Congratulations John O’Neill Lake Grace / Pingrup Football Club honoured one of their own with the presentation of a Life Membership to John O‘Neill. Johno‘s love of football began in 1963, when at the ripe old age of 6 he started playing football at Pingaring Primary school. There were many quarters of football over the years; joining the navy in 1971 didn‘t stop him as he played for the navy in the Fremantle Junior competition and also played in the WA Combined services team. After spending time in the Eastern States John was cleared to play for Lake Grace in 1977. He was part of the winning teams for the Great Southern Carnival and the B section of the Wesfarmers carnival. In 1981 Johno played in the Lake Grace Grand Final side and was voted best on Ground. There was some back and forward between Lake Grace and Newdegate over the years before John put on the coaches hat for Lake Grace‘s A side in 1993. Beside coaching seniors, juniors and association teams; Johno has been involved with the Central Great Southern Junior Football Council, the Central Great Southern Football Development Trust, the Central Great Southern Junior Colts; has organised the Great Southern Colts Carnival and has been President of the Lake Grace / Pingrup Football Club. Current Club President, Royce Taylor, said the Life Membership is a much deserved accolade for John O‘Neill for the many years of service he has put into football; particularly for his enthusiasm in developing and mentoring the colts and juniors.

Editorial Well Jayne and I had a lovely time swanning around Fremantle for a week while Cheryl beavered away getting
the last Lakes Link done. Not that Jayne and I had too much leisure as we grabbed the opportunity to do four days worth of workshops as well as attend the two day conference. At our formal dinner (don‘t know about Jayne but I was scratching around the wardrobe looking for something suitable to wear) David Wirrapunda was a very inspirational guest speaker. With up to 170 committee and staff members attending the conference it was a perfect opportunity to catch up with familiar faces, make some new friends and share ideas. The Director of the Community Development Network, Debbie Rice, was quite pleased to be sharing the dinner table with the daughter of THAT famous artist, Kerrie Argent...not that we were doing too much name dropping.
We have elected to run the Licensed Manager‘s Accredited workshop on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd October. The RSA will be from 6pm to 9pm on the Friday evening, while the Managers workshop will run all day on Saturday 23rd. If we can get more than 10 doing the course there will be a significant reduction in cost. Please make the most of this opportunity to do this workshop locally.
Have had a couple of people show an interest in doing their forklift ticket. Is anyone else interested? If so please register your interest with the Lake Grace Community Resource Centre on 9865 1470.

Western Australia is renowned for some of the most spectacular wildflower displays in the world and each year the Lake Grace region hosts a blaze of brilliant colours and lush scents. A beautiful new guidebook to this unique local flora was launched in Lake Grace last Friday. Flourish – Native Flora of the Lake Grace Shire is the first guidebook to document the indigenous plants to be found in the 10,000 square kilometre area that is the Shire of Lake Grace. Written by Elsie Bishop and Annie Slarke, Flourish provides bushwalkers and wildflower enthusiasts with detailed information, illustrations and coloured photographs to identify local plants. Mrs Bishop and Mrs Slarke, who also provided illustrations for the book, are members of a Rare Flora Group and conceived the idea for the book after writing a series of bushland articles for the local newspaper. ―We felt the articles and the book would be a good way of educating people about the importance of our local flora,‖ said Mrs Slarke. Writer Sarah Allen and designer Melissa Cugley completed the team, and local photographers contributed photographs making it a local production. ―This guidebook is a fine example of local talent and was all produced locally except for printing‖, said Shire of Lake Grace Chief Executive Officer, Sean Fletcher. ―It brings together the knowledge and skills of different generations with the same common interest – a passion for conservation and the exceptional flora of our district.‖ The publication is a Shire of Lake Grace project and one of thirteen flood recovery projects funded by
Lotterywest. The flora book project was prioritised with other initiatives for the Visitor Information Centre and tourism development. In officially launching the book, Keith Bradby, Coordinator of the ecological organization Gondwana Link, spoke of the unique environment of south-western Australia. The Shire of Lake Grace is in one of the world's top 34 biodiversity hotspots. This means this area has exceptional concentrations of some of the most diverse and unique flora in the world; however they are undergoing exceptional loss of habitat. Gondwana Link works to restore and reconnect country across south-western Australia, from the woodlands of the drier interior to the tall wet forests in the far south-west corner. Mr Bradby spoke of the important links between people and bushland, and the potential of guidebooks such as Flourish to foster these links and inform communities. Flourish – Native Flora of the Lake Grace Shire by Elsie Bishop and Annie Slarke is available from Lake Grace Shire Visitor Information Centre.

MATERIALS
Plastic cool drink bottles, cap included
Scissors or Stanley knife
Pole or rod to prop the bottle up on
PROCESS Find some plastic cool drink bottles—both the small and large types will work, as long as they have smooth sides. Using scissors or a Stanley knife, carve a longitudinal slit down the body of the bottle. Try to get the edges perfectly parallel as this will make a better sound. Put the cap on the bottle so the sound doesn‘t escape and mount the bottle upside down (via tape, glue etc) on a rod or pole in a windy position. You can experiment with different sounds by varying the size of the slit between 8 and 20cm in height, and 6 to 17mm in width. Different types of bottles will also vary slightly in the note they produce. For those that are really keen, the same technique (though there‘s a bit more to making the incision) can be used on bamboo poles, which make a more sophisticated sound.
It’s windy in Lake Grace—especially in October. So this year we’re going to make good use of it. October 2010 will be host to Art in Motion: driven by wind, a celebration of the amazing power of wind. So when that Albany doctor roars up in the evening, expect to see kites, flags, windsocks, spinners, streamers and more covering the town—ready to harness that cool breeze (or gale). Anyone can take part. Here’s just one idea...
How to:
Screw the lid on tight so the sound doesn’t escape.
Cut a slit down the length of the bottle. Generally, a shorter, fatter slit makes a deeper sound and a long, skinny slit makes a higher pitch. But it will vary depending on wind, thickness and rigidity of the bottle etc.
Don’t forget to decorate your bottles with paint or markers.

