Introduction
Mobile Operating System
A mobile operating system, also referred to as mobile OS, is theoperating systemthat operates
asmartphone, tablet,PDA, or other digitalmobile devices. Modern mobile operating systems
combine the features of apersonal computeroperating system
withtouchscreen,cellular,Bluetooth,WiFi,GPS mobile navigation,camera,video
camera,speech recognition,voice recorder,music player,Near field communication,personal
digital assistant(PDA) and other features.
A mobileoperating system, also called a mobile OS, is an operating system that is specifically
designed to run on mobile devices such as mobile phones, smartphones, PDAs, tablet computers
and other handheld devices. The mobile operating system is thesoftwareplatformon top ofwhich other programs, calledapplicationprograms, can run on mobile devices.
The operating system is responsible for determining the functions and features available on your
device, such as thumbwheel, keyboards,WAP, synchronization with applications, email, text
messagingand more.Themobile OSwill also determine which third-party applications (mobile apps) can be used on
your device.

Types of Mobile Operating Systems
Android
Android is aLinux-basedoperating system[12]
designed primarily fortouchscreenmobile devices
such assmartphonesandtablet computers. Initially developed by Android, Inc.,
whichGooglebacked financially and later bought in 2005,[13]
Android was unveiled in 2007
along with the founding of theOpen Handset Alliance: a consortium ofhardware, software,
andtelecommunicationcompanies devoted to advancingopen standardsfor mobile
devices.[14]
The first Android-powered phone was sold in October 2008.[15]
Android isopen sourceand Google releases the code under theApache License.[12]
This open
source code and permissive licensing allows the software to be freely modified and distributed
by device manufacturers, wireless carriers and enthusiast developers. Additionally, Android has
a large community of developers writing applications ("apps") that extend the functionality ofdevices, written primarily in a customized version of theJavaprogramming language.
[16]In
October 2012, there were approximately 700,000 apps available for Android, and the estimated
number of applications downloaded fromGoogle Play, Android's primary app store, was 25
billion.
iOS
iOS (previously iPhone OS) is amobile operating systemdeveloped and distributed byAppleInc.Originally released in 2007 for theiPhoneandiPod Touchplatforms, it has been extended to
support other Apple devices such as theiPadandApple TV. UnlikeMicrosoft'sWindows
Phone(Windows CE) andGoogle'sAndroid, Apple does not license iOS for installation on non-
Apple hardware. As of September 12, 2012, Apple'sApp Storecontained more than 700,000 iOS
applications, which have collectively been downloaded more than 30 billion times.[4]
It had a
21% share of thesmartphonemobile operating system units shipped in the fourth quarter of
2012, behind only Google's Android.[5]
In June 2012, it accounted for 65% of mobile web data
consumption (including use on both the iPod Touch and the iPad).[6]
At the half of 2012, there
were 410 million devices activated.[7]
According to the special media event held by Apple on
September 12, 2012, 400 million devices have been sold through June 2012.
iOS is derived fromOS X, with which it shares theDarwinfoundation. iOS is Apple's mobile
version of theOS Xoperating system used on Apple computers. iOS currently runs on iPhone,
iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV.

Windows
Windows Mobile is a family ofmobile operating systemsdeveloped
byMicrosoftforsmartphonesandPocket PCs.[2]
Windows Mobile is the predecessor
ofWindows Phone. In February 2010, Microsoft announced Windows Phone to supersede
Windows Mobile, with the new operating system incompatible with Windows Mobile devices
and software.[3]
As a result, Windows Mobile has been discontinued.[a]
The final version of Windows Mobile, released after the announcement of Windows Phone, was
6.5.5. Microsoft has stated that the Windows Phone operating system is incompatible with
devices designed for Windows Mobile as "Windows Mobile 6.x devices do not meet Windows
Phone hardware requirements designed to ensure a consistent user and developer
experience",[4]
and software designed for Windows Mobile is incompatible with the new
operating system
Most versions of Windows Mobile have a set of standard features such asmultitaskingand the
ability to navigate a file system similar to that of Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows NT,
with support for many of the same file types. Much like its desktop counterpart it comes bundled
with a set of applications to perform basic tasks.Internet Explorer Mobileis the default internet
browser andWindows Media Playeris used for media playback, such as video and
music.Microsoft Office Mobile, the mobile versions ofMicrosoft Officeapplications,
includingOutlook Mobileis the defaultoffice suite. The ability to install third party software has
existed since the original Pocket PC implementations. A client forPPTPVPNsis
standard.Internet Connection Sharingis supported on compatible devices, which in mobile
phones allows the phone to make its Internet connection available to computers via USB and
Bluetooth.
Other mobile operating systems
BlackBerry OSfromBlackBerry(closed source, proprietary)
This OS is focused on easy operation and was originally designed forbusiness. Recently it has
seen a surge in third-party applications and has been improved to offer full multimedia support.
Linuxbased operating system (open source, GPL)[4]
Linux is strongest in China where it is used by Motorola, and in Japan, used by
DoCoMo.[18]
Rather than being an OS in its own right, Linux is used as a basis for a number of
different operating systems developed by several vendors, includingAndroid, GridOS,Boot to

Symbian has the largest smartphone share in most markets worldwide, but lags behind other
companies in the relatively small but highly visible North American market.[24]
This matches the
success ofNokiain all markets except Japan. In Japan Symbian is strong due to a relationship
withNTT DoCoMo, with only one of the 44 Symbian handsets released in Japan coming from
Nokia.

