2 SYSTEM DESCRIPTIONThe REHAU RAUTITAN system for under floor heating and cooling applications consists of:

6 MATERIALS

1.2 PE-Xa cross-linked polyethylene pipePipe materials shall be a PE-Xa inner layer and an outer EVOH oxygen barrier with pink adhesive for clear distinction as radiant heating/cooling pipe. Oxygen-tight according to DIN 4726.Suitable for use in heating and cooling applications in residential and commercial applications in accordance with BS EN 1264 and BS 7291.

Fittings and sleeves shall be REHAU RAUTITAN PX or MX.

RAUTITAN PX polymer fittings made of PPSU (colour: black) with tool tabs for precise attachment of the assembly tool RAUTOOL shall be used for threadless connections from 16 to 40mm.

RAUTITAN PX multi directional polymer sleeves made of PVDF (colour: black) with laser engraved production date shall be used for all connections from 16 to 40mm.

RAUTITAN MX DZR Brass fitting made of special dezincification-resistant brass, manufactured in accordance with AS 2345, DIN EN 12164, DIN EN 12165 and DIN EN 12168 grade A (equivalent to highest requirement category) shall be used for all threaded connections from 16 to 40mm.

1.5 REHAU manifoldManifolds shall be installed at a location approved by the Architect. The number of manifold outlets shall correspond to the number of circuits served by that manifold.

Option 1: BrassREHAU manifold manufactured from standard (CW508L) brass as a distributor and collector for the individual heating and cooling circuits. Pre-assembled and mounted on sound-insulated galvanised steel brackets. Combined flow meter 0-4 l / min and quick stop in the supply header, thermostat insert with flow rate control in return header. 2 to 12 outlets ¾” male thread euro-cone. Maximum operational pressure 600kPa (6 bar) at 80°C. N.B. 7-port, 9-port and 11-port manifolds are non-standard items in Australia and New Zealand, please check with your local REHAU Sales Office for availability.

Option 2: PolymerModular REHAU manifold manufactured from corrosion resistant and thermal resistant reinforced fibreglass as a distributor and collector for the individual heating and cooling circuits. Supply modules in red colour with integrated shut-off valve, attachment of actuator possible. Return modules in blue colour with integrated, adjustable flow meter, lead-sealable cap. 2 to 17 outlets ¾” male thread euro-cone. Operating temperatures from -20 to +90°C. Maximum test pressure 1,000kPa (10 bar), maximum operational pressure 600kPa (6 bar).

1.6 REHAU Flow temperature controlProvide flow temperature control for every manifold to maintain the supply temperature delivered to the underfloor heating circuits to the designed level. Use the following components:

Option 1: For brass manifoldsCompact mixer unit, pre-assembled pump module fitted with circulating pump, integral thermostat limit and mixing valve to control supply temperature, pump and flow temperature exceeding safety limits. Ready to fit to left or right side of REHAU brass manifolds.

Option 2: For polymer manifoldsUniversal flow temperature controller with pump, control valve, throttle valve, actuator, bypass, sensor and temperature limiter. This digital electronic type can work in 3 different modes: 1. Outside Temperature controlled flow temperature, 2. Constant flow temperature, 3. Boiler controlled flow temperature. Connection to the left or right side of the REHAU polymer manifold.

1.7 REHAU Zone controlProvide control zones with 2-channel timer function with night set-back mode as per the drawings based on the following components:

7 INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING

1.8 InstallationMake sure installation area is fully cleared, flat even floor and surface free of irregularities. Co-ordinate with builder at shop drawing stage to identify all construction joints and saw cuts with concrete floors. Mark all heated and non-heated areas and floor joints on the floor area. Install the manifold straight at the designated position by firmly attaching it to the ground. Underslab insulation, damp proof membrane, chairs and reinforcing mesh to be provided and installed by main contractor.

