House, Middlesex University Hendon campus, North London plus outreach work into the local community (Barnet)

PLACEMENT PURPOSE

1. To oversee the delivery of ‘MDX Home Community Kitchen’ as an outreach project for the local homeless community, with a focus on event logistics and organisation.

2. To develop and maintain MDXSU’s reputation across the local community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. To oversee ‘MDX Home’ as an outreach project for local homeless community, with a focus on event logistics, organisation and community relations.

To work with the MDX Home Supervisor (Volunteers) to deliver MDX Home on a monthly basis.

Oversee work of volunteers in setting up, food preparation, clothing distribution and other contributions they may make.

Collect and organise donations of food, clothing and other resources from local community.

Undertake outreach with volunteers to local homeless community to communicate the project. 2. To develop MDXSU’s reputation across the local community.

Be an ambassador and representative for the Students’ Union at all times.

Work to develop links with other local organisations such as faith groups and businesses.

Give regular and consistent feedback on current activities and experience.

To meet time and duty commitments, except in exceptional circumstances, or to provide adequate notice so that alternative arrangements can be made.
