Working for the Weekend at Outdoor Film Festival The Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival has returned to Gateway Park this year with movies offering a mostly lighthearted take on office life and work. Films are shown Friday nights through August 22 and begin at dusk.

Before the show, stop into nearby Continental (or one of your favorite restaurants) for dinner or enjoy a picnic in the park. There will be pre-show games, prizes and plenty of fun. Take part in our #Redstapler Scavenger Hunt to win snacks from Rosslyn’s AllSpice Cafe & Catering and other prizes.

Created by experimental-pop sensation Bluebrain, Fermata is Artisphere’s first exhibition dedicated entirely to sound. Construction of Central Place Residential, to be located at 1800 North Lynn St., is underway. The JBG Companies broke ground for the 31-story mixed use skyscraper on April 23. When the development is complete in 2017, it will include an extensive glass façade window system, two floors of retail, a large public plaza, amenities for residents (pool, lounge, library, etc.) and six levels of parking.

In April, BID President Mary-Claire Burick spoke to more than 450 attendees at “The Future of Rosslyn,” a Bisnow event featuring brief talks by commercial real estate experts. They’re saying that Rosslyn is the next big thing. From Robert Bellinger, president and CEO of ASB Real Estate Investments to Andrew VanHorn, principal at The JBG Companies, speakers were virtually unanimous in their optimism. “Don’t miss the boat,” Mark Bisnow told the crowd. “Now is the time to get in [on Rosslyn] before it booms . . . like 14th and U.”

Remember Tyler and Sara?The couple got engaged last summer when Tyler organized a flash mob to help him propose to Sara during Grease, the final movie in last year’s Rosslyn Outdoor Film Festival.

The Rosslyn BID caught up with the couple recently to find out how it’s been going. They’re doing great, and reported that they’ve set the wedding date for October 12, 2014, at the Historic Tapoco Lodge in Robbinsville, N.C. As driving enthusiasts (Tyler drives a Lotus Exige and Sara drives a MINI Cooper), they’ll be honeymooning in the area to enjoy driving some of the country’s most popular touring roads.

Tyler says Sara was stunned by his proposal at the film festival. “That night was also her birthday,” he explains, “so it was the perfect cover for having such a large group of friends attend, and everyone dressing up in their 50s-inspired best.”

Although Tyler and Sara do not reside in Rosslyn, Sara drives past Gateway Park, the site of the proposal, as part of her daily commute. And one of Sara’s bridesmaids lives in Rosslyn, so she and Tyler spend a fair amount of time here. Last winter, they played in a Tuesday night cornhole league at Continental, which is also where they had their post-proposal party after Grease last summer.

Both office-dwellers, they say they’ll be back for this year’s film fest, for sure!
