Composite Log
Overview
A Composite Log is a display of log tracks each of which contains specific interval data for a
specific borehole in a subject well Interval data are notated items such as formation age lithology
or lithologies that make up the formation depositional environments and other interpreted data
that can be obtained from electric logs and cores The following tutorial is a workflow for creating
and editing a composite log

Composite Logs and Composite Log Attributes are created on the Create tab of the Composite
Log Management dialog box Properties of Composite Logs and Composite Log Attributes are
specified on the Properties tab of the Composite Log Management dialog box
Basic Components of a Composite Log
A Composite Log is associated with a borehole that you select and display in an EarthPAK cross
section The Composite Log consists of Composite Log Tracks which are named and assigned a
track location and width Each Composite Log Track can contain multiple Composite Log
Attributes For example a Composite Log Track with the name Lithology might contain three
composite log attributes with the names Sandstone Shale and Siltstone You can specify a depth
interval in a Composite Log Table for each composite log attribute Figure 2 illustrates thecomponents of a composite log

Basic Steps to Generate a Composite Log
1 Composite Logs and Composite Log Attributes are created on the Create tab in the
Composite Log Management dialog box
2 Composite Log Attributes are assigned to the composite log on the Properties tab of theComposite Log Management dialog box
3 Interval depths for the composite logs are entered in the Composite Log Table Composite
log attributes correspond to the interval data
Basic Workflow
In this exercise you will create a type log for the Federal Sooner 7-21 well Sooner Unit in Weld
County Colorado The type log will be made up of digital logs and composite logs that will
include age lithologies and descriptions

Attributes For example a Composite Log Track with the name Lithology might contain three
composite log attributes with the names Sandstone Shale and Siltstone You can specify a depth
interval in a Composite Log Table for each composite log attribute Figure 2 illustrates thecomponents of a composite log
