The BIET Program

• Designed for AS transfer students from technically oriented Computing Technology programs

• Can accommodate AA transfers who must take a core of AS technology courses

Advising Stages

• Prospect– Interested but needs more information

• Applicant / New Admit– Transfer credit– Remaining courses

• Current Student– What to take next

• Graduation Check

Prospects

• What is IET?• How is it different from CS, CE, MIS?• Is the program accredited?• Will the BIET prepare me for

graduate school?• I have or an working on an AA, not an

AS. What about me?• Can I get financial aid?

Applicant / New Admit

• What transfer credit?– Everything, as long as it is from a regionally

accredited college or university– Need to evaluate coursework from transcript

• Banner if application is complete• Otherwise have student provide a copy, but it is

not official

• Use advising spreadsheet

Non-AS Transfers

• What is the Block Credit– Any 27 technical credits from an AS program– Suggesting change to require it come from a

single program for focus– Do not count most basic courses like basic

computer use

Current Students

• Review transcript to see what is done• Recommend next courses to take• Deal with holds• Advise students at risk

– Probation or GPA near 2.0

Transient Student Form

• Required each term for admitted student taking courses at community college or elsewhere

• Student must first be registered at FAU

• Electronic form at www.facts.org

Page 9: Computer Science & Engineering Department Bachelor of Information Engineering Technology Advising

Graduation Check

• Student complete application and survey

• Print current transcript• Verify all requirements will be met• Send all completed forms to CSE

Boca Office

Need Help

• Use the FAQs• Note new issues for addition to FAQ

list• Get help from another advisor• If it’s not a CSE issue send student to

the office that handles the issue
