1.0 Introduction

Bibliography

The bibliography is a fundamental part of the research, even if it stands at the very end

and sometimes is just considered an appendix. The bibliography is sometimes called

Works Cited or Works Consulted. In fact it shows the breadth of the research, the variety

of sources used and the level of specialization reached in a research subject. Bibliography

entries must be written in a very specific format and should be listed in alphabetical order

and are arrange accordingly using MLA, APA, or Turabian style.

Bibliography entries will include:

The key function of bibliography as follows;

to guide readers of the research work into the field

to give credit to other authors whose work you've consulted in the research, and

to make it easy and help curious readers to locate the sources that can be found on the subject ;

to enable the people who are reading the report or article to check the facts and to see if author used them correctly ;

Therefore it is essential for a bibliography to be clear and straightforward, in

addition to being well combined and consistent with the reference system. Bibliography

entries are usually written in a hanging indent style. This means that the first line of each

citation is not indented, but subsequent lines of each citation are indented.

Subject Matter – Economics

Economics is the social science that analyzes the production, distribution, and

consumption of goods and services. The term economics comes from the Ancient Greek

oikonomia, which means management of a household, administration. Current economic

models emerged from the broader field of political economy in the late 19th century. A

primary stimulus for the development of modern economics was the desire to use an

empirical approach more akin to the physical sciences.

Economics aims to explain how economies work and how economic agents

interact. Economic analysis is applied throughout society, in business, finance and

government, but also in crime, education, the family, health, law, politics, religion, social

institutions, war, and science.

2.0 Scope and Objective

Economy has been an important topic to be discussed since 19th

Century until

today. Economic issues have been published widely in mass media and being discussed

in seminars, conference and parliament. The world have discuss deeply on economics to

ensure financial stability of the world economic arena. Economics is a knowledge which

useful to everyone. Via economics, we learnt a lot of skills and knowledge that you can

apply to other jobs or to your personal life. Learning about interest rates, exchange rates,

economic indicators and equity markets can help you make better decisions about

investing and obtaining mortgages.

Economics will also provide an understanding of how the world works. From

economics, you will learn more about the impact decisions have on the firm, industry,

and national level. You will learn more about the impact of international trade, both good

and bad. You will discover the effect government policies have on the economy and on

employment; again both good and bad. It will help you make more informed decisions as

both a consumer and as a voter. Furthermore, I personally believe that having a more

economically literate set of bureaucrats, politicians, and journalists would be great for

society - so long as they always keep an open mind about what they've been exposed to.

Economics, when done properly, shouldn't so much tell people what to think, rather it

should give them tools about how to think of things more clearly and realizing the

assumptions they may be making.

With the above fact, the team has decided to provide sufficient bibliographies

record on economic subject, in view of providing available and dependable sources list to

public.

3.0 Arrangement

As mentioned above, the bibliographies record entries are arranged accordingly

based on alphabetical order. Alphabetical order is a method of sorting in which objects

are arranged according to the order that the letters of their name or another important

characteristic appear in an alphabet. The advantage of using this order is that it is

extremely easy to search. Given the word an entry would be filed under, it is usually

possible to determine the information or subject matter it would be filed in, and from

there it is usually fairly simple to further narrow your search, looking at any entry will

allow you to determine if the object of your search would precede or follow it.

4.0 Language of material

As the bibliographies list is produced in Malaysia, we have decided to explore

both languages, Bahasa Melayu and English sources available in the library. Thus, the

bibliographies list consists of both languages in order to facilitate Malaysian potential

users with specific sources.

Page 6: Compiling Bibliography

6

5.0 Level of bibliography

Knowledge transfer is also about conveying the right message to the right target

audience. The aim of these bibliographies was to determine the proportion of sources that

had may be related to Economics study, with providing a clear useful resources and

potential materials for their further perusal. The target audience in the list as a whole also

to examine their involvement with different field factors.

As discussed, the bibliographies list may be suited potential audiences as below;

Banker

Economist

Lecturer

Politician

Researcher

Librarian

Student

6.0 Limitation or problem

A task or project will not be easily completed. Thus, we have faced several

limitations and problems towards completing this bibliography listing. The major

limitation and problem, as below ; unavailability

Limited available sources in PTAR has encouraged us togather more sources from National Library and BankNegara Malaysia Special Library.

Economic sources and material seems easy to obtain, because it is an universal issues and knowledges to be studied, therefore, we have to wisely decide the best resources to be listed in the list.

Some of the sources and material was not classified and catalogued properly, which resulted unavailability of the sources call number.

OPAC services, provided by the National Library seems does not provide all of their collections in the system. Thus, we have explored rack by rack on the subject matter in obtaining suitable sources.

Some of the potential sources in National Library are not available, due to in the process of shifting to the new building. Proper announcement should be made in informing public on unavailability of the sources.

8.0 Conclusion

Bibliographies can be invaluable in the research process, especially when working

with large numbers of sources over a long period of time. It is very difficult (if not

impossible) to recall details about every source on a given topic. Well-written

bibliography can help crystallize key information presented in each article or research,

preserving it in a format that can be easily accessed and revisited at any stage of the

writing process.

A bibliography can be created in response to a specific research question, or it

might represent exploratory research on a broader topic at an earlier stage of the research

process. Writing about each source individually helps clarify and situate the perspectives

of different approaches to a given topic. In this way, the bibliography can serve as the

“nuts and bolts” of the research, laying out different themes and positions that have

emerged about the topic in the research. Bibliography can be referred in view of

obtaining further knowledge via the sources which has been used.

These bibliographies are an initial contribution to economist, students, lecturers

and community to explore deeply using varieties of source available in studying

economics. We believe, these bibliographies may help researchers to obtain valid and

reliable sources offered by information agencies, in Malaysia especially.
