The Past & Present of the Congo Project Overview Project Overview During this project, you will work with a team of classmates who share your interest in a selfselected topic related to the Congo. As a team you will be formulating questions, completing research, writing informative essays, creating a viral awareness campaign, and publishing a website. Your goal will be explain the realities of life in the DR of Congo and explain the historical developments that led to them. Phase I: Group Research 1. Formulate Essential Questions (Level 1, 2, & 3 Questions) 2. Use online research and materials from class to answer your questions. a. OPVL Source Analysis Phase 2: Informative Writing 1. Each individual will write an informative essay related to your topic. Each essay in your group will be unique. 2. Group editing of essays. Phase 3: Viral Campaign & Website 1. Using information from your research and essays, create a website designed to promote awareness about your selected topic. a. Professionally Formatted Website b. A “What You Can Do” Section which includes information on charities and other groups already working on your topic (if they exist). 2. Create a Viral Social Media Campaign designed to bring attention to your website and topic. Assessment You will be assessed on a total of 6 standards during this project… Informative Writing (Focus/Thesis, Use of Evidence, Social Studies Writing) 21 st Century Life Skills OPVL Source Analysis (Main Claim & Source Analysis) Due Dates Due Dates will be communicated clearly throughout the course of the unit.