Members of the Lake Grace Development Association and local businesses held a meeting at the Sportsman‟s Club with the Living Communities Pilot Program Executive Director Greg Winning, on Tuesday 7th September.
It was decided at the meeting that we will proceed with Living Communities and we need not only businesses involved but a wide range of community members. The town of Lake Grace is one of four districts where the program will be piloted in WA. The aims of the group are: a) identifying a new purpose beyond agriculture for the town. b) building and connecting community networks. c) implementing an economic audit to identify leaks in the local economy that can be filled by locally owned enterprises and; d) supporting entrepreneurs who identify business opportunities identified from the audit, to increase their success rate.
It builds resilience in the local community by focusing on decreasing economic outflows and identifying new inflows. It builds social capital through a bottom-up approach that requires co-operation and participation from all sectors of community.
The project is a community driven six phase process designed to facilitate rural resilience, the phases are; 1. Awareness and connecting of community: including businesses, community groups, residents and local government. A business expo event is the peak event in this phase. 2. Imagining Possibilities: A visioning workshop enables the
community to be involved in thinking about a new purpose. 3. Economic Audit: Money flow surveys to identify leaks in the local economy and an asset inventory of important financial, social, human, physical and natural community assets. 4. An economists report to interpret the data. 5. Re-imagining Possibilities: The aspirations of phase two are combined with the realities of phase three and four to focus the community on achievable goals and sharpen the definition of a future purpose beyond agriculture. 6. Enterprise Month: Local entrepreneurs use the data as a base for creating new enterprises, work on business plans, marketing strategies, gaining financial information and work with mentors.
The Lake Grace Development Association needs your support to make Lake Grace become a more resilient and viable community for the future.
The next Living Communities meeting is going to be held at Rosie’s on Thursday 21st October at 7pm at a small cost. RSVP is essential for catering purposes.
It is an informal discussion to work on two exercises:
1) A group SWOT to find the possible strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats the group may face.
2) An exercise where individuals in the group get to share with the members what they want to get out of the process. It's a conversation amongst the people wanting to become involved.

Speeding Can Really Hurt: Last week we issued a motorist with a $1000 speeding infringement notice. It also attracted 7 demerit points. One would expect that the receiving motorist would have been a tad annoyed at such a large fine but in fact he was very relieved that the detected speed wasn‘t a kilometre higher because that would have resulted in him being charged with ‗reckless driving‘ and his motor vehicle being seized. If the reckless charge and seizure had occurred the costs would have exceeded the $1000 fine several times over along with a licence suspension. You‘ll probably agree that the motorist got off lightly considering that you and/or members of your family could have been using the same road at the time and therefore exposed to that dangerous behaviour. In any event I thought it might be timely to let everyone know what the penalties for specific speeds are these days:
Speed Excess - Penalty - Demerit Points 1 – 9kph - $75 - 0 10 – 19kph - $150 - 2 20 – 29kph - $300 - 3 30 – 40kph - $700 - 5 41 – 44kph - $1000 - 7 45kph & over - Charge Reckless Driving & Vehicle Impound - Court Brief
I remember seeing the late Mr Kerry Packer on television years ago when he was required to front a parliamentary committee into tax avoidance and said words to the effect, ―I‘ll pay the taxes I‘m required to pay but I don‘t think they (the Government) are doing that good a job that I need to tip them‖. The above fines (taxes) are very ‗avoidable‘. Sheep Stealing - Waybills There has been considerable stock theft, particularly sheep stealing, going on for sometime now. For that reason ‗waybills‘ have come under intense scrutiny and it has been discovered that the vast majority of waybills involving sheep movement are not compliant with the Stock (Identification and Movement) Regulations 1972. In regards to sheep, ear tag numbers must be recorded on waybills. Terms such as ‗various‘ or ‗mixed‘ are contrary to the regulations. In the last week we have stopped two smaller vehicles moving sheep and found both waybills were lacking in the required details. We are obliged to report these matters and penalties of $3000 may apply. Newdegate Field Days The 2010 Newdegate Field Days, (and my first), have come and gone with barely a hitch from a policing perspective. I was very impressed with the team effort displayed by the local residents and other stakeholders in bringing the whole event together. I was equally impressed with those who stood around in tent city on a freezing Wednesday night trying to look like they were enjoying a cold beer in the name of networking. One action that police felt the need to take, was to place a yellow sticker on a particular motorised vehicle getting around the field day grounds, although the name of the issuing officer was difficult to read. A couple of days later I was approached by our resident sparky, Mr. Stubberfield, who inquired, ―So exactly where does one take an unregistered golf buggy to get a yellow sticker removed‖? What can I tell you Allan - it‘s a left hand drive vehicle so try America. Winter Sports Presentation Nights Both Newdegate and Lake Grace held their Winter Sports Presentation Night over the weekend. Newdegate on Friday night and Lake Grace on Saturday night. From a policing point of view I‘d like to thank all those who attended the functions for depriving us of any drink driving prosecutions and for depriving the local hospital of any additional work. I‘d also like to thank all those we stopped for RBTs for being so cooperative and encouraging of our efforts to try to make sure everyone got home safely. One thing we noted on Saturday night was that obviously the footwear that some of the girls chose was purely from a fashion point of view judging by the number who were walking home barefooted with shoes in hand. Speaking of footwear, and just to prove once again that we don‘t practice any form of discrimination whatsoever, we even let off with a caution a gentlemen wearing outrageous shoes - isn‘t that right Terry. Special mention must be made of the chivalrous young man who we came across on Stubbs Street near the hotel heading for Clark Ave who was giving his female companion a piggyback home. Brownie points indeed we reckon!

Misplaced Police Property One of the officers from the station who shall remain nameless (it wasn‘t me and it wasn‘t Steve) was doing a job out at Newdegate and managed to misplace our station‘s black camera case. He believes someone has picked it up from a track at the end of Collier Road where he put it down while taking some photos for evidence. If you picked it up for safe keeping we would appreciate a call or alternatively it can be dropped at the Telecentre for us to collect.
_________________________________________ On a personal note my special thanks to club president, Danielle, and the girls of the Lake Grace Hockey Club for having my 16 year old daughter, Kelsie, along as a guest at their windup last Friday week. Kelsie had come down from Perth to spend the Father‘s Day weekend with me and it was very kind of the club to make her feel so welcome in town. The Camera Club, in conjunction with the 100 Year Committee would like to take photos of businesses and their staff outside their premises, also of staff going about their normal working day.
As you can imagine it is a mammoth job for the Camera Club to achieve alone. The photos are a great way of recording the businesses, town‘s people and farming families of today. The Camera Club would like to compile a book for future generations, giving them a pictorial of what Lake Grace looked like and who lived and worked in and around Lake Grace in 2011.
We would really appreciate it if owners could arrange to take the photos inside your business of your staff working. They don‘t all have to be serious hard working ones! But no rude ones please, otherwise they may find the photos on the community board!!!
We will try and come around to do the outside photos of the business with staff standing in front of the name of the business, however, if you can organize someone to do this for us it would be a
great help.
If you would like the Camera Club to take the photos, or need to know more information, please contact either Cheryl Chappell 9865 4058, Michelle Dunham 9865 3054 or Trish Medlen on 9865 120.
We ask that you be patient with us as we have never done anything like this before and most of the club members are amateur photographers.

