WHY unisex?
When properly planned and designed, unisex bathrooms are extremely ecient, accessible, and sae.
Unisex bathrooms work very well or campgrounds because they cater to amilies with small children who
need to be accompanied by a parent, elderly people who may be accompanied by a caretaker or spouse, and
handicapped campers who may need assistance rom a caretaker or relative.
Toilet wait times are reduced during high-trac times by not blocking of vacant toilet units to an opposite
sex, thus assuring maximum availability at all times.
The possibility o peeping toms is reduced by making it extremely dicult to know where the opposite sex
may be using a unit. Attendants will be able to monitor the public areas through surveillance cameras.
The Outhouse attendants will record any comments and complaints and structural adjustments will be
made to the acility accordingly.
WHat aBout PrivaCY?
Privacy will not be compromised. Each unit is separated by a 9 oot high and 9 inch thick concrete wall.
The corrugated metal doors will start at 6 inches rom the oor and two rectangular landscaped areas
in the courtyard with approximately 30 inch high vegetation will provide an additional visual barrier.
Overhang structures, louvered roong (on select units) and thick, thorny vegetation around 9 oot
perimeter walls will signicantly hinder access to the units rom the outside. Video surveillance and an on-
site attendant will urther ensure onsite security and comort or all visitors.
and durinG rainY daYs or Winter montHs?
Louvered roong or a similar roong system which provides shelter rom the elements and insulation will
be installed over 20 to 40% o the units or both bathrooms and showers year round. This type o roong
system allows the controller to remotely angle the roo blades, concentrating the suns rays on a cold day
or providing shade on a hot day.
A percentage o the shower stalls with louvered roong can be closed during the shoulder
and winter seasons.
