• One of London’s most diverse and vibrant boroughs.

• More than 100 languages spoken with 170+ places of Worship

• 53,000 young people under the age of 17 making up over a quarter of the population

• 10-17 year olds make up nearly 11% of the population

• 10 – 17 year old young people were responsible for 28% of all crime

• Young people are perceived to have committed almost half (49.5%) of all Street Crime Offences.

• There is a high unemployment rate, particularly amongst 16 - 25 year olds

• Best Safer Neighbourhood Team in the MPS (Chatham Ward)

• Best Volunteer Programme – Start of 2007 we had nil volunteers, now at 49

• Leading the MPS in 2007 / 8 on Sanction Detections 30%• Successful IPT (CPS working within police station –

moved from 27th in MPS to 2nd on CJ performance)• Leading MPS in Stop and Search hit rate 23%• Leads the MPS in 3 year government reduction targets

with 32%

Highlights of 07 / 08

• Confidence ratings increased from 22% start of 07 to 54%

• 96% feel safe walking alone in Hackney during the day

• MPS PAS shows 73% of people feel safe walking alone in Hackney after dark

• FIU seized £750K of criminals assets (2nd in the MPS)

• Op Bantam has seized 27 firearms

Negative comment available for analysisI felt the officers could have taken the time to listen to me and I had to say which may have lead to the arrest of the person.The officers need to spend more time out on the street and not doing surveys, i would prefer it if they were mailed to usThe officer was polite but the victim was left feeling that nothing could be done about itProvide Reference numbers or a point of Contact. Having spoke to this person and to Pc I am convinced she was getting Pc confused with the Dc who later phoned her up. I have spoken to Pc who was very surprised at the impression she has been left with from the service she received from him. He explYes- This victim cannot remember speaking to the WCO.She received a letter informing her of the trial date and and warning her to attend court however she does not believe that she had been given enough information. She also said that she had to call theVictim believed that her neighbours children were responsible. She does not get on with all her neighour, but felt police should have knocked on a few more doors.Could of warned male at time of attending. NoCatch someoneI do not feel the incident in May or this incident has been dealt properly. NoThe officers did not say who called police when i initially asked" Im not sure what they could have done really.Victim was not happy with the service provided - she felt that officers did not care and did not provide enough information as to what would happen. VIW had contacted Lewisham Police in the past about a similar matter and found them more positive. I wanted to be taken home by the officers as I was upset. They were unable as they said they had too many call s to deal with.

Performance Targets for 2008/9 - LAA National Indicators

• Serious Violence Indicator (NI15) is showing a 26% reduction this PY compared to last however Hackney remains the 4th most victimized Borough in terms of population size within the London Boroughs.

• Serious Youth Violence (Op Curb definition) is in a 10% reduction PYTD. This definition includes all serious violence as well as any violent crime involving a gun, knife or other sharp instrument where both the perpetrator and victim are aged 10 to 19 years old.
