Process Safety Management

Content

With OSHA-PSM standard as a base, this competency development program addresses the requirements for the identification and management of hazards associated with the processes using hazardous chemicals. This will enhance process safety in the workplace. The program will teach candidates how to develop and implement an effective and successful process safety management (PSM) program, not

only in order to meet regulatory compliance requirements, but more significantly, to incorporate it into a company’s safety culture and daily operations. The program is designed to highlight the essential elements of any process safety management system and to emphasize more specifically any pitfalls that could stand in the way of making it work.

Dust Hazard Assessment

Content

Dust explosion hazards exist in any facility or equipment that handles or processes a flammable/combustible gas liquid or solid. Dust explosion could occur during the handling of flammable solvents and powders in the chemical, pharmaceutical, petroleum, plastic, paint, coating industry and others.

This competence program will demonstrate the techniques available for both preventing dust explosions and protecting people and facilities from their effects. It employs a systematic approach to dust explosion hazard assessment directed towards obtaining a basis of safety for a process.

This competence program will teach participants how to analyse the various conditions under which dust explosions can occur and how to compare the different techniques that can be used to prevent dust explosion. Candidates will also be taught how to apply suitable measures for the protection of people and facilities from the effects of an explosion.

In addition the course will highlight the role of codes and standards in evaluating risks and the methods to eliminate dust hazards.

Venue Duration Date Fee/Participant (Taxes Extra)

Hyderabad 1 day 17th November Rs. 14500.00

Gas & Vapor Flammability

Content

This competence program provides an understanding of explosion phenomena and how to accurately assess the associated hazards of flammable gas and vapor explosions, to be able to provide a good risk analysis.

Attendees will also understand the importance of obtaining and compiling the explosibility properties of gases and vapours for preventing explosion and for mitigating the effects of possible explosions.

Practical static control techniques will be illustrated by examining case histories of explosion incidents investigated by Chilworth Technology consultants

Venue Duration Date Fee/Participant (Taxes Extra)

Hyderabad 1 day 19th May Rs. 14500.00

HAZOP

Content

This two day competency course will help attendees develop the skills & knowledge required for participating & leading a HAZOP. While the first day will cover the theoretical concepts of a HAZOP the second day will consist of conducting a practical HAZOP session. This program demonstrates how HAZOP is a rigorous, structured approach to identifying operational problems and hazards, which can be adapted to a variety of processes and technologies.

Since the effectiveness and efficiency of a HAZOP depends on the competence of the leader, this program will help leaders develop the skills necessary to make HAZOP a cost-effective aspect of process development, design, and management in their organization.

Process Hazard Assessment

Content

This two-day competence program will give attendees an understanding of the basics of Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), with emphasis on the Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) methodology which uses guide words and process variables to identify potentially hazardous deviations. Risk evaluation methods for developing the most suitable safeguards will be discussed. The program is illustrated with real examples from industry (both batch and continuous processes).

In this program, attendees will work on case studies, as part of a HAZOP working group. The technical and organizational aspects of the methodology will be covered, as well as the soft skills required to become an efficient HAZOP leader.

Content

This one-day HAC competence program aims to provide in-depth knowledge of the method of analysing and classifying the environment where explosive gas / dust atmospheres may occur. Using a systematic approach to identify flammable atmospheres and their persistence candidates are taught how to classify areas at their sites for various levels of risk.

This course presents current best practice and procedures for carrying out a HAC for flammable gases/vapors and dusts/ powders in a plant. At the end of this program candidates will develop expertise in the proper selection and installation of apparatus to be used safely in that environment, taking into account the properties of the flammable materials that are present.

Safety Integrity Levels & Layers of Protection

Content

The SIL study is to assess the adequacy of the various safety protection layers or safeguards that are in place to prevent or mitigate against hazardous event relating to major process hazards. SIL objective includes determining the adequacy of Safety Instrumented protective system designed into process system to protect against high severity event by (a) Evaluating the Safety Integrity Level required for a particular safety interlock and (b) Verifying the current design meeting the required SIL specs.

LOPA is a semi-quantitative technique to assess the adequacy of safeguards used to mitigate process risk. LOPA enhances the value of quantitative analysis methods for proactively managing process hazards and risk. Based on the analysis of the Layers of Protections provided in the facility, Chilworth has developed the presentation as a bowtie diagram (or similar) for the significant hazards to assist in the understanding of protection layers and their importance to the hazard. This combined training equips the participants to evaluate integrity of a facility/system in terms of the adequacy of its control measures and safeguards in place.
