SuSE Linux

- SuSE was originally an acronym for "Software und System Entwicklung" (Software and System Development), a German Unix consulting company founded in 1992. In 1994, it released S.u.S.E. Linux 1.0, which was based on Softlanding Linux System (SLS) and Slackware Linux. In German, SuSE is pronounced "zoo-zah," but is often pronounced as "soo-say" by English speakers.

Turbolinux

• The Turbolinux distribution was created as a rebranded Red Hat distribution by (then) Pacific HiTech employee Scott Stone. Scott was the lead release engineer through version 3.6.

• Turbolinux is notable for including licensed copies of CyberLink PowerDVD and Windows Media binary codecs

Mac OS X

formerly Mac OS X, is a series of Unix-basedgraphicalinterface operating systems developed, marketed, and sold byApple Inc. OS X (officially) runs exclusively on Macintosh computers and has been pre-loaded on all Macs since 2002.

OS X is the tenth major version of Apple's operating system for Macintosh computers. Previous Macintosh operating systems were named using Arabic numerals, e.g.Mac OS 8 and Mac OS 9. The letter X in OS X's name refers to the number 10, aRoman numeral. It is therefore correctly pronounced "ten" (/ˈtɛn/) in this context. However, due to the tenth version being the first to be based on Unix origins, and a reason for the Roman numeral to be used for the number 10 in its honour, a common pronunciation is "X" (/ˈɛks/).
