Confidentiality…………….In caring for students or staff members ,
information of private or personal nature could be shared.
It is extremely important that this information is kept confidential.
An exception to the rule may be on a “need to know” basis to safely treat/care for the person
(examples DCF->Emergency personnel->Principal-<SRO)

Confidentiality………..Every effort should be made to protect the privacy of
each student/staff member where illnesses or infestations may be embarrassing.
In talking to parents, it is important NOT to diagnose, state what “appears” to be the situation/facts:
“Your child injured his leg” “Your child’s temperature is 101 and throat is red”
NOT……“Your child’s leg is broken” “Your child has the flu” “Your child has measles”
If the parent is responding in a hostile manner or doesn’t understand the information, obtain current contact info and refer to nurse to explain further.

Abuse Reporting……….Everyone, including professionally mandatory
reporters, should contact the Florida Abuse Hotline when they know or have reasonable cause to suspect that a child or a vulnerable adult has been abused, abandoned, neglected, or exploited. The Abuse Hotline Counselor will determine if the information provided meets legal requirements to accept a report for investigation.

report is made, contact school nurse for follow up .
