MVNE IN REPLACEMENT

BUSINESS CHALLENGE The MVNE’s legacy IN system was reaching end of life and in the same time

end of support contract with their provider. The renewal of the existing

contract would have consistently increased the costs and the operational

burden due to the fact that the provider evolved from a small vendor into a

large global company as an outcome of an acquisition process. The legacy IN

included functions such as INSCP, SMS routing and rating and charging (OCS);

the platform grew year by year into a more complex one by adding new

MVNO specific services therefore the MVNE now wanted to unify it in order to

reduce operating costs and be prepared to address new requests coming

from MVNOs faster and at a lower cost.

COMPUTARIS CONTRIBUTION

Computaris delivered a solution on top of Opencloud IN that is now a

separate system from the OCS system. The solution covers all existing

functionalities but in an improved and more flexible form, allowing the MVNE

to launch new services fast and easy; the solution included the following

components:

• IN SCP based on OpenCloud Rhino Telecom Application Server and

OpenCloud Sentinel, hosting functional modules responsible for real-time

service control logic

• IN Integration Layer based on Apache Camel, being single point of

interaction between external systems and new IN Platform components

• SMS storage • Stirring of roaming

CUSTOMER PROFILE

The customer is a global MVNE serving

customers from several countries from

Europe, Asia and America.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

The new IN platform enables the MVNE

to easily and cost effectively launch new

services, attract the most successful

MVNOs and help them become even

more successful and create profitable

business partnerships with MNOs with

lower TCO and maintenance costs.

CUSTOMER PROFILE AND BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Our customer, a global leading mobile broadband specialist, had a considerable delay and was facing disaster in a

multi-million dollar project. They had to implement a system for localization services that would improve public

safety by reducing localization time for 911 calls at a leading US mobile operator. The delay was caused by the fact

that our customer had initially signed a contract with a third party to deliver a complex and critical software

component for this project, the BSA Processing Tool and after 2 years the progress was still very slow, the

components already delivered had a very low quality and the deadline for the project was approaching rapidly.

BSA PROCESSING TOOL SOLUTION DEPLOYMENT – MANAGING A CRISIS SITUATION

COMPUTARIS CONTRIBUTION

Computaris was requested to build the solution from ground zero, our

client expecting us to deliver in less than 4 months what their previous

supplier couldn’t deliver in 2 years. The project was split in two phases:

• phase one was focused on the delivery of a GUI for cell info

visualization

• phase two was focused on the integration with the new location based

services system, upload and rollback mechanisms implementation

Referring to technology, we used Java J2EE as main development

language for Oracle Database and Vaadin that uses Google Web Toolkit

for GUI framework building and most of the work was done offsite, this

significantly reducing the total cost of the project.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

“You performed a miracle here, it

was the smarter move we could

have done to change the supplier

on the last 100 meters” stated our

customer’s technical counterpart.

TOP TESTING SUITE – MEDIATION SOLUTION UPGRADE

CUSTOMER PROFILE AND BUSINESS CHALLENGE

The customer is the Eastern European subsidiary of a leading tier one

mobile network operator (MNO) that operates GSM, UMTS and LTE-based

cellular networks in Europe, Canada and US. As part of a complex

migration project we were delivering, Digital Route’s MediationZone

system had to be upgraded to the latest version and to another server.

There were a few network elements (SGSN, GGSN, etc) that were sending

messages over Diameter to the mediation solution. During the migration

project Computaris had to check if all messages were being decoded and

processed in the same way on both versions of the mediation solution.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

The migration process was significantly

faster and was successfully finished in due

time; Furthermore the operator is now

using the tool for additional testing

activities as he acknowledged TOP Testing

Suite’s capability to reduce the time to

market and the costs associated to testing

new products, product enhancements and

validation of deployment/system

integration services.

COMPUTARIS CONTRIBUTION

Computaris captured the traffic from all the systems and stored it as PCAP files. TOP Testing Suite Diameter Plugin

gave us the possibility to load diameter messages from PCAP files directly into JMeter testplans, minimizing our

testing efforts and assuring a safe migration. We commenced the process by analyzing those protocol dumps and

saving filtered messages in files dedicated for specific test cases; Creating messages in Computaris TOP Testing

Suite was just 5 clicks away and could be done extremely easy and fast.

Page 15: Computaris Case Studies Compendium

TOP TESTING SUITE – REGRESSION TESTING

CUSTOMER PROFILE AND BUSINESS CHALLENGE

The customer is the American subsidiary of a leading Tier 1 mobile network operator (MNO) that operates GSM, UMTS and LTE-

based cellular networks in Europe, Canada and US. The customer had a series of regression tests that needed to be quickly and

efficiently executed, more specific:

• While performing regression tests in the provisioning system (which was using Web Services to provision data and partners)

there was a need to efficiently provision data in the system prior to test

• While performing regression tests in the PCRF system there was a need to rapidly trigger all the flows in order to tests the

PCRF system

• While performing regression tests in the data metering system there was a need to trigger all the flows in order to test the

data metering system

COMPUTARIS CONSTRIBUTION

For the first scenario (provisioning system regression tests) a JMeter LDAP Sampler was

used to provision database data; For the second scenario (PCRF regression tests) TOP

Testing Suite Diameter Sampler was used as an entry point into the system and the JMeter

Soap Sampler was used to trigger notifications from the provisioning system into PCRF

system in order to cover all the business flows; For the third scenario (data metering

regression tests) TOP Testing Suite Diameter Sampler was also used as the entry point and

the JMeter LDAP Sampler was used to verify that all data are provisioned correctly into the

system.

RESULTS AND BENEFITS

Computaris TOP Testing Suite

increased the effectiveness of

the operator’s testing

activities - every time the

systems are

upgraded/modified, the

existing flows are

automatically tested,

significantly reducing the time

allocated to testing activities.
