As part of my course, I took part ina placement year at Chiasma Data.This was extremely useful, not justfor learning new programminglanguages and techniques, but alsofinding out more about me and mypreferred style of work.

Why choose this course?Videogames, word processors, websitesand mobile apps are all different kinds ofsoftware. Software is what makes com-puters useful and the internet possible,but did you know that many appliancesand even modern cars wouldn’t run with-out it?

Software touches almost every aspect ofour daily lives. Software is made by com-puter programmers, and those who getthe best jobs and make the best softwarehave a deep understanding of ComputerScience.

What you’ll cover

About the courseOn this course, you will study ComputerScience and learn to become a computerprogrammer.

Throughout the course you’ll gain theknowledge and develop the skills that theindustry are looking for. You’ll learn thefoundations of computer science,software development and programming.

How you’ll learnYou’ll study computer science with astrong emphasis on practicalprogramming skills, by using cutting-edgesoftware development tools in ourindustry standard labs.

You’ll also spend a year in industry onplacement, working alongside industryprofessionals, enhancing your careerprospects and giving you a distinctadvantage in the job market.

Your careerUpon graduation, you’ll discover industrydemand for your new, highly developedskills in software development. Themajority of computing jobs requiresoftware development abilities andexperience, so whether you want to be asoftware engineer, project manager,technical architect or chief technologyofficer, this degree will help you get there.

This programme is geared toward careersin the software industry or furthereducation in computing.

What you’ll coverYou’ll explore the core topics of computerscience including computer graphics,software engineering, databases,enterprise systems, systems programmingcomputer language design andimplementation. You’ll also spend a year inindustry on work placement. You’ll workalongside industry professionals and you’llsee how the knowledge and skills you’velearnt are put into practice, giving you adistinct advantage when applying forgraduate jobs.

Entry requirements: Academic – 260 UCAS tariff points, ofwhich at least 220 must be from yourInternational Baccalaureate or equivalentqualification.
