Music Celebration Service

“Martin Luther was born into a musical family. As a boy, he joined a

boys' choir & became proficient with the flute. Luther became known in

particular for three things: the doctrine of salvation by faith alone, the

belief that Scripture should be translated into the people's language, and

the birth of congregational singing. He felt that music was of God, not

of man. And he was determined to restore congregational singing in the

German language to the Church. So strong were his beliefs about music

and worship that he wrote these fiery words: ‘Next to the word of God,

the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls

our hearts, minds and spirits. A person who does not regard music as a

marvelous creation of God does not deserve to be called a human

being; he should be permitted to hear nothing but the braying of asses

and the grunting of hogs!’” — Center for Church Music, Songs & Hymns

SONG: “THY WORD”

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path. Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid, I think I've lost my way, Still You're there right beside me. Nothing will I fear, as long as you are near, Please be near me to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path. Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.

I will not forget, your love for me, And yet, I’ll forever be wandering. Jesus be my guide, hold me to Your side, I will love You to the end.

Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path. Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, And a light unto my path.

SONG: “JESUS LOVES ME”

Jesus loves me! This I know, For the Bible tells me so; Little ones to Him belong; They are weak, but He is strong.

Refrain: Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me! He who died, Heaven’s gate to open wide; He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in. REFRAIN

Jesus loves me! He will stay, Close beside me all the way; Thou hast bled and died for me, I will henceforth live for Thee. REFRAIN

PRAYERS: Each petition ends with “Hear Us, O God” followed by the singing of “Lord, Listen to Your Children Praying”. Gracious God, You created the heavens and the earth. You formed human beings in your image. We praise you for the gifts of marriage and family. Teach us to be good caretakers of your creation and faithful stewards of all our blessings. Hear Us, O God. SING... Gracious God, You sent your only Son into the World to redeem a fallen humanity. By His stripes we are healed. Clothe us daily with the righteousness of Jesus that we may confess our sins and be neighbor to the least of these. Hear Us, O God. SING... Gracious God, You heal our infirmities and comfort us in our losses. Grant mercy to all who are seeking recovery of health, and a song of praise to all who find their joy restored. Bless we pray: Tina Not, Jena Williams, Pam Hamman, Janet Sunde, Kathy & Waldemar Gies, Brian Boelter, Tryg Burgau, Laura Latham, Steve & Gina Larson, Russell Paxson, Sam & Nancy Kovach, and those we name before you… (NAMES). Hear Us, O God. SING... Gracious God, You are our fortress and our protector. We thank you for those who serve our country providing leadership, safety and freedom. Protect those who protect us, and grant us the gift of serving others. May our words and deeds be filled with music from above. Hear Us, O God. SING... Prayers conclude with Karen Salz singing the Lord’s Prayer.
