In Egypt, Cleopatra valued Lapis Lazuli as both eye shadow and a stone which aided her in seeing any situation clearly – a very valuable asset when dealing with powerful men such as Julius Cesar and Marc Anthony.

In Greece, the early women’s suffragist Theodora, empress of the Byzantine Empire, relied on Amethyst to help remain calm when dealing with her male detractors.

Russia’s Catherine the Great found luck in Green Aventurine and often presented foreign dignitaries with gifts made from the stone.

Joan Crawford’s unequivocal love of Sapphires prompted the press to call them “Joan Blue”. No doubt she knew Sapphires are believed to keep away harm and envy.

For today’s remarkable women, Concordia offers exquisite gemstone and sterling silver jewelry inspired by the beliefs of history’s luminary women. Our gemstones are carefully selected to identify the most brilliant in color, and we use only the highest quality sterling silver and 18K gold to produce beyond elegant jewelry that inspires confidence, balance and harmony for the woman who treasures it most.

Long before Marilyn Monroe famously serenaded diamonds, gemstones were treasured by history’s most remarkable women as objects that inspired strength and confidence. From the Queen of the Nile to the Queens of Stage and Screen, gemstones have always been more than decorative adornment.

oncordia is dedicated to the historical love affair between women and gemstones throughout the ages.

Once inspiration is translated into renderings, production follows careful thoughtof how the piece will accentuate a woman’s natural beauty. With the Equinox, Leesa and Michael deliberated intensely on structure, theorizing that a bold necklace should gracefully follow the wearer’s movement. Thus, the Equinox was engineered through an intricate pinning process that allows the necklace to flow with the woman.

For the Ley Collection, Mother of Pearl was chosen for its beauty, yet Leesa and Michael felt something more was needed. They challenged their artisans to discover a technique to embed Iolite, Citrine, Garnet or Peridot into Mother of Pearl without cracking the pearl. After multiple attempts, they succeeded in creating a necklace that embodies the mysteries of creation inherent in every woman.

The team chooses gemstones in accordance with legendary accounts of how powerful women in history have regarded the stone – such as Cleopatra with Lapis Lazuli or Theodora with Amethyst. Each stone is hand-selected, then cleansed in pure water from a mountain stream before being cut, polished and set in 18K gold or sterling silver. Concordia only uses high quality sterling silver coated with an anti-tarnish finish to assure the necklace, earrings or bracelet can be passed from mother to daughterfor generations to come. After several rounds of quality control, the final product is cleansed again in pure water before packaging in a silk pouch.

Attention to detail, a challenge to natural convention and a strong respect for the feminine is what characterizes Concordia most. It is Leesa and Michael’s very wish that when a woman adorns a Concordia piece, her intrinsic feminine mystique is immediately venerated.

We partner only with gemstone and metal sources that honor fair trade and green practices. We also support women-owned enterprises, and entrust our production to a woman-owned workshop that provides health insurance and safe working conditions for its artisans.

DESIGN & MANUFACTURE

Master artists Leesa Greenstein and Michael Wallace collaborate to create beautiful Concordia jewelry for the confident, modern day woman. Their design process is fluid, taking inspiration from nature, history, people, places, culture and life’s dynamic energy. Random doodling becomes a new interpretation of a heart-shaped necklace; the first day of autumn spurs a sterling silver leaf to the décolletage; and casual studies in antiquity enables modern women to be adorned like women of the Byzantine.
