EsysCompression staples
Forefoot surgery
The ESYS compression staples may be applied in various forefoot surgical indications such as :• The phalangeal shortening osteotomy.• The metatarsophalangeal arthrodesis of the first ray.• Proximal and distal first ray osteotomies.
Esys
2 ranges : Standard staple and asymetrical compression staples
Indications
Characteristics
Description• Wide range of sizes : 11 references featuring 11 and 15 mm interaxis distances, standard and asymetrical staples.• The specific forceps is used to mechanically compress the olive of the staple while drawing the staple legs together.• Surgeon-controlled compression.• A single sliding drill guide to match each staple interaxis distance.• Material : Stainless steel 316L ( ISO 5832-1 )
Asymetric staple
Interaxis 11 mm and various leg lengths.Section : 1.55x1.5 mm
Standard staple
Interaxis distances of 11 and 15 mmand various leg lengths.Thread section : 1.55x1.5 mm
Operative Technique
P1 shortening :P1 shortening + varisation
A first proximal cut is performed parallel to the metatarsophalangeal joint, without penetrating the second lateral cortex. The second cut is perfor-med bicortically, parallel to the axis of the ungual base. A cortical « stairstep » is thus created to enhance the primary stability of the phalangeal osteotomy.
The osteotomy is held manually (a Ø 1,0 mm temporary axial wire might also be used), while the drill guide is adjusted to match the staple’s interaxis distance, tightened then positioned on each side of the osteotomy. Drill using Ø 2,2 mm drill bits.
P1 osteotomy : « cortical stairstep ».

• Compression is archieved by closing progressively the handleof the forceps, which produces approximation of the bone fragments.
The built-in stop protects from excessive compression.

Example of operative technique
P1 shortening :
The staple is placed in the holder forceps. Insert the staple into the drilled holes.
Staple compression is gently performed and the forceps is removed.
