Former Mine Manager’s Residence Hamilton, Newcastle, NSW CONSERVATION WORKS COUNCIL’S ROLE COMPANY HOUSE Linda Smith of Suters Architects, Tony Babic and staff of Babic Construction, Sarah Pearce(Heritage Officer), Tony Allomes, Michael Trousdale(Technical Officer), Paul Casper, Chris Beesley, Mark McMellon all of Newcastle City Council have implemented various conservation works to date. Dennis Davidson (Senior Technical Officer) of Newcastle City Council designed and prepared display panels for the interpretation of the AA Co Mine Manager's residence. o preserve the former Australian Agricultural Company Mine Manager’s Residence Newcastle City Council have undertaken the following works: 1997 Newcastle City Council purchase the former Australian Agricultural Company Mine Manager’s Residence with grant funding from the NSW Heritage Council. Subdivide 195 Denison Street to 195a and 195b Denison Street and preserve right of way access to the A-A House. Commission a Conservation Management Plan by Suters Architects. 1999 Stabilise and re-inforce the roof structure leaving existing structural elements intact and replace 1900s galvanised steel roof sheeting over deteriorated 1850s timber shingles. Provide stormwater drainage system to discharge roof and ground water to Denison Street by Babic Construction. Provide timber paling fencing between 195,197 and 195a Denison Street by Babic Construction. Reconstruct earthquake damaged, settled and deteriorated brickwork as required reusing existing bricks and traditional materials by Babic Construction. 2000 Establish legal controls to protect the items of heritage significance related to the residence beyond the site boundary, including the view to Newcastle from the attic, protection of the front fence to #193, #195 & #197 Denison Street, protection of the well, and including some form of covenant over the land that comprises all of the former garden area of the residence. Installation of power and data services for new smoke and intruder detection systems by Chubb Security. Reglaze and repair damaged windows, doors and joinery including the replacement of a broken attic stair by NCC Building Services. 2001 Cataloguing, archiving and registration of the collection of objects belonging to the house by Sarah Skillen of Newcastle Regional Museum. 2002 Restore existing floors to bedrooms and central corridor including required masonry repairs reusing salvagable existing timbers and masonary elements utilizing traditional methods and materials, the provision of new brick piers and inspection access panels by NCC Building Services. Archaeological analysis of objects discovered in bedrooms and corridor by Archaeologist Peter Douglas.
