Our challenges are to ensure that our forklifts remain reliable in the toughest conditions yet are environmentally friendly and offer enhanced hydraulic operation. Our models lower environmental impact by using less energy and harness hydraulics efficiently in loading operations. We use three-dimensional computer-aided design to repeatedly check whether our models disperse heat efficiently, thereby ensuring that powertrains remain in the best condition in handling heavy loads. We combine our capabilities with new hydraulic systems technologies to create truly tough vehicles.

It is essential to maintain quality in such welding such core components as masts and frames. We use robots in such welding, although this equipment operates in line with the skills and ideas of seasoned engineers. Our engineers write detailed programs for our robots, covering everything from operating angles to welding sequences and maintaining the right strength. Our welders also apply their skills manually, ensuring high quality.

Strict Quality ControlWe carry out strict quality control in everything from R&D through to production and sales. We use the most advanced technologies and equipment combined with human expertise to make sure that we can offer quality control second to none.

� Building Quality into All Production StagesQuality control in production begins with inspecting each part. We implement the strictest quality controls in welding, treating, assembling, and painting. And we ship our products to market only after they pass preparatory, completion, and shipping inspections.

� QuiksQuiks is an advanced computerized information system for managing inspection. Such a system is invaluable since we manufacture so many different models according to varying specifications. The Quiks system relies on a list of more than a 120 items. Inspection staff link to the system using PDAs, which allows them to interact with production and development divisions. The feedback is essential to the improvement of quality overall.

� SMAPSMAP is short for “service map”. It draws on feedback from our customers about our products and their experience using them. The SMAP database makes it possible for us to troubleshoot a range of issues but especially breakdowns and defects.

To provide quality products, we conduct various inspections and tests of offerings from our production lines. Strict assessments inspections are critical, so our inspectors check each model-specific item with PDAs. The constant vigilance of our inspectors prevents even the smallest defect.

� Zero EmissionsThe Tochigi Plant reached its Zero Emissions target in 2002. This facility is now working to streamline the flow of vehicles and goods to lower carbon dioxide emissions even further. In the Oyama Industrial Park, the Komatsu Plant is leading efforts to achieve zero emissions there. This is all part of a comprehensive environmental program.

� Environmentally FriendlyOur lineup includes trucks that offer reduced emissions and smoke. We have harnessed such proprietary technologies as our Super Lift Hydraulic System, which features low fuel consumption and noise, and designs that enhance recycling ratios. We are developing fuel cell-powered and energy-saving models to help customers create cleaner working environments.

It is essential to reduce wastes and conserve resources by maximizing recycling. The Tochigi Plant's recycling center spearheads efforts to collect all the facility's discarded parts and wastes. It separates and recycles rubber, metals, and other materials. The center remains committed to this challenging task.

We use this data to research and develop new products and services. We also use SMAP to collect and manage maintenance information on customer equipment and respond to breakdowns and other problems. � Global SupportKomatsu Forklift has created a structure to support distributors and dealers around the world. We provide product education and other training to bolster the solutions proposal capabilities of sales people and provide customers with the most appropriate products. The side shifter moves the forks from side to side. It is the most heavily used attachment. That is why we visit customer sites to ask about requirements. We use this information to develop and manufacture models that match the toughest operating conditions. We develop and produce our integral side shifters in our plant to optimize load handling in keeping with customer priorities.
