Overview
Polytechnic High School was identified for the development of a
“Comprehensive Modernization Project”
Board of Education approved in March 2015
1 of 11 schools identified…so far
What does this mean?
A large-scale project is being developed to make major improvements
to Polytechnic HS’s facilities
The project will address the most critical physical conditions of school
buildings and grounds Focus on safety
Limit work on less critical items.
The project is developed based on data, analysis, and community input
Approximately 10 Times More Funding Than is Available Would be Needed to Address All the Capital
Needs of All of Our Schools

Performed by professional surveyors and geotechnical experts
Easements and utilities identified
Soil conditions analyzed
Utilized to gain understanding of various complex site conditions
Infrastructure Analysis: Spring - Summer 2015 Performed by architects and engineers
Capacity and condition of underground and above ground utilities
were analyzed including:
Sewer, storm water, plumbing, electrical, low voltagesystems, heating and cooling, etc.
Utilized for budgeting and scoping major building system
upgrades and/or replacements

Seismic Evaluation: Spring - Fall 2015
Performed by structural engineers
Buildings with characteristics identified by the State of
California Assembly Bill 300 were evaluated
Utilized to determine whether seismic upgrades are needed and
the extent of upgrades needed to further ensure safety
Historic Evaluation: Spring - Summer 2015
Performed by architectural historians
Conducted research on history of school facilities and sites
Existing buildings and sites were surveyed and analyzed toidentify character-defining architectural features
Utilized to gain understanding of historic resources
