Our Company History

We are a full service electrical and energy company offering a range

of turnkey and specialist electrical contracting work both nationally and internationally.

Senior management founded ‘Spartan Partnership’ in 1981 to offer electrical services to its continually growing client base. In 1993 after a period of organic growth the company expanded to become Spartan Contracts Limited (“SCL”) a leading expert in electrical contracting and energy related services working across the UK. In 2009 when the previous MD retired ‘SCL Electrical and Energy’ was incorporated.

Since 2009 SCL has continued to grow its client base and expand, managing larger and more complex jobs, while retaining its core values and service. Over this time the company has also expanded internationally and positioned itself in new

market segments by specialising in technologies such as renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Our WorkSCL’s experienced team specialises in electrical contracting work for commercial, retail and industrial clients ranging from large blue chip companies to small and medium enterprises.

SCL recognise that the key to running a successful business is understanding our clients needs and meeting their expectations. This can only be achieved through effective communication between our staff and our clients. SCL have developed a robust yet simple delivery methodology for quality and consistent project delivery. We

appoint a dedicated project manager for each job who ensures that there is clear communication of the needs and requirements across the team; provides oversight of the delivery of the project to the client’s specifications and oversees the design and electrical engineers throughout the project.

SCL’s head office is in Northampton (Midlands UK) this positions us perfectly to meet the needs of our national clients. SCL also operates internationally, servicing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Asia-Pacific regions from our offices located in Saudi Arabia.

Over the three decades that SCL has been in operation it has worked with many well known and multinational clients including: the Ministry of Defence, the British Broadcast Corporation (BBC), Abdul Latif Jameel, ALJ Toyota, TNT, Halliburton, Penguin Books (Random House), BIC pens (Paris Data Centre) and numerous small to medium enterprises. Recently SCL has contracted with Beck Interiors Limited (leading interior fit out specialists) in order to offer services to ARAMCO in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Generation, Renewable Energy, Efficiency and Energy Storage SystemsSince 2009 SCL has specialised in renewable energy technology alongside its main electrical contracting work, offering customers a solution to their energy generating and efficiency needs.

SCL has designed and installed numerous renewable energy projects across the UK from domestic solar installations to megawatt scale solar farms.

SCL has practical experience and an in depth understanding of a wide range of renewable technologies including:

Interior & Exterior Electrical Fit Out & RefurbishmentsSCL are actively working within the interior/exterior electrical fit out and refurbishment market where we provide a number of specialist services for our clients.

The majority of our fit out and refurbishment work is based around Museums and Visitor Centres in the UK and internationally, including projects in the Kingdom of Saudia Arabia, Arab Emirates and the Middle East.

SCL offers a full service to our clients from early pre design and budgeting through to full design and estimation services. This level of involvement along with our experience has provided the company with a complete understanding of the varying demands encountered when conducting any fit out or refurbishment work, allowing SCL to complete projects on schedule and to our customer’s specifications.

Whilst focusing mainly on interior fit-out, we also carry out external works such as exterior lighting and have experience

in high-end retail projects. Our experience and flexible approach ensures we can successfully deliver on a number of different sizes and types of development, particularly when we have been commissioned to design and install specialist projects.

The Team

Richard Swatton Managing DirectorRichard is a self-motivated, meticulous Electrical Technician with over 25 years of experience in managing projects. Richard studied Construction Management at South Bank University and gained a HND. During this time he worked for Wimpey Construction Group and qualified as a Site Engineer and subsequently became a Site Manager.

Richard joined Spartan Contracts Limited in 1992 as an Electrical Technician and in 1995 was appointed as a Director. When the previous MD retired in December 2009, SCL Electrical and Energy Limited was incorporated and is managed and run by Richard to the present day.

Alex Methenitis Director of ContractsAlex is a highly motivated, reliable and professional individual with over 15 years of experience in managing large commercial and industrial electrical projects both in the UK and Saudi Arabia. Alex started his career in 2000 as an apprentice electrician and after completing all the relevant industry training and qualifications was quickly promoted to an Electrical Technician. Since this time Alex has gone from strength to strength, project managing larger and more complex contracts for blue chip companies such as O2 and Toyota in Saudi Arabia.

In late 2013 Alex incorporated AMECC Limited in order to offer premier electrical services to his growing client base throughout the UK and the Middle East. In 2015 Alex joined SCL and was appointed Director of Contracts where he applies his vast working experience, excellent communication and organisational skills to project manage and oversee large contracts.

Matt Snell Director, Renewable Energy & StorageMatthew studied Geological Sciences at the University of Leeds. Since leaving University in 2011 Matthew became one of the founding members of Offgird Power Wind Limited, a wind development company. As Managing Director at Offgrid, Matthew and the team have successfully planned and constructed multiple Wind Turbine developments in the UK.

In late 2015 Matthew became involved with SCL where he uses his technical experience in design, planning, renewable energy and energy storage to further the company’s ambitions in this sector. In 2016 Matthew was appointed as Director of Renewable Energy and Energy Storage.

Dr. Ruchira Pounds Internal Operations ManagerRuchira is qualified to a doctorate level and is a knowledgeable qualitative and quantitative researcher with experience of working in public, private and voluntary capacities. Ruchira has management experience and is skilled at decision making, prioritising, budgeting, team development, networking and fundraising. 

Ruchira joined SCL in 2013 to help the business develop and widen its market and client base by utilising her research and excellent interpersonal skills. Now as the Internal Operations Manager she co-ordinates meetings and appointments, liaises with staff, suppliers and clients, and helps with the implementation and maintenance of office systems and procedures.

Mick Gaughan Field Operations ManagerMick is a hard working, organised and driven Electrical Technician with over 32 years of experience in the construction and electrical industry. Mick started his career as a civil engineer and soon rose to the role of ‘Contracts Manager’ where he was responsible for a number of large civil projects. Mick later gained his electrical qualifications and joined SCL in 2008 where he was a valuable member of the team for over 5 years working on projects in the UK, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Middle East.

In 2013 Mick founded MMG Electrical, while retaining a close relationship and often working with SCL. After 3 years of successfully operating MMG Electrical, Mick was invited to re-join the SCL team under the role of ‘Field Operations Manager’ where he utilises his skills and experience to oversee projects, ensuring that all work is delivered on time and completed to the highest standards.

Paul McCormack Legal and Compliance ManagerPaul is a qualified and practicing solicitor in the Senior Courts of England and Wales. Paul trained and worked for over 7 years at the global law firm DLA Piper, before joining one of the world’s largest financial institutions (HSBC) in 2014. Paul specialises as a commercial lawyer and has in-depth knowledge of the renewable and energy sector, being a co-founder and founding shareholder of Offgrid Power Wind Limited.

Paul has years of experience advising global corporates on commercial structures and arrangements in the energy efficiency sector, including international retail businesses, global financial institutions, cross-border logistics and facilities management organisations. Paul also has extensive experience in advising on regulatory and compliance risks associated with energy efficiency solutions, including negotiating and concluding a number of complex commercial arrangements.