The geologist at Princeton University is referring to a jumble of fossilised blobs, discovered on Australia‘s Flinders Ranges, which he believes are the remains of ancient sponges. Maloof‘s team dated the fossils to 650 to 640 million years ago – making them around 90 million years older than the next oldest animal fossils. Sponges are the most primitive living animals. Genetic studies have suggested they evolved long before the Cambrian explosion of 542 million years ago, which saw the sudden origin of a huge diversity of animal life. But until now, there was no fossil evidence to prove this. To identify the sponges, Maloof‘s team ground down a fist-sized lump of rock a fraction of a millimetre at a time, taking hundreds of images in the process to create a three dimensional map of the fossil. This revealed repeated asymmetrical shapes, and criss-crossed with millimetre wide canals, which Maloof says are sponge fragments mixed up with a bacterial stromatolite mat (Nature Geoscience, DOI: 10.1038/nge0934). Martin Brazier of the University of Oxford says the find supports his theory that life kick-started ―Snowball Earth‖, a few million years after the sponges were around a glaciation extended to the equator, wiping out large swathes of life. Brazier argues that in the absence of more complex creatures that can recycle debris, like worms, the carbon in early life forms got buried in a constantly growing carbon sink, sucking carbon dioxide out of the air and causing global cooling. Sponges would have contributed to such a cooling sink, he says. Brazier thinks Maloof‘s find is ―exciting‖, but cautions that the structures could equally belong to giant single-celled organisms. Autism Explosion: Why have the numbers of autism diagnoses increased seven-fold in recent decades? Part of the increase could be down to a trend for later parenthood in the west, yet half of the rise remains a mystery. A series of US studies by Peter Bearman of Columbia University in New York identified changes in diagnosis as the most important factor. He estimates that a switch from diagnoses of mental retardation to autism accounts for 26 per cent of extra cases seen in California between 1993 and 2005. But a trend towards having children later in life also plays a part since older parents are more likely to give birth to a child with autism. Together with the increased awareness of the condition, this factor accounts for another 25 per cent of the increase. Environmental factors are the most likely cause of the remaining 50 per cent, although no definite candidates have been identified, says Tom Insel, director of the National Institute of Mental Health in Rockville, Maryland. ―These studies give me the feeling that there must be a true increase in the number of children affected,‖ Insel says. Alzheimer’s Key: Have the benefits of a test for Alzheimer‘s been overlooked? A biological ―signature‖
for diagnosing the disease from cerebrospinal fluid may be the key to new treatments. A study published in August found the protein signature in 90 per cent of 102 people with the disease, 72 per cent of 200 people with mild cognitive impairment and, crucially, 36 per cent of 114 people with no cognitive problems. While a potential test for Alzheimer‘s is important, just as crucial is the fact that anyone with the signature in the latter two groups could now be included in drug trials (Archiv es of Neurology, DOI: 10.1001/archneurol.2010.179). Despite millions of dollars of research, there are no drugs that can stop or slow Alzheimer‘s. Part of the reason is that by the time people are diagnosed and enter trials, it is already too late – Alzheimer‘s-related changes to the brain may start decades before symptoms appear. Identifying those at risk may be the key to finding a key. Moon Wrinkles: The moon is more active than was thought. Wrinkles on its surface show it shrank in the past billion years and may still be contracting. Apollo astronauts noticed these wrinkles, called ―Lobate scarps‖, near the equator 40 years ago. Now images from NASA‘s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter reveal 14 more, all over the moon‘s surface. The scarps probably formed as the moon cooled and contracted, says Thomas Watters of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC. This raisin-like shrinkage occurred no more than 1 billion years ago, based on the age of pre-existing small craters that the scarps run through (Science, DOI: 10.1126/science.1189590). The moon may be geologically active and still shrinking today,‖ says Watters. If so this might explain the mysterious moonquakes picked up by seismometers in the 1970‘s. Solar System slips back in time: Without celebrating a birthday, the solar system just got hundreds of thousands of years older. To deduce when its first solid grains formed, researchers analyse structures up to a centimetre across found in meteorites. Such ―inclusions‖ were created when gases cooled to form the sun and planets, and are among the oldest solids in the solar system. Now Audrey Bouvier at Arizona State University in Tempe, and colleagues, have analysed inclusions in a meteorite that fell to Earth in north-west Africa in 2004. Based on the extent to which uranium-238 and uranium-235 isotopes had decayed into their daughter isotopes lead-207 and lead-206, they say the solar system is 4.5682 billion years old. That‘s between 0.3 and 1.9 million years older than previous estimates, which relied on meteorites found in Kazakhstan in 1962 and Mexico in 1969 (Nature Geoscience, DOI: 10.1038/Ngeo0941). It may seem like a trivial distinction for something billions of years old, but it could make a difference when pinning down the conditions that led to the solar system‘s formation, says Bouvier, and those needed for other life-friendly planetary systems to form.

Launch of Flourish
I had the privilege to speak at the launch last Friday of the book Flourish — Native Flora of the Lake Grace Shire. The launch was held at the Lake Grace Visitor Centre with Keith Bradby as the key note speaker. The publication is a Shire of Lake Grace project and one of the thirteen flood recovery projects funded by Lotterywest. Keith is the Gondwana Link Coordinator and gave an excellent overview of the flora in this part of the world and how Flourish serves as an excellent reminder of the importance this flora serves. Authors Annie Slarke and Elsie Bishop also spoke providing an overview on what has obviously been a labour of love. These two ladies as members of the Newdegate Rare Flora Group gave a wonderful insight on what it took to pull Flourish together. Other members of the project team were also recognised including Sarah Allen, Melissa Cugley, Michelle Slarke, Grant and Trish Medlen and Ross Ramm.
Copies of Flourish — Native Flora of the Lake Grace Shire are available from the Lake Grace Shire Visitor Information Centre.
Wheatbelt Infrastructure Plan
The Shire President — Cr Andrew Walker and myself attended on 8th September the final forum on the development of the Wheatbelt Infrastructure Plan. The forum was attended by Brendon Grylls the Minister for Regional Development and Lands, Wendy Duncan Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister, members of the Wheatbelt Development Commission and representatives from the 43 Wheatbelt shires. The purpose of the Wheatbelt Infrastructure Plan is to prioritise the funding allocated under the Country Local Government Fund for key regional projects such as medium density housing including accommodation for the aged, local employees and others. For Lake Grace, the priority is a showcase or pilot program regarding aged housing. This project will be done in conjunction with the Shires of Dumbleyung and Kent.
Talk to Students at the Newdegate Primary School
I was invited to give a talk to students at the Newdegate Primary School on Monday regarding some aspects of ancient Aboriginal culture including the use of tools and some of the artefacts that have been found across the Shire. Principal of the Newdegate Primary School - Anne Webster invited me to speak to the students when she became aware that I had studied originally as an anthropologist and archaeologist (pre-historian). My areas of interest during this period of study included Aboriginal cultures, civilisations based on water and ancient agriculture.

