Semester grade review letters CFA Students and Parents – CFA semester grade review letters were distributed to ALL CFA students during their CFA Warrior Times last week. The semester grade review letters will

let students know if they are meeting the academic expectations as outlined in the CFA Handbook. To be in good academic standing within the CFA program, each student must maintain a GPA of 2.7 or higher, and must earn a grade of “B- or higher” in the CFA

discipline class. Students will have received one of three letters – that they are EXCEEDING expectations;

that they are MEETING expectations; or that they are BELOW expectations. PARENTS – please ask your students which letter they received and make sure you read their letter too!

If your student has received a letter that states they are NOT MEETING EXPECTATIONS, this means that your student has been placed on ACADEMINC

PROBATION for the spring semester 2017. Parents and students must sign this letter and return it to their students’ CFA teacher or to Ms. Pippert in the CFA Office by

Monday, February 27. To be sure that you receive this letter, we have also mailed a copy of this letter home to you. All students who are not meeting expectations will be meeting with Dr. Poxon and Ms. Johnson in the next few weeks to discuss strategies to improve

their grades and to get back on the right track! Students on academic probation have until the end of the year – June – to show IMPROVEMENT in their academic record. If sufficient progress is shown, they will be removed from the probationary

status. If no progress is shown, parents and students will have an additional conversation with Dr. Poxon and Ms. Johnson at the end of the year.

Please note that all students placed on ACADEMIC PROBATION are not eligible to attend any CFA-related field trips or special activities, with the exception of any trips that are

already paid for, such as the NYC trip or the Dance Festival trip. But they will not be able to participate in any future field trip opportunities for the remainder of the spring semester. Additionally, seniors who are placed on probation are facing the possibility of

NOT performing in the Senior Showcase if no progress is shown in the 3rd/4th marking periods.

If you have any questions about the CFA academic/grading policy, please contact Dr. Poxon via e-mail or call the CFA Office (228-2718).

CFA Spring Showcase Rehearsal Information is listed below for ALL CFA THEATRE and DANCE Students – and the MUSICAL THEATRE SCHEDULE is coming soon. Parents and Students – please mark these times in your calendars, planners, phones, etc. Also – please remember that students are REQUIRED as per the CFA Handbook to attend these rehearsals. All of these rehearsals and performances are part of the CFA curriculum and are GRADED events. Students – it is EASY to get SUPER GREAT showcase grades if you show up for rehearsal on time, you are prepared, you have good attitudes and you are doing your best! Also – the FCFA is providing snacks before the rehearsals on Monday-Thursday. See the SIGN UP GENIUS (in the FCFA Corner of this Newsletter!) for the nights the FCFA is planning to

Page 8: CONGRATULATIONS HHS DRAMA CLUB for a GREAT OPNENING …blogs.henrico.k12.va.us/cfa/files/2017/03/March-3... · 03/03/2017  · Poxon via e-mail or call the CFA Office (228-2718)

provide students with something to eat before rehearsals. The menu can also be found in the SIGN UP GENIUS. As always, students may PACK/BRING their own food to eat during the snack time if they have dietary concerns, but NO FOOD may be delivered to students at rehearsals. AND STUDENTS MAY NOT LEAVE CAMPUS TO GET FOOD EITHER!!! Please respect this policy and expectation – thank you parents and other family members - and please contact Dr. Poxon if you have any questions about this.

And, thanks to our WONDERFUL FCFA for providing snacks/small meals to our students!

SPRING SHOWCASE AFTER SCHOOL PROCEDURES FOR SNACKS & REHEARSALS – parents, we need your help with this procedure as well! CFA Students and Parents – the FCFA very generously provides snacks for our students prior to our rehearsals. This tradition gives our students a chance to unwind and socialize before rehearsal and to give them some “fuel” to make it through rehearsal. However, please keep in mind the following PROCEDURES concerning snacks:

Students will report to their CFA classroom directly after school for attendance. Your CFA teachers will then escort you to the Main Commons for the snacks. DO NOT GO TO THE MAIN COMMONS UNLESS YOU ARE WITH YOUR CFA CLASS!

Students may NOT leave campus after school to get snacks. We are responsible for you and have to know where you are at ALL TIMES! If you are caught leaving campus, you will be written up.

Parents may NOT bring additional food after school during snack time/rehearsal.

Students – if you do not like/cannot eat the food that is provided, you may pack your own snack to eat after school. Please pack something that non-perishable – such as peanut butter sandwich, granola or protein bars, fruit, etc. REMEMBER – parents MAY NOT BRING any food to you at snack time/rehearsal.

Remember to thank the FCFA for doing this for you! ATTENTION ALL CFA THEATRE STUDENTS!!! Here is your SPRING SHOWCASE TECH WEEK REHEARSAL SCHEDULE!! In the next few weeks, I will be providing information regarding another source of fund-raising for the FCFA. We will be able to earn $ by having our parents AND students participate in manning Papa John’s Pizza booths at events such as the Richmond International Raceway NASCAR races and Innsbrook Music Events. This is a great way that everyone can help! Be on the lookout for more information.

If you have any questions regarding the FCFA or would like to make suggestions

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES

Have You Filled a Bucket Today? Sunday, March 19th 2:00 pm Children’s Theatre of Virginia at Willow Lawn Written and directed by Scott Wichmann Music by Jason Marks Based on the play "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?" and book "Bucket Filling Fairy" by Ann Marie Gardinier Halstead Originally based on the book by Carol McCloud Bucket filling is a metaphor for doing caring things for others - filling their “buckets,” and ultimately results in personal self-esteem. The concept of bucket filling is now used in schools across the world to teach students how easy and rewarding it is to spread kindness and caring as a deterrent to bullying behavior. HAVE YOU FILLED A BUCKET TODAY? THE MUSICAL! is the story of Trey, a 4th grader who learns about bucket filling with help from his new friends at summer camp. This upbeat, family-friendly musical is a fun and effective way for kids to learn about kindness and how to prevent bullying. Following the show there will be a book signing with author Ann Marie Gardinier Halstead and a meet & greet with the actors! ALL TICKETS $5 for this one-time public performance. To learn more about bringing this play to your school or organization, visit out site:http://va-rep.org/tour/inschool.html
