Music has been the language of life par excellence throughout the ages, unfettered by time and space. For its 2013 summer edition, Crans-montana Classics is proposing a series of remarkable and original musi-cal encounters, connecting classical and world music and bringing together experienced artists and young talents for a unique musical event. Setting the tone with the opening concert on 3 august, the artistic director maestro Shlomo mintz will combine his mu-sical expertise with the talents of young violinists, all prizewinners of major international competitions, in an exciting and eclectic programme.

on 6 august, elmar Gasanov, prizewinner of the 2012 edition of the Geza anda com-petition, will enchant our ears with a romantic piano recital. on 10 august, Cihat askin and Yair Dalal will guide us on a trip through eastern musical traditions. Yair Dalal is especially known for his improvisation skills, his concerts to promote peace and his famous and moving song celebrating the 1993 oslo Peace agreement. He is also the driving force behind an orchestra that brings together arab and Jewish - including orthodox Jews - musicians.

Crans-montana Classics will conclude its summer edition on 17 august with Shlomo mintz on a high note in keeping with the guiding spirit of the festival. The new rus-sian Quartet will perform alongside an 8-year old violin prodigy, alma Deutscher, who has already composed an opera and a concerto for violin!

Crans-montana Classics is totally committed to maintaining the standard of excel-lence established at the beginning of the masters Classes and which made their success in 2012: top-tier candidates and an equally exceptional pedagogical team working alongside maestro Shlomo mintz and Zakhar Bron, today considered the greatest violin teacher in the world. The influx of new and talented candidates for the master Classes, whose number has tripled in a year, has brought with it a wave of youthfulness and energy in keeping with and essential for the image of Crans-montana.

Crans-montana Classics is also hosting a series of original “Concerts off”. David rey and his Geneva Brass Quintet will give an open-air performance in the pastures at Colombire and the master Class students will also put on several free concerts at the Hotel royal.

The Crans-montana Classics team is looking forward to welcoming you to the Haut-Plateau next august and would like to take this opportunity to thanks its pa-trons, sponsors and friends for their generous and unfailing support.

Professor Jean BonvinPresident

In a world of turbulence and conflict it is more than ever the responsibility of each and every one of us to promote culture and the arts, which are forces for harmony and peace.

In the life of a musician, serving the great composers is an immense privilege and sharing musical emotions with the audience is an immense joy. But I also feel that passing on the love of music to future generations is a noble mission, a natural commitment and an im-portant duty. This is why I place so much importance on the influence of the Crans-montana master Classes, which have encountered huge success from the be-

ginning thanks to prestigious teachers such as Zakhar Bron, Victor Danchenko, Hagai Shaham and Cihat askin. my hope is that from year to year the financial resources of Crans-montana Classics will enable it to welcome a growing number of candidates emerging from the major international violin competitions.

over the years I have had the good fortune to lead many master Classes on all the continents and to share my passion for the violin and for music with young virtuo-sos. Today I take a certain pride in contributing in my own way to promoting the image of Crans-montana throughout the world.

maestro Shlomo Mintzartistic Director

As President of the Pierre arnaud and Caprices Festival Foundations, I am delighted to see how Crans-montana Classics is enhancing the cultural life of the resort through prestigious concerts and attracting soloists who come from all over the world to attend master Classes given by internationally re-nowned teachers. It is extremely important for our resort to offer both its residents and visitors a wide range of cultural and artistic events and thus to give them an additional reason to visit and stay with us.

The Pierre arnaud Foundation, which will inaugu-rate its magnificent museum in Lens in December 2013, is very pleased to work closely with other cultural associations in the Haut-Plateau. Since its creation in 2007 to honour the memory of the collector and patron Pierre arnaud, the Foun-dation has positioned itself as an intermediary between the arts and the public by facilitating access to cultural events for many people. Just as was the case with Caprices Festival, which recently celebrated its tenth anniversary, I am convinced that CmC’s concerts-events and master Classes will, with each passing year, obtain an international renown and reputation.

maSTer CLaSSeSThe violin master Classes are primarily aimed at winners of important in-ternational competitions. Launched in 2012, they were highly successful and attracted a large and enthusiastic audience. The number of candidates has grown threefold this year, to the extent that we have even had to ex-clude some very high-level applicants from all over the world.

This success is due above all to an internationally renowned team of tea-chers, such as Zakhar Bron, Victor Danchenko and Cihat askin, who have responded unhesitatingly to maestro Shlomo mintz’s invitation.

This summer, CmC is proud to present an eight-year-old violin prodigy, alma Deutscher, to the audience and guests of Crans-montana. This British musician has already composed several works, including an opera and a vio-lin concerto, in which she will be performing as soloist with the new rus-sian Quartet and maestro Shlomo mintz at the final concert on august 17.