Did you know that one in four young people are affected by mental illness?
The Australian Government, in partnership with the Western Australian Government is piloting a series of new drought reform measures (www.daff.gov.au/droughtpilot). The strategies range from farming assistance grants through to community building projects and social support services. eheadspace is one part of the social support services. The pilot region takes in some of the most remote communities in Western Australia, as well as several regional centres. 67 local government areas are included with an estimated 35,000 young people who may face mental health difficulties.
eheadspace falls under the umbrella of headspace – the National Youth Mental Health Foundation. eheadspace is an online resource which is staffed by experienced youth mental health professionals. These are psychologists, social workers, nurses or occupational therapists. The service is confidential, free and there are no restrictions on the number of times people can access eheadspace. The chat feature of eheadspace, allows people to talk one on one with a qualified youth mental health professional, and is open from 1-9pm WA time, 7 days per week.
Alternatively – people can email at any time with a response taking no more than two days.
People might use eheadspace if they:
want to chat about what is going on in their life and need advice
are worried about their mental health or feeling depressed or anxious
are feeling isolated or alone
are worried about their drug and/or alcohol use
are worried about a friend or a family member
The project is targeted towards people aged between 12 to 25 years and living within the Government‘s Drought Pilot Region in Western Australia. In order to access eheadspace, a computer with internet access is required and it is helpful to have broadband or at least a fairly fast connection.
Members of the community are encouraged to visit www.eheadspace.org.au if they are experiencing a difficult time.
Going through a tough time? eheadspace can help.

Residents of the Wheatbelt will help reshape the WA mental health system. Mental Health Commissioner Eddie Bartnik said statewide consultation forums will ensure proposed reforms reflect the needs of the community. ―Community feedback on the ‗WA Mental Health Towards 2020: Consultation Paper‘ will inform the ‗WA Mental Health Policy and Plan,‘‖ Mr Bartnik said. ―The policy and plan will be a significant document because it will articulate the state‘s vision and direction for mental health over the next decade. ―Minister for Mental Health Dr Graham Jacobs said at the release of the consultation paper in July that everyone, from government to industry and community,
should be involved in building mentally healthier communities. He urged people to have their say on the ideas set out in the consultation paper. The consultation paper was written following w i d e s p r e a d c o n s u l t a t i o n , l e d b y PricewaterhouseCoopers, which included people accessing mental health services, carers, service providers, government and non-government agencies, and the broader community. Copies can be downloaded from the Mental Health Commission website www.mentalhealth.wa.gov.au, by telephoning the commission on 6272 1200 or emailing [email protected] The deadline for submissions is September 29 2010.