Pipework LayoutPipework to be cable tied to the concrete mesh. Lay pipes in a continuous length from the manifold in the pre-designed configuration. REHAU fittings can be embedded into concrete if agreed with designer. Fittings to be wrapped with PVC tape. Pipes start and finish at the manifold position. Pipes must run to the corresponding port on the manifold. Do not cross pipes over in the floor. Pipe depth in concrete should provide a minimum thickness of 45mm above the crown of the pipework. Note the real pipe length of each circuit to adjust the hydraulic balancing of the manifold. Mark the name of each circuit on the corresponding manifold outlet. All coils in floors shall be installed strictly in compliance with the requirements of the structural engineer and in accordance with the recommendations of REHAU for concrete floor heating applications. Piping shall be installed completely free of twists, warps or buckles.

Conduit SleevingSleeve all flow pipes with REHAU conduit sleeving where the pipe enters and returns from concrete for the first metre to REHAU requirements. Sleeve across construction joints in floor. When installing pipe in door frames or through walls install a section of corrugated sleeving in this area to allow free movement of the pipe.

Connection to main supply and return linesProvide total flow rates and head losses for each manifold to the contractor of the main supply and return lines to enable them to design pump sizes, pipe dimensions and all other

components required to render the system fully operational. The connection of the UFH/C system to the main supply and return pipes is the duty of the mechanical contractor.

1.9 Filling and Pressure TestingPressure test the system with water before the slab is laid to ensure all joints are watertight and no damage has occurred to the pipe during installation. In case of freezing conditions, add antifreeze to avoid freezing of the water in the pipes. Make sure antifreeze is suitable for PEX and brass materials. Allow for pressure testing of the underfloor heating pipe circuits to 600kPa. Lay the slab as soon as possible, in good contact to the pipes, without any airpockets, after laying the pipe circuits and completion of a pressure test. Leave pipe circuits under pressure until concrete is cured. Provide signed and witnessed pressure testing protocol.

1.10 Initial Warm-UpAllow the concrete to dry for 3 weeks. Balance the system via the valves on the manifold to achieve an even flow and heat up. Start the warm-up procedure according with BS EN 1264 and REHAU requirements. Provide signed and witnessed warm-up protocol.

1.11 CommissioningEnsure the complete central heating system, including main supply circulation pump and radiators if present, is working. Based on the real pipe length noted during laying of the pipework, adjust each circuit slowly via the valves on the manifold to ensure an even flow and heat up is achieved (hydraulic balancing). Provide commissioning certificate.

Run the system for at least two weeks before the floor covering is finally laid. For floor coverings use adhesive suitable for temperatures up to 40ºC.

8 DOCUMENTATION

1.12 Design DataInstaller to provide pipe layout drawing to main contractor prior to installation.

1.19 REHAU tacker systemTacker sheet:Expanded polystyrene EPS insulation sheet laminated with a fabric reinforced foil made from polyethylene to REHAU requirements. The water resistant foil prevents moisture and water from the screed reaching the EPS floor insulation. One side foil overlap. A grid system is printed onto the clear foil to aid correct pipe spacing at laying intervals of 50mm and multiples thereof. Thickness 25mm, grade SL (compressive strength 70 kPa acc AS 1366), R-value 0.6For other Tacker sheet options check with REHAU for availability.

Pipe fixing staples:Pipe fixing staples to fasten the pipe firmly to the Tacker sheet and to prevent the pipe from floating. For pipe dimensions 16mm or 20mm.

REHAU Edge insulation strips:To prevent sound and heat bridges. Made of closed cell polyethylene foam, with profiled wall, a self-adhesive strip on back and foil flaps. The tear-proof foil flaps with self-adhesive film base prevents moisture and water from the screed reaching the EPS floor insulation. Height 180mm, thickness 10mm, length 25m supplied in rolls.

REHAU Expansion joint profile:To provide a thermal break between adjoining heated screeds and/or controlled zones and to form permanently elastic joints between screed fields. Self-adhesive base to ensure secure retention on the REHAU insulation layer. Height 100mm, thickness 10mm, length 1200mm.

1.20 REHAU manifoldManifolds shall be installed at a location approved by the Architect. The number of manifold outlets shall correspond to the number of circuits served by that manifold.

7 INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING

1.23 InstallationMake sure installation area is fully cleared, flat even floor and surface free of irregularities. Co-ordinate with builder at shop drawing stage to identify all construction joints and saw cuts with concrete floors. Install the manifold straight at the designated position. Ensure the area for installation remains dry and weathertight by incorporating a dampproof membrane in the floor slab. Lay insulation to the total area of the installation, with edge insulation on all internal and external wall lines. If the floor construction is a two part slab with the walls already in place, edge insulation is required around the walls to prevent heat loss up the walls and to allow the screed for expansion.

