Uhuru Design is the Brooklyn-based New American

furniture design firm specializing in bespoke residential

and high-end commercial furniture. Founded in 2004

by Rhode Island School of Design graduates Jason

Horvath and Bill Hilgendorf, Uhuru gained attention

for its sustainable approach, utilizing reclaimed and

found materials through a narrative design process. This

design approach generated collections currently in

the Smithsonian and Brooklyn Museums, positioning

Uhuru at the forefront of New American Design and

popularizing the “Brooklyn” aesthetic. Uhuru scaled

from bespoke residential to mass office furniture,

evolving with the growing New York and West Coast

startup scenes. Uhuru focuses on delivering accessible

New American Design to mission-driven clients across

residential, hospitality, fast casual, office, co-working,

architecture, and interior design landscapes.

Inspired by a minimal residential aesthetic, our power-ready conference tables are designed with the contract environment in mind. Surface and base elements are available in a variety of premium materials, finishes, and dimensions that combine to create a dynamic statement in any interior. We also designed the system with clever power and data integrations, with options for concealed tabletop ports and wire management hidden in the base. Keeping true to our roots, our conference tables are built from sustainably harvested hardwoods and are fabricated from recycled steel.

Uhuru’s simple and flexible electrical solutions bring UL Listed power and telecom connectivity to your conference table. Our custom designed electrical housing unit can receive four standard configurations with options consisting of 3-10 power outlets as well as up to 4 telecom plates.

Conference tables have a minimum of two core location options for integrated table-top power and data. Power can exit from the side profile legs for tables up to 12’ in length, or through the center leg for tables 12’ and longer. A universal wire chase is also available for scenarios where an end leg will not suffice and there is no center power leg.

The power units are mounted under the table’s surface and are hidden by a matching wood cover for a natural, seamless look. These custom designed units allow for use of large charging blocks (Mac etc.) without interfering with the closed lid. The undermount design highlights the surface matched lid that rests into a self-centering bracket with channels for cable access. Undermount duplex and USB power modules are also compatible.