Night watch Welcome to Night Watch for the period from midnight Friday September 17th to midnight Friday 1st October 2010. Night Watch is a guide to where you can find and view objects in the day and night sky with the naked eye (NE), binoculars (Bin) or telescope (Tele). Astronomy is looking up from a dark area.
EQUINOX: The Vernal (Spring) Equinox will occur at 11am on Thursday 23rd, when the Sun is directly overhead on the Equator with the Earth poles directly north and south. (This denotes the true start of spring). Also the Sun reappears at the south pole for 6 months and never sets.
On Sunday 19th Jupiter and Uranus will rise at the same time in Pisces at 6:06pm as Jupiter is passing to the front. Mercury and Saturn are now out of view. Mars on Wednesday 29th will be 6° north of Venus.
Our local star “THE SUN” shining at magnitude -26.72 in the Constellation of Virgo this fortnight will rise in the east and set in the west from 150.4 million km‟s on Thursday 23rd when the Sun is on the Equator. Never view the Sun with the naked eye or an optical instrument without a proper Solar Filter and read the instructions carefully if you must do so.
TWILIGHT on Saturday September 18th begins at 4:43am with evening twilight ending at 7:22pm on Saturday 25th morning twilight begins at 4:33am with evening twilight ending at 7:28pm. Morning twilight on Friday October 1st begins at 4:25am and evening twilight ending at 7:33pm.
The 90% MOON in Aquarius on Monday 20th at midnight will be 5° south (2 fingers at arms length) of Neptune in Capricornus. (Tele). On Tuesday 21st the 98% MOON in Capricornus will be at Apogee, furthest from Earth at 406,387 km‟s at 4:15pm in the East/north/east. The 100% FULL MOON will occur at 5:07pm on Thursday 23rd, reflecting light at magnitude -12.0 in Pisces at 406,000 km‟s from Earth, and at 7pm will be 6° north (about 2.1 fingers at arms length) of Uranus with Jupiter at 7° north. On Friday October 1st in Gemini, the 52% 1st quarter MOON will occur at 11:44am after setting at 10:53am, reflecting light from 380,000 km‟s from Earth at magnitude -6.2.
VENUS: The very bright planet shining at magnitude -4.7 in the Constellation of Virgo on Saturday 18th and may be found in the west at 7:30pm before setting in the West/south/west at 9:21pm on Friday 24th Venus will be at it‟s brightest at magnitude -4.81 and sets at 9:14pm. Venus on Sunday26th will be in the Constellation of Libra and sets at 9:13pm. On Wednesday 29th Venus will be 6° south of Mars (about 2 fingers at arms length). Venus on Friday October 1st sets at 9pm in the West/south/west, 56 million km‟s from Earth and is at about 20% illumination which will be best viewed through a telescope.
MARS: The red planet shines at magnitude +1.5 in Virgo on Saturday 18th and may be found just north of Venus and sets at 8:54pm in the West/south/west. On Saturday 25th Mars will set at 8:49pm. Mars on Tuesday 25th will be in the Constellation of Libra (The Scales), while on Wednesday 29th Mars will be 6° north of Venus. On Friday October 1st Mars will set at 8:45pm, 338 million km‟s from Earth as a small red disc.
JUPITER: The giant gas planet shines brightly at magnitude -2.9 in Pisces on Saturday 18th and will rise at 6:10pm in the east, while on Sunday Jupiter rises at 6:06pm the same time as Uranus as it moves ahead. On Tuesday 21st Jupiter will be at opposition at 8pm (Opposite side of the Earth to the Sun). Jupiter on Thursday 23rd at 7pm will be7 deg south of the 100% Full Moon. (Bin). On Saturday 25th Jupiter rises at 5:38pm. Jupiter on Friday October 1st will rise at 5:11pm at 594 million km‟s from Earth and will be in the sky all night and is very good viewing with any size telescope.
URANUS: The blue/green coloured gas planet shining at magnitude +5.7 in Pisces on Saturday 18th will rise at 6:11pm (just ahead of Jupiter), in the east and on Sunday Uranus rises the same time as Jupiter at 6:06pm and from then on rises later as Jupiter moves ahead. On Tuesday 21st Uranus will at midnight be at opposition at the opposite side of the Earth to the Sun. Uranus on Thursday 23rd at 7pm will be 6° south of the 100% Full Moon (too hard to view). On Saturday 25th Uranus rises at 5:42pm and on Friday October 1st at 5:17pm at 2.68 billion km‟s from Earth and is in the sky all night.
NEPTUNE: The grey green gas planet shining at magnitude +7.8 in the Constellation of Capricornus on Monday 20th will be 5° south of the 90% Moon (2 fingers at arms length) at midnight (hard to find). Neptune is easier to find from Monday 27th near the Aquarius border. On Friday October 1st Neptune is in the sky all night at 4.38 billion km‟s from Earth.
From Monday 21st when the Moon is rising later in the night you will find the Scorpion high in the north-west with Sagittarius following. Fairly high in the north will be Aquila the eagle and on the north horizon is Cygnus the Swan. The bright blue star Vega is in the North/north/west. On Friday October 1st Capricornus is high in the North/north/east, with Jupiter, Uranus and the Great square of Pegasus in the north/east just north of the tick shape of Pisces. Aquarius is to the east of Capricornus with the stars running in lines to the south which make up the water falling from the jug or pitcher. Grus the Crane is high in the south/east. Between Grus and the main stars of Aquarius is the Constellation of Pisces, Austrini The Southern Fish with the bright white star “Formalhaut” being the 18th brightest star in the night sky at magnitude +1.16 at 7.7 light years away and has a planet forming disc. In the early morning sky on Saturday 18th you will find the Constellations of Orion, Taurus, Canis Major and Gemini.
For finding all objects in the sky the use of a Planisphere is very handy as it shows the Constellations, stars with the horizons dates, times at latitude 35 deg. south for the southern countries.
Viewing through my 8 inch LX50 Schmidt telescope at my house is free of charge. Observations of the Sun during the day with the Moon day or night and at night the viewing of star clusters and nebula, also the pointing out of Constellations and the planets in view.

WASO on the Road brings music to the Wheatbelt School students in the Wheatbelt are in for a musical treat as three musicians from the West Australian Symphony Orchestra pack up their instruments and head inland for WASO on the Road. From Monday 13 September WASO musicians including Associate Principal Double Bass, Joan Wright, Principal Bass Clarinet, Alex Millier, and violist Nik Babic will spend five days travelling to schools in Northam, Cadoux, Kellerberrin, Goomalling and Lake Grace, conducting music workshops with children. This WASO on the Road tour will aim to reach over 500 children from Pre-Primary through to Year 8. This project is part of WASO‘s Discover! Education and Outreach program and it demonstrates the Orchestra‘s ability to contribute musically to the lives of students, many of whom may never get a chance to experience live classical music. WASO‘s visit to the Wheatbelt area will enable more Western Australians to have access to the talented musicians of the Orchestra and help make WASO an integral part of the musical life of this state.
The three musicians will give 40 to 50 minute classroom presentations, aimed at developing students‘ interest in classical music and the instruments of the orchestra. Each of the WASO musicians will demonstrate their instrument and talk about their life as a musician. Students will have the opportunity to listen, to observe and to try one or more of the instruments. The project is beneficial to both students and teachers and complements existing musical education programs. Chief Executive of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Craig Whitehead said, ―The WASO on the Road project provides students across Western Australia access to their Symphony Orchestra. The tour aims to entertain, educate and inspire students to develop their musical talents, and their appreciation and understanding of classical music.‖ The tour will reach a number of schools in the Wheatbelt area and has been made possible through Royalties for Regions Wheatbelt Regional Grants Scheme funding. The WASO on the Road tour will be in Lake Grace on Friday 17 September.

On Thursday 2nd September the Lake Grace Kindy held their annual Father‘s Night. This evening is held to give the fathers of the Kindy children the opportunity to come into the Kindy and experience as close as possible, a typical Kindy session. Each child gave their father an invitation to attend this special evening. It was wonderful to have the dads come along and interact with their children. The fathers joined in completing activities with their child. Some of the activities included; painting, puzzles, reading stories, using the white board, using play dough, making a colourful fish, building with the blocks, using the construction materials, completing a matching game and singing songs. We completed the evening with a small supper which the children assisted in making. It was really pleasing to see the smiles and hear the words of encouragement coming from the fathers to their children. It was equally rewarding to watch the
looks of adoration coming from the children towards their fathers. We are really fortunate to have such wonderful and supportive families living in Lake Grace. Thanks for such a great night Kindy dads.