SWOT Analysis
SWOT analysis (alternatively SWOT Matrix) is a structuredplanningmethod used to evaluate
the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats involved in aprojector in abusinessventure. A
SWOT analysis can be carried out for a product, place, industry or person. It involves specifying the
objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are
favorable and unfavorable to achieving that objective. The technique is credited toAlbert Humphrey, who
led a convention at the Stanford Research Institute (nowSRI International) in the 1960s and 1970s using
data fromFortune 500companies.[1][2]
The degree to which the internal environment of the firm matches
with the external environment is expressed by the concept ofstrategic fit.
Setting the objective should be done after the SWOT analysis has been performed. This would allow
achievable goals or objectives to be set for the organization.
Strengths: characteristics of the business or project that give it an advantage over others
Weaknesses: are characteristics that place the team at a disadvantage relative to others
Opportunities: elements that the project could exploit to its advantage
Threats: elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business or project
Identification of SWOTs is important because they can inform later steps in planning to achieve the
objective.
First, the decision makers should consider whether the objective is attainable, given the SWOTs. If
the objective is notattainable a different objective must be selected and the process repeated.
Users of SWOT analysis need to ask and answer questions that generate meaningful information for
each category (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) to make the analysis useful and
find their competitive advantage

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
The above title is self-explanatory. The study deals mainly role of social media in decision
making of youth. The various channels of the social media divided in terms of social media
networking Needs, Age groups uses this, Satisfaction levels etc will also studied.
Research Design:-
Research design used was descriptive. Descriptive research describes data and characteristics
about the population or phenomenon being studied. Descriptive research answers the questions
who, what, where, when and how. Although the data description is factual, accurate and
systematic, the research cannot describe what caused a situation. Thus, Descriptive research
cannot be used to create a causal relationship, where one variable affects another. In other words,
descriptive research can be said to have a low requirement for internal validity.
Descriptive research can be either quantitative or qualitative. It can involve collections of
quantitative information that can be tabulated along a continuum in numerical form, such as
scores on a test or the number of times a person chooses to use a-certain feature of a multimedia
program, or it can describe categories of information such as gender or patterns of interaction
when using technology in a group situation. Descriptive research involves gathering data that
describe events and then organizes, tabulates, depicts, and describes the data collection (Glass &
Hopkins, 1984). It often uses visual aids such as graphs and charts to aid the reader in
understanding the data distribution.

TYPES OF DATA COLLECTED:-
Data collected included both primary and secondary data.
PRIMARY DATA:-
Primary data is that kind of data which is collected by the investigator herself for the purpose of
the specific study. The data such collected is original in character. The advantage of this method
of collection is the authenticity.
A set of questions were put together in the form of questionnaire. For the survey a sample of 100
people were considered. Out of these 75of them are personally visited, rest information about 25
are gathered through online.
SECONDARY DATA:-
When an investigator uses the data that has been already collected by others is called secondary
data. The secondary data could be collected from Journals, Reports and Various Publications.
The advantages of secondary data can be economical, both in the term of money and time spent.
The researcher of the reporter also did the same and collected secondary from various internet
sites like Google.com. Facebook.com and many more. The researchers of the reporter also
visited various libraries for collection of the introduction part.
SOURCES OF DATA COLLECTION:-
Primary Data Collection: - Primary data was collected from the respondents with the help of
questionnaire.
Secondary Data Collection: - Secondary data was collected with the help of books, magazine,
internet and jourals.

TOOLS OF DATA COLLECTION: - The popular ways to collect primary data consist of
surveys, questionnaire, interviews and focus groups, which show that direct relationship between
potential customers and the companies. Survey method was used in the study and the tool used
was the questionnaire.
QUESTIONNAIRE: it is a research instrument consisting of a series ofquestions and other
prompts for the purpose of gathering information from respondents.
PERIOD OF STUDY: This study has been carried out for a maximum period of 6 weeks
AREA OF STUDY: The study is exclusively done in the area of marketing. It is a process
requiring Care, sophistication, experience, business judgment, and imagination for which there
can be no Mechanical substitutes.
SAMPLING DESIGN: The random sampling is done because any probability sampling
procedure Would require detailed information about the universe, which is not easily available
further, as it is Being an exploratory research.
SAMPLING SIZE: The sampling size of the study is 100

SAMPLING:-
Sampling is the process of selecting units (e.g., people, organizations) from a population of
interest so that by studying the sample we may fairly generalize our results back to the
population from which they were chosen.
Sampling Design: - Sampling design used was non-probability sampling that include
convenience and judgmental sampling. In this study random sampling procedure is used.
Random sampling is Preferred because of some limitation and the complexity. Area sampling is
used in combination With random sampling so as to collect the data from different regions of the
city.
Non- probability sampling:-
Non-probability sampling is a sampling technique where the samples are gathered in a process
that does not give all the individuals in the population equal chances of being selected.
Convenience sampling is probably the most common of all sampling techniques. With
convenience sampling, the samples are selected because they are accessible to the researcher.
Subjects are chosen simply because they are easy to recruit. This technique is considered easiest,
cheapest and least time consuming.
Judgmental sampling is more commonly known as purposive sampling. In this type of
sampling, subjects are chosen to be part of the sample with a specific purpose in mind. With
judgmental sampling, the researcher believes that some subjects are fit for the research compared
to other individuals. This is the reason why they are purposively chosen as subjects.
The research conducted for this report was done purely with the help of interviews conducted
with top officials of three companies. Every company has its own environmental strategy and
thus the efforts made by each company cannot be measured on a common scale.