Confirm suitable insulation material and thickness with REHAU before installation of UFH/C. Lay Tacker sheets tightly butted up to each other over substrate with foil overlapping adjacent sheet. Ensure printed foil faces upwards and the grid lines up across the joints. Stagger the joints as in a brick laying pattern. Tape down foil overlaps so no water will penetrate through the insulation. Fix down pipes to the Tacker sheet with specially designed Tacker staples fixed with a REHAU Tacker staple gun to ensure a secure fixing on the Tacker sheet. Staples are specific to the pipe size (grey staples for 16mm pipe and black staples for 20mm pipe). When fixing the pipe, staples should be positioned at a maximum of 400mm centres along the pipe. Mark all heated and non-heated areas and floor joints on the floor area. Assemble the REHAU expansion joint profile.

Pipework LayoutPipework fixed onto the insulation board to REHAU's recommendations. Lay pipes in a continuous length from the manifold in the pre-designed configuration. REHAU fittings can be embedded into concrete if agreed with designer. Fittings to be wrapped with PVC tape. Pipes start and finish at the manifold position. Mark the name of each circuit on the corresponding manifold outlet. All coils in floors shall be installed strictly in compliance with the requirements of the structural engineer and in accordance with the recommendations of REHAU for concrete floor heating applications. Piping shall be installed completely free of twists, warps or buckles. Screed height should provide a minimum thickness of 45mm above the crown of the pipework. Depending on structural loads the screed thickness must eventually be increased.

Conduit SleevingSleeve all flow pipes with REHAU conduit sleeving where the pipe enters and returns from screed/ concrete for the first metre to REHAU requirements. Sleeve across construction joints in floor. When installing pipe in door frames or through walls install a section of corrugated sleeving in this area to allow free movement of the pipe.

Connection to main supply and return linesProvide total flow rates and head losses for each manifold to the contractor of the main supply and return lines to enable them to design pump sizes, pipe dimensions and all other components required to render the system fully operational. The connection of the UFH/C system to the main supply and return pipes is the duty of the mechanical contractor.

1.24 Filling and Pressure TestingPressure test the system with water before the slab is laid to ensure all joints are watertight and no damage has occurred to the pipe during installation. In case of freezing conditions, add antifreeze to avoid freezing of the water in the pipes. Make sure antifreeze is suitable for PEX and brass materials. Allow for pressure testing of the underfloor heating pipe circuits to 600kPa. Lay the slab as soon as possible, in good contact to the pipes, without any airpockets, after laying the pipe circuits and completion of a pressure test. Leave pipe circuits under pressure until concrete is cured. Provide signed and witnessed pressure testing protocol.

1.25 Initial Warm-UpAllow the concrete to dry for 3 weeks. Balance the system via the valves on the manifold to achieve an even flow and heat up. Start the warm-up procedure according with BS EN 1264 and REHAU requirements. Provide signed and witnessed warm-up protocol.

1.26 CommissioningEnsure the complete central heating system, including main supply circulation pump and radiators if present, is working. Based on the real pipe length noted during laying of the pipework, adjust each circuit slowly via the valves on the manifold to ensure an even flow and heat up is achieved (hydraulic balancing). Provide commissioning certificate.

Run the system for at least two weeks before the floor covering is finally laid. For floor coverings use adhesive suitable for temperatures up to 40ºC.

1.34 REHAU RAUFIX systemRAUFIX rails:Rails made of impact-resistant and highly stable polypropylene, CFC, HFC and PVC free. With barbs and pins, or alternatively flat bars with molded connectors, to securely hold the pipe and to prevent the pipe from floating. Rails can be connected and provide a pipe spacing of 50mm and multiples thereof. Suitable for REHAU pipes 16 to 20mm.Rail length 1000mm, width 50mm, height 27mm, pipe lift 5mm.

RAUFIX retaining pins:Fixing pins made of polypropylene to fasten the RAUFIX rails to the insulation sheet. Length 50mm, tip distance 20mm.