Humour Lacking All Religion A very zealous soul-winning young preacher recently came upon a farmer working in his field. Being concerned about the farmer's soul the preacher asked the man, "Are you labouring in the vineyard of the Lord my good man?" Not even looking at the preacher and continuing his work the farmer replied, "Naw, these are soybeans." "You don't understand," said the preacher. "Are you a Christian?" With the same amount of interest as his previous answer the farmer said, "Nope my name is Jones. You must be looking for Jim Christian. He lives a mile south of here." The young determined preacher tried again asking the farmer, "Are you lost?" "Naw! I've lived here all my life," answered the farmer. "Are you prepared for the resurrection?" the frustrated preacher asked. This caught the farmer's attention and he asked, "When's it gonna be?" Thinking he had accomplished something the young preacher replied, "It could be today, tomorrow, or the next day." Taking a handkerchief from his back pocket and wiping his brow, the farmer remarked, "Well, don't mention it to my wife. She don't get out much and she'll wanna go all three days." The Big Debate Back ten centuries ago, the Pope decided that all the Muslims had to leave Jerusalem. Naturally there was a big uproar from the Muslim community. So the Pope made a deal. He would have a religious debate with a member of the Muslim community. If the Muslim won the debate, all the Muslims could stay. If the Pope won, all the Muslims would have to leave. The Muslims realised that they had no choice. They looked around for a champion who could defend their faith, but no one wanted to volunteer. It was too risky. But they finally picked their representative, an old Mullah who unknowingly agreed, without knowing what he was getting himself into. He agreed only on the condition that neither side be allowed to talk but communicate by miming. The Pope agreed. The day of the great debate came. The Mullah and the Pope sat opposite each other for a full minute before the Pope raised his hand and showed three fingers. The Mullah looked back at him and raised his middle finger. The Pope waved his fingers in a circle around his head. Mullah Nasruddin pointed to the ground and stamped his foot. The Pope pulled out a wafer and a glass of wine. Mullah pulled out an apple. The Pope stood up and said, 'I give up. This man is too good. The Muslims can stay.' An hour later, the cardinals were all around the Pope asking him what happened. The Pope said: "First I held up three fingers to represent the Trinity. He responded by holding up one finger to remind me that there was still one God common to both our religions. Then I waved my finger around me to show him that God was all around us. He responded by pointing to the ground
and stamping on it, showing that God was also right here with us. I pulled out the wine and the wafer to show that God absolves us from our sins. He pulled out an apple, reminding me of the first sin. He had an answer for everything. What could I do?" Meanwhile, the Muslim community had crowded around the Mullah in total astonishment. "What happened?" they asked. "Well‖, said the Mullah, "First he said to me that we Muslims had three days to leave Jerusalem. I told him up yours. Then he told me that this whole city would be cleared of Muslims. I said none of is us leaving this land!" "And then?" asked a woman. "He took out his lunch and I took out mine," said the Mullah. Seventeenth Chapter A Sunday school teacher was giving her class the assignment for the next week. "Next Sunday," she said, "we are going to talk about liars, and in preparation for our lesson I want you all to read the Seventeenth Chapter of Mark." The following week, at the beginning of the class meeting, the teacher said, "Now then, all of you who have prepared for the lesson by reading the Seventeenth Chapter of Mark, please step to the front of the room." About half the class rose and came forward. "The rest of you may leave," said the teacher, "these students are the ones I want to talk to. There is no Seventeenth Chapter in the Book of Mark." Helping To Clean The Dishes Just after the maid had been fired, she took five bucks from her purse and threw it to Fido, the family dog. When asked why by her former employer, she answered, "I never forget a friend. This was for helping me clean the dishes all the time!" Your Daughter is Pregnant A mother took her daughter to the doctor and asked him to give her an examination to determine the cause of the daughter's swollen abdomen. It only took the doctor about two seconds to say, "Gimme a break, lady! Your daughter is pregnant!" The mother turn red with fury, and she argued with the doctor that ‗her‘ daughter was a good girl, and would ‗never‘ compromise her reputation by having sex with a boy. The doctor faced the window and silently watched the horizon. The mother became enraged and screamed, "Quit looking out the window! Aren't you paying attention to me?" "Yes, of course I am paying attention, ma'am. It's just that the last time this happened, a star appeared in the east, and three wise men came. I was hoping they'd show up again, and help me figure out who got your daughter pregnant!"

It won‟t be long before the new season is upon us. Our AGM was held August 26th. We would like to thank the out going and on going office bearers and welcome the new ones.
President – Linda Hunt, Vice President – Genni Curtin, Secretary – still vacant at this time, Treasurer/Registrar – Yvette Downey, Committee members – Maria Taylor, Theresa Naisbitt, Alison Medlen, Coaches – Terri Parker (junior coach), Senior coach position still vacant.
Have you noticed the new shed at the pool? The new club rooms have finally been erected. The next step is to fit it out so that we have a working kitchen facility and suitable storage area. It will be terrific to have a space that we can call our own again.
We are looking forward to the 2010/2011 season starting again. We are hoping to encourage as many swimmers to join the club this year. The swimming club promotes fun, fitness and competition. The club is hoping to run early in the season a „Dive and Try‟ swim meet which will be advertised through local schools and clubs. The annual swimming camp and clinic for our region will once again be held near the beginning of the season. In the past it has been held in Albany but this year it will take place in Narrogin. This is a great opportunity for swimmers to learn some new swimming skills from Perth coaches and also socialise with other swimmers from the surrounding areas. Keep an eye out for these events advertised a bit closer to the start of the season.
Coaches Needed – 2010/2011 Importantly, we are in search of some enthusiastic people who would like to take on the role of swimming coach. Club training involves two afternoons per week during the school term. We need at least one other swimming coach. A huge thank you to Terri Parker who will continue in her role as junior coach. The club is willing to organise and pay for a coaching course for those that are interested. There is a possibility of the coaching course coinciding with the swimming camp held in Narrogin near the beginning of the season. Phone Yvette Downey 9865 3046 or Linda Hunt 9871 9021 to express your interest.
Swim Australia Teacher of Competitive Swimming Coaching Course
Course covers teaching progressions including starts, turns, finishes, rules, fault identification and correction of freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and butterfly. It also covers teaching progressions of individual medleys, including turns, rules and strategies, swimming squad organisation and management.
Why not become a Lake Grace Swimming Club coach? 7 hour coaching course arranged and paid for Support from club and past coaches Child care can be arranged during club training, two
afternoons per week (if this is an issue) Great opportunity for enthusiastic person

In animal shelters, the surest sign of spring isn't watching crocuses bloom or hearing robins chirp – it's seeing litter after litter of unwanted kittens and puppies pouring through the doors. The spring and summer months are known as "kitten and puppy season" because they are prime breeding times for dogs and cats. It's crucial to have animals desexed now before more puppies and kittens are born into a world that already lacks good homes. Across Australia, animal shelters have no choice but to euthanise tens of thousands of dogs and cats every year because there aren't enough good homes for them. Nationwide from 2008 to 2009, the RSPCA euthanised 59.7 per cent of the total cats it received and 31.8 per cent of the total dogs. Every new
kitten or puppy contributes to the dog and cat overpopulation crisis – either by ending up at a crowded animal shelter or taking away another worthy animal's chance at finding a good home. Spaying and neutering end the tragic cycle of animal homelessness at its source, and sterilising even one animal can have a huge impact. Spaying one female dog or cat can prevent the births of thousands of animals who would have otherwise been born only to end up on the streets, in the hands of abusive people or
in animal shelters. Veterinarians across the country offer low-cost desexing surgeries to make it affordable for everyone to have this life-saving procedure done for their animal companions. The nearest low-cost clinics can be located by visiting the website of the National Desexing Network at ndn.org.au. For more information, please contact the RSPCA on: 08 9209 9300. By always desexing animal companions and adopting from animal shelters instead of buying from breeders or pet stores, everyone can help us reach the day when every dog and cat has a loving home.

