Pass the Blessing of Christ’s Peace
Hymn No. 10: ........................................................tune:(congregation standing)
Invocation..................................................................................................Randy Daniel
Scripture Lesson: .........................................................Elisabeth SchellAt that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom ofheaven?” He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. And He said, “Truly I tellyou, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in My name, welcomes Me. If anyone causes one of theselittle ones – those who believe in Me – to stumble, it would be better for them to have a largemillstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”
Prayers of the People..............................................................................Ben Moushon

Speed the loftiest wings of Your spirit unto my soul. And fill me with powerdivine, that I may be only Thine, complete and whole am I, for I am only Thine.

Worship Notes:Participants: : Kasper Haughton, our new youth and children’s pastor from Andrews University, presentstoday’s sermon on the value of children. Randy Daniel, an elder and financial planner, hosts today’s worship.Elisabeth Schell, a senior at Spring Valley Academy, reads today’s Scripture Lesson. Ben Moushon, ourchurch’s youth leader and recruiter for Kettering Health Network, presents the Prayers of the People. KarinStarkey, our summer taskforce worker for children’s ministries and a senior music major at SouthernAdventist University, brings the Children’s Story. Jeff Firestone, manager of “Think Printing” and organist atFairborn Presbyterian Church, is today’s guest organist. Jerry Taylor, our minister of worship and music, ison vacation in Oregon visiting his family.
As we gather for worship, Jeff Firestone plays a setting of Hymn No. 96, in anarrangement by Diane Bish, who lives in Bloomington, Indiana. was composed in 1915 byPercy Eastman Fletcher (1879–1932) who was a well known and admired British musician.
(Hymn No. 10) was written originally for children and was entitled, "ComeChildren Join to Sing." It was written by Christian Henry Bateman who also wrote a number of other children'shymns. He published them in a children's hymnal entitled, , which was very popular inScotland and sold more than six million copies. Over time, adults found that they enjoyed singing this hymn, and changed the title to "Come, Christians, Join to Sing."
is a text and composition of John Purifoy, a Christian musician. Currently, Mr. Purifoy is afreelance composer, arranger, and producer, living in Knoxville, Tennessee with his wife, Vicki.
was written by Anna Bartlett Warner (1827–1915) and her sister Susan who started writingchildren’s books to help the family’s income. In 1862, William B. Bradbury, a music composer of gospel hymns, stumbled across the song's words and wrote the tune as we sing it today. He also added his own chorus: "Yes,Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me, yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so." Within months, this songraced across North America, and eventually all the continents of the world. After over a century of evolution(because other people contributed to the other verses), "Jesus Loves Me" became the number one spiritualsong in the world. It has been translated into more languages than any other song. Missionaries favor itssimple and easy-to-remember chorus as a means of explaining the gospel in a clear, simple way.
John Weaver, composer of the is now retired in Maine after a distinguished career teaching organat the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and as organist/choirmaster at Madison AvenuePresbyterian Church in New York City.
