Heifer Fitting Challenge – Beef Cattle

· Participants will be judged on how they prepare and present an animal for showing. · Once prepared for parading all animals must be lead using a leather show halter for final

inspection. · Competitors will be required to provide the following –

a. Nominated heifer b. Rope halter and nose lead to secure animal to designated tie-up area c. Preparation equipment (in a bucket) eg brushes, spray etc d. Show Halters, Show cane

· Competitors will be judged on presentation, attention to detail and WHS procedures.

13 - 18 years Youth Poultry Showmanship Competition

Competition is to educate youth in preparing, handling and Exhibiting poultry. 1. The Competitor shall be judged on the capture and removal of their bird from the pen, carrying, in hand, posing and returning the bird to the pen to complete Judge’s assessment of the Handling of the Exhibit. 2. The Competitor will be scored on their knowledge of the Exhibit. This will be assessed by answers given to questions directed from the Competition Judge.

Schools will receive a batch of day-old chicks to complete a growth trial and return with 2 male and 2 female chickens to the Sydney Royal Easter Show to be judged on 3 components: 1. Live Component - Presentation of the bird in the Show Arena. 2. Project Component - A powerpoint submission on the trial 3. Carcase Component - The quality of carcases judged to a commercial standard.

Project Competition – A powerpoint submission of the trial

Schools Australian Native Flora Competition

Native flower and foliage arrangement to a maximum circumference of 600mm in any container. All Native species and cultivars accepted.

Schools Produce Competition - Metropolitan Schools - (Radius of 80km of Sydney Olympic Park).

Class 150 – Vertical Garden. Two Components: (multiple entries permitted per school. ie: class groups) 1. Grown Component: Box or basket (not exceeding 500mm square) of produce from a Metropolitan Primary school garden, comprising of five different types of fruit, vegetables or herbs. Minimum ONE (1) piece of produce MUST be grown in the FREE Nursery Garden Industry (NGINA) Vertical Garden. Judging: quality of produce (40%), presentation of box or basket (20%).

2. Project Component (submitted via Dropbox before 16 March 2018): PowerPoint Presentation (min.5 - max. 10 slides) detailing how students prepare, grow and maintain the vertical garden, with emphasis on sustainability, to prepare for harvest of produce. Judging: quality of PowerPoint – refer to rubric (40%).