The National Breast Cancer Foundation also recognised the work of the club with a certificate commending the efforts in raising over $2300 for breast cancer research earlier this year.
We would like to thank our sponsors for their support during the year, Lake Grace Sportsman's Club, Across The Lake Wines, Bill Walker, Sab's Fish & Chips, Darren & Melissa Clifford and Lakes Building Maintenance. Also to our 'Aiding & Abreasting' sponsors, Neu-Tech Auto Electrics, Lake Grace Plaza IGA, Elders, K & C Kirk, M & P Cameron and P & M Cameron. Without the support of all of these people and businesses we would find it much harder to be able to continue to support causes such as the NBCF and to contribute to community projects such as the new kitchen we purchased for the shed. The club was also supported in the form of a McDonalds Junior Sports Trust Grant which enabled us to purchase training aids for our junior team.
All in all another successful year, with a premiership, new players who hopefully will continue next season, new umpires and some great hockey in the mix.
Next year the club will celebrate 80 years of hockey coinciding with the Lake Grace Centenary.

Lake Grace Pingrup Netball Club The netball season has finally come to a close for 2010 with our club coming away, once again, as Junior C ha m p i o n s b e a t i n g O n g e r up b y 4 5 points! CONGRATULATIONS to all the junior players who played this year, and to Maria and Briana our coaching team extraordinaire. Both Maria and Briana dedicate a massive amount of time and effort to ensure our juniors not only play competitively but also play fairly and have fun. Not an easy job with over 20 junior players. Special congratulations to Beth Curtin who was awarded Grand final Fairest and Best. Congratulations and commiserations to our A Grade side who made it to the preliminary final but unfortunately were beaten by Jerry by only 3 points. Kristie Stanton returned to netball this year saying that she wouldn't be able to commit and probably wouldn't play as well as in the past. She not only played every game but, once again, was awarded Ongerup Netball Association Fairest and Best at the ONA vote count. Well Done Kristie. You are an inspirational player! It is not awarded to someone who is deemed a 'good' player but a 'good' club person. This award was presented to Briana McWhirter. She is a fantastic club person; and another club will be lucky to have her next year. Well Done Briana. This year our committee and parent body have worked
tirelessly to ensure our club ran efficiently throughout the season. As the saying goes 'many hands make light work'. Thankyou to everyone who contributed to this season, whether it be as a player, coach or umpire, working the canteen, providing afternoon tea, sweeping the courts or any of the other numerous jobs needed to be done. Lake Grace/Pingrup Junior Hockey September 4th V‘s Borden
Grand Final Day!!
Instructions from Coach Curtin were to score within the first 2 minutes. It looked like Lake Grace couldn‘t do much wrong. We had all the play and all pushing up in attack. The first goal, a sharp hit into goals from the outer edge of the circle by Liam, just met the two minute deadline. Borden took their hit from the centre and off in attack we went again. About half way through the first half, our playing up high defeated us. Borden had a run away ball and they were onto it, they had support and didn‘t take long to fling the ball past our goalie. 1 all. Borden picked up and the play shifted back to the middle of the field. An intercepted pass by Borden was the beginning of their second goal, again they had support in the circle and soon it was 1-2. Lake Grace dropped their heads a little going into half time and appeared glad for the break. The message out was to settle down, play our own game, and a full back to drop back to help out our goalie. The team feeling a little more positive went back out to attack. Again Borden applied pressure and soon scored their third goal, 1-3. For a couple of minutes our team looked rattled and beat. To their credit this wasn‘t to be for long, and again they began fighting for the ball. And with just over six minutes left Liam stole the ball took it into the circle and with a beautiful ―tomahawk‖ which most were sure was going out. (I know I was looking across the other side of goals to see if our wing was in position). Suddenly we were back in business 2-3. Our spirits lifted and the game improved; with the timer in my hand I watched the clock tick by, just over a minute to go and the ball moving down the right towards our goals – ever so slowly. It kept going over the sideline, each time we were frantic to get the ball back into play. With strong determination from our full backs Angus and Carrie and all team members pushing up hard, Lake Grace was in control for the final stages of the game. Their efforts were rewarded 23 seconds from the final whistle with a goal by Brooke (beautifully positioned on the post), coming from a hard shot across goals by Beth, causing the ball to travel up Brooke‘s stick then dropping dead in front in order for her to pop it into goals. The crowd went wild!! Three all. We had a game on our hands. There was enough time for the kids to quickly set up for the centre pass when the whistle blew. We were ready for time on. We were pumped! Huge credit to Borden‘s goalie as our team was firing balls at him during the time on however unable to convert. The game ended in a draw after time on. I know the kids didn‘t really feel like they won the premiership but with 6 minutes to go and 2 goals down it‘s definitely a win in our eyes. And Borden deserved to share it with us. A unique way to win a premiership. Final Score 3-3 Goal scorers Liam 2, Brooke 1
Best on Field: Liam Baker Top Effort: Peter Downey.
THE WINDUP As Borden‘s windup wasn‘t until 11thof Sept we were able to bring home our 2010 shield and medals to hand out. Congratulations to you all it was a great example that you never give up till you hear that final whistle. This year we lose the majority of our players with our year 7‘s moving on. You each had a special place on the team and it was great to witness your improvement over the year. All the best to each of you, it‘s great you‘ve all had the opportunity to play hockey. There‘s some great talent out there. With the Yr 7‘s going I‘m really looking forward to seeing Azella (our only yr 6) and the yr 5‘s on the field. They have been so very patient and sat on the sidelines as our interchange. It was difficult to put them on the field knowing they would only be on for short periods of time so am really looking forward to seeing them play more complete games. It will be difficult though as we won‘t have the ability to pick and choose the game according to the opposition and you‘ll all have to play against the stronger older sides. Have been watching you all develop over the last two years so am sure you‘ll have a great year in 2011. Trophy Winners: Runner up Fairest and Best: Carrie Taylor. Sponsored by J & W O‘Neill - Carrie only began playing hockey last year and didn‘t take long to pick up the skills required. This year Carrie spent a fair bit of time in the full back line. She has become a very solid and reliable player; it‘s very inspiring to watch Carrie stand up against some talented opposition in our association, and winning the ball from them. Carrie has been a great team player and willing to learn at training. Carrie was selected for regional trials this year. Fairest and Best: Mitchell Smith. Sponsored by Lake Grace Cabinet Makers - Mitchell also received highest votes in our club in the association votes. Mitchell is a stand out player in most games, he is fair and always there to back up and support team players. He can read the play well, act on it and win the ball. Awesome year Mitchell. Well done. Coaches Award: Juanita O’Neill. Sponsored by E & T Naisbitt - Juanita is a very versatile position player and has developed a passion for the game. Whatever position she is placed, she knows where to be. She also has very dynamic defending skills. Juanita was selected for regional trials Development Award: Angus Hunt. Sponsored by B & J Watson – Angus has had a terrific year with a great deal of improvement. We‘ve put him down into defense where he is a very strong and effective player, yet while

