    WATER SUPPLY AND SANITATION SCHEMES IN KHYBER PAKHTUNKHWA

    A field visit was made by Assistant Divisional Monitoring Officer (T) along with SDO and Sub-

    ngineer of Public !ealth ngineering De"artment on #$ thMay %& to monitor the "hysical and

    financial "rogress of the sub'ect scheme

    An umbrella scheme for com"letion of incom"lete water su""ly and sanitation schemes in hyber

    Pa*htun*hwa (Phase-+++) is reflected in the ADP %&&,-#& at So %$$and a""roved in the PD.P

    meeting dated #$/&0/%&&1 with a""roved cost of 2s 3%41&,million 5ollowing two schemes were

    visited on #$th

    A. DESCRIPTION AND PRO&ECT BACKGROUND

    The scheme is located in 8unda*a village with a "o"ulation of %104 "ersons The scheme is based

    on a trial bore being drilled in #,,, under tamer-i-Pa*istan "rogram Same bore was "ro"osed to

    convert to tube well The scheme was administratively a""roved at a cost of 2s #99%3 million on

    installations are yet made

    "rocedure has been followed to ma*e anyone res"onsible for o"eration and maintenance of the

    scheme During visit it was observed that tube well is sto""ed and no *eys of tube well control

    room was available with de"artment officials The de"artment may be as*ed to a""oint tube

    well o"erator or "ro"erly handover the scheme to a res"onsible "erson of the community for its

    o"eration and maintenance$ o record of connections drawn and o"erating hours has been maintained The de"artment may

    be as*ed to "ro"erly record the connections drawn and o"erating hours of the tube well9 @ea*age was observed from the main valve near tan* which needs immediate remedial

    measures as shown in "hotogra"h