REHAU Edge insulation strips:To prevent sound and heat bridges. Made of closed cell polyethylene foam, with profiled wall, a self-adhesive strip on back and foil flaps. 1.36 REHAU Flow temperature controlProvide flow temperature control for every manifold to maintain the supply temperature delivered to the underfloor heating circuits to the designed level. Use the following components:

Option 1: For brass manifoldsCompact mixer unit, pre-assembled pump module fitted with circulating pump, integral thermostat limit and mixing valve to control supply temperature, pump and flow temperature exceeding safety limits. Ready to fit to left or right side of REHAU brass manifolds.

Option 2: For polymer manifoldsUniversal flow temperature controller with pump, control valve, throttle valve, actuator, bypass, sensor and temperature limiter. 7 INSTALLATION AND COMMISSIONING

1.38 InstallationMake sure installation area is fully cleared, flat even floor and surface free of irregularities. Co-ordinate with builder at shop drawing stage to identify all construction joints and saw cuts with concrete floors. Install the manifold straight at the designated position.

Ensure the area for installation remains dry and weathertight by incorporating a dampproof membrane in the floor slab. Lay insulation to the total area of the installation, with edge insulation on all internal and external wall lines. If the floor construction is a two part slab with the walls already in place, edge insulation is required around the walls to prevent heat loss up the walls and to allow the screed for expansion.Screed insulation and damp proof membrane not part of REHAU product range and to be chosen according to separate specification.

Connect RAUFIX rails to form the desired length and lay parallel on the floor with a spacing of 1m. Secure RAUFIX rails with RAUFIX retaining pins with a spacing of 400mm. Connect one end of the pipe to the manifold and clip the pipe into the moulded connectors of the RAUFIX rail. Secure the pipe in areas of direction change with additional REHAU Tacker staples or RAUFIX retaining pins. Mark all heated and non-heated areas and floor joints on the floor area. Assemble the REHAU expansion joint profile.

Pipework LayoutPipework fixed onto the insulation board to REHAU's recommendations. Lay pipes in a continuous length from the manifold in the pre-designed configuration. REHAU fittings can be embedded into concrete if agreed with designer. Fittings to be wrapped with PVC tape. Pipes start and finish at the manifold position. All coils in floors shall be installed strictly in compliance with the requirements of the structural engineer and in accordance with the recommendations of REHAU for concrete floor heating applications. Piping shall be installed completely free of twists, warps or buckles.

Conduit SleevingSleeve all flow pipes with REHAU conduit sleeving where the pipe enters and returns from concrete for the first metre to REHAU requirements. Sleeve across construction joints in floor. When installing pipe in door frames or through walls install a section of corrugated sleeving in this area to allow free movement of the pipe.

Connection to main supply and return linesProvide total flow rates and head losses for each manifold to the contractor of the main supply and return lines to enable them to design pump sizes, pipe dimensions and all other components required to render the system fully operational. The connection of the CCT system to the main supply and return pipes is the duty of the mechanical contractor.

1.51 Filling and Pressure TestingPressure test the system with water before the concrete is poured to ensure all joints are watertight and no damage has occurred to the pipe during installation. In case of freezing conditions, add antifreeze to avoid freezing of the water in the pipes. Make sure antifreeze is suitable for PEX and brass materials. Allow for pressure testing of the underfloor heating pipe circuits to 600kPa. Concrete shall be poured as soon as possible, in good contact to the pipes, without any airpockets, after laying the pipe circuits and completion of a pressure test. Leave pipe circuits under pressure until concrete is cured. Provide signed and witnessed pressure testing protocol.

1.52 Initial Warm-UpAllow the concrete to dry for 3 weeks. Balance the system via the valves on the manifold to achieve an even flow and heat up. Start the warm-up procedure according with BS EN 1264 and REHAU requirements. Provide signed and witnessed warm-up protocol.

1.53 CommissioningEnsure the complete central heating system, including main supply circulation pump and radiators if present, is working. Based on the real pipe length noted during laying of the pipework, adjust each circuit slowly via the valves on the manifold to ensure an even flow and heat up is achieved (hydraulic balancing). Provide commissioning certificate.

Run the system for at least two weeks before the floor covering is finally laid. For floor coverings use adhesive suitable for temperatures up to 40ºC.
