concordia hanoi yearbook 2011-2012
DESCRIPTION
Community was an ongoing theme in our school during the first year of Concordia Hanoi hencethe theme, "Creating Community." After all, how many opportunities does one have in life tocreate a community from its' very beginning?Congratulations to these 14 fine young ladies and gentlemen who put their heart into creatingwhat they thought would represent this amazing year. We hope these pages will create somefond memories as we look back on the 2011-12 school year in the future. This yearbook is justone symbol of the "community" that has been created at Concordia International School Hanoi.TRANSCRIPT
Creating Community
A community is defined as a group of people having a particular common interest or experience. On day one, Concordia was not a community. We were a group of 65 students, teachers, and staff with one similar experience. Everyone was new to Concordia. Every student and teacher started the first day of school in a new school.
As the year progressed students and teachers learned a little more about each other. Through classroom activities, field trips, musicals, sports, ASAs, and events our students developed friendships with each other. The celebrations and challenges we experienced bonded us together as a community.
Concordia will never have another year like we did this year. Students will come and students will go and Concordia will grow and change, just like each of us. Our experiences this year will remain the common thread that keeps us connected together as a community.
As you reflect on the pictures found on these pages, I hope you will remember with great joy the 2011-2012 school year and the community of friends that were created at our school.
Steve Winkelman
Wow! Concordia International School Hanoi has started with an excellent community of students, parents and teachers. Please enjoy this yearbook as a reflection of our amazing, exciting, and event-filled first year! Congratulations to all of our students, their families, and our faculty for making history in being a member of the founding community of Concordia International School Hanoi.
I like our school theme Creating Community and the yearbook’s interpretation of how our Concordia community was formed and celebrated during our inaugural year. Community plays an important role as it supports the growth and development of every individual. We have done this through celebration, encouragement, and setting of high expectations for ourselves, classmates, colleagues, and friends.
Our Concordia community includes people from many cultures. We share a focused goal of learning more about the world around us, its' possibilities, our own roles and responsibilities to better the lives of others, while striving for excellence in all that we do!
My personal highlights of this school year include the excellent teaching our students received, formation of basketball and volleyball teams, the Walk-A-Thon, the Christmas concert, the Hanoi Inter-School Art Show, the Middle School service trips to Phu Tho Province, and the other academically centered travel opportunities to Halong Bay and the Mekong Delta.
Congratulations to our Middle School students who have created this yearbook for our community to celebrate our first year. Many thanks also to Ms. Zimbrick, for her leadership and guidance to our yearbook staff, in the production of this yearbook!
Go Concordia!Patrick Frerking
Creating Community
In order to grasp some measure of true excellence, in order to achieve a noble task or accomplish a goal that is lofty beyond the reach of any one individual, there comes a moment in which a group of solitary souls chooses, one by one, to willingly set aside the hope of realizing their own private interests. Looking beyond, they choose something better…
- to honor others more than themselves
- to bear with one another
- to forgive one another
- to support each other
- to celebrate with each other
- to make choices based on what is good, true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable.
When people unite behind a common goal and worthwhile purpose they create something wonderful… Community.
From the youngest babe to the wisest elder, we are all designed to live, work, love, and learn in harmonious community. It is to this honorable pursuit that this yearbook is lovingly dedicated.
We warmly invite you to join us, to be in community with us, so that together we can accomplish something truly remarkable.

Community was an ongoing theme in our school during the first year of Concordia Hanoi hence the theme, "Creating Community." After all, how many opportunities does one have in life to create a community from its' very beginning?
Congratulations to these 14 fine young ladies and gentlemen who put their heart into creating what they thought would represent this amazing year. We hope these pages will create some fond memories as we look back on the 2011-12 school year in the future. This yearbook is just one symbol of the "community" that has been created at Concordia International School Hanoi.
It has been a pleasure working with all of you!
As yearbook creators, we would like to thank the countless people, both seen and unseen, who provided photos and support during yearbook production. We could not have done it without your help.