watching the play from the back line can be moved forward to make a difference up front.
Encouragement Awards: 2 additional awards were given out this year sponsored by Genni Curtin. Anna Hunt – Anna is always happy. She is happy to go on the field, play whatever position, play it well, and always happy to come off the field. Anna is a great positional player and often very effective. Anna is a delight to coach and I am looking forward to watching her hockey skills develop next year with more game time. Ben Watson – Ben originally helped out last year in the goalie position and is always keen to fill this position even if he doesn‘t see the ball. He has developed throughout the year and played goalie for the finals. Our second semi final will always be remembered when he played a tremendous game under constant pressure stopping balls high and low making it exciting to watch. Thankyou’s Consult Ag – Steve and Genni generously donate the weekly awards and lollies. Not to forget the generous helpings of Milo on a cold Tuesday arvo.
Christine Altham – Christine is our weekly umpire and rarely misses a game and is always around for extra support. Thank you for your time and effort. Linda Hunt – Linda our Association Junior co-odinator
giving her time organising events such as State Championships. Yvette Downey – Yvette is also a tireless worker, always around to support and organize us! As well as trophies etc. Brodie Cameron – Brodie gave up his Tuesday afternoons to warm up and work with the week‘s goalie and assist wherever required during training. Janine Watson – Assisting Gen wherever needed and a great support in training, picking the team positions each week, as well as calling the interchange for the games. Genni Curtin – our hockey minded coach lives to watch exciting games of hockey. Genni gave up her Tuesdays and much more time as she dwelled on previous games, possible team positions, trainings and much much more. Gen is retiring as Coach this year and will be missed.

FORCE Get sexy muscle tone and fat-loss...don’t be afraid to step
it up to see optimum results. Utilising multiple muscle groups to achieve maximum re-sults all over your body. Monday’s 5.45pm & Wednesdays 6.00am ARC caters for all levels of fitness, discuss this further with your ARC Health & Fitness Instructor
MYTHBUSTING! STRENGTH TRAINING MAKES WOMEN GET ―BIG‖ Women‘s body chemistry is completely different than her male counterparts. Women don‘t naturally produce enough testosterone to get ‗big‘. When women lift heavier weights, the result is sexy muscle tone and more fat-loss.
LIGHT WEIGHTS & HIGH REPS TONE MUSCLES Low weight, high volume training doesn‘t require a lot of energy, it only stimulates the smallest of your muscle fibres. Your muscles won‘t change shape and you won‘t burn as many calories as you would with heavier weights. To change the shape of your muscles, you need to stimulate as much muscle fibre as possible. To get maximum results, lift more weight while performing compound (multijoint) exercises. The more muscle fibre you stimulate, the more energy required resulting in more calories burned! Shin Ohtake / Max Workouts
When an ARC Instructor says to you ‗increase your weights‘ or choose ‗heavier weights‘ this means choosing a weight that is challenging for you. You should choose a load that is harder for you but you can safely lift. ARC caters for all levels of fitness, discuss this further with your ARC Health & Fitness Instructor

Lake Grace / Pingrup Junior Netball The Lake Grace Pingrup Junior Netball Club created history this season by becoming the first junior team from the club to go through the season undefeated and claim the Premiership since the ONA began holding junior finals.
After last year's stumble in the Grand Final against Boxwood Hills after winning every game during the season, the girls were determined not to let history repeat itself - blasting their way to a 14 - 3 goal lead at the first change that was never challenged.
With Juanita and Kathleen driving the centre court play, Beth and Elle combining well in goals and Bianca, Carrie and Jordy providing solid defence, by half time the girls had opened up an unbeatable 28-6 goal lead.
It was then time for Azella and Marcia to tag with Bianca and Jordy to continue the assault, and by the final change the lead was 42-7 - with the girls realizing that a Premiership was only 15 minutes - and a few netball "moments" away!
To Ongerup's credit they continued to put the pressure on Lake Grace and fought the game out right to the final whistle, with the Lake Grace girls not letting their guard down until the game - and the flag - was well and truly won with the scoreboard reading 56 - 11.
As the whistle sounded and the umpire raised her hand the victory was met with both delight and relief - delight at bagging their fourth premiership in six years, and relief at making amends for last year's disappointment.
For the six year seven girls - Beth, Juanita, Carrie, Jordy, Elle and Kathleen - it marked the end of an era as their junior netball years together came to an end, making their victory even more memorable.
Goal Shooter Beth Curtin had even more reason to celebrate when she was named "Fairest and Best in the Grand Final."
At the combined Junior Sports Wind-up the following day the girls were recognized for their outstanding season.
Award winners were: Coach's Award - Juanita O'Neill Most Improved - Bianca Kennedy Development Award - Beth Curtin Outstanding Service Award - Briana McWhirter Services to Umpiring - Helen McWhirter

Jamie Bell is Lake Grace‘s new Junior Golf Champion. Played over two weekends, the junior championship is an 18 hole event, with the front nine being played the first weekend and the back nine on the second weekend. Jamie played great golf to be this year‘s Lake Grace Junior Champion and thoroughly deserved her win. Runner-up was Brendan Bell. The B Grade juniors played a ten hole event. Winning the B Grade was Keirnan Harvey, while runner-up was Izzy Seward. Most Improved for the season was Molly Owen, the Incentive Award went to Emily Parker with the Runner up going to Adam Hunt. The Coaches Award went to Kendrick Harvey.
