To find out if you are at risk for vascular disease, high blood pressure and diabetes, you should measure yourself regularly – and the best place to do this is around the stomach.

WAIST-HIP-MEASUREMENT:

Measurement:Standing and with no clothes on your top half, breathe out lightly.

Waist or stomach circumference:Measure at the fattest point of the stomach (at least 2 cm above your navel); halfway between the bottom of the ribcage and the iliac crest.

Hip circumference:The hip circumference is the largest measurement just above the buttocks.An increased waistline and waist-to-hip ratio is seen as a key risk factor for the onset of various illnesses, such as CVA, coronary heart disease, strokes and diabetes mellitus type 2. In men, this ratio should be less than 1.0 and in women less than 0.85.

Measuring the waist or stomach circumference is itself a fairly good indicator:

Everything ok?According to these international values, the tape measure shows an optimal waistline in green, an excessive waistline in orange and an unhealthy waistline in red, so that you can see at a glance – even without knowing the guidelines – what level of risk you currently face. The tape measure is printed on both sides, with one side for women and the other side for men.

If you are in the orange or red areas at the start of the Healthy Steps programme this is another good reason to follow the programme consistently in order to achieve visible success in this area too.

3 MEAL MODEL THE JUICE PLUS+® SHAPE

Effective weight loss is only possible when the blood sugar level is low.As every meal leads to an increase in the blood insulin level, we recommend a maximum of three main meals a day and no more than two small snacks in between meals (each snack < 200 kcal) to ensure effective weight loss.

Every meal leads to an increase in the blood insulin level. It is only possible to burn off fat, and therefore achieve effective weight loss, when the blood insulin level is sufficiently low (shown in the illustration when the red insulin curve is in the green area).

TIP:Do not eat sugar-rich fruits just before going to bed, as this hinders the desired night-time burning of fat.

Phase 1 – StartTo get off to a really good start you should take 2 Booster Shots daily in the first two days - one in the morning and one at midday. Phase 3 – IntegrationThe focus of Phase 3 is no longer on weight reduction but on adjusting to a healthy diet and laying down permanent healthy eating habits. For that reason only one meal is replaced by a Vanilla Shake, a Vegetable Soup or a Chocolate Bar during this phase. Here, too, you are able to decide for yourself which meal you wish to replace. It is very important to take the Booster Shot every morning.This helps to keep your midday or evening meal in check so that you don’t continue eating when you are already full.

Phase 4 – StabilisationYou have succeeded and reached your target weight or a defined target. Now the challenge is to maintain your new weight. There are some tried and tested strate-gies for avoiding any relapse. Consider making one day a week your very special health day. On that day you should concentrate hard on a low-calorie intake. It helps to take a structured approach. Example: Every (!) Thursday you play sport. If the Healthy Steps Smiley data is to be evaluated online the unit should not be switched off under any circumstances, as this would delete all the stored data, which would then no longer be available for analysis.

The Healthy Steps Coach gives you the option of creating a daily, weekly or even monthly graph and analysis of your measured daily and sporting activities. In addition your exercise pattern will be individually analysed using your data at the beginning and then every four weeks. This analysis will be used to provide you with individual recommendations and tips about how you could optimise your exercise pattern even further.

Important Note:The Healthy Steps Smiley can store data for a maximum of 14 days, which means that you should transmit the data from the Smiley to the Healthy Steps Coach at least once a week (after 7 days at the latest).
